    Three years later, and I picked up the Focus G case on sale for my first build in 15 years. This is the best walkthrough for the build I've seen. Turning the fan shroud 90-degrees is a great trick. I missed the part about the PSU going fan-down, so now I get to re-route all my power cables. My fault, completely.

    I pretty much ordered this build (just with a cheaper gpu, psu and no m.2) I'm so excited! I'm glad there is a tutorial on the parts I wanted because this is the most amount of money I've spent on a DIY thing so far. Thanks for such an easy tutorial! I have no idea what I'm doing and this will help so much.

    Funny how i'm watching all these build videos and everything works perfectly fine when everyone else builds a PC, but when i try and save money for 6 months and finally get to build one myself, the PSU comes broken, system runs but nothing shows up and i don't know what to do and i am very sad

      I always check reviews on Amazon and Newegg if the 4 and 5 star reviews don't add up to 90% I become very cautious. I also read the 1 star reviews but take these with a grain of salt as a lot of time its operator error. Also check CZcams for reviews and build videos.

Anyway, got this case because I wanted to go old school and have an optical drive and perhaps even a floppy drive mounted hehe. No one asked for it but here are some of the parts I'll be using for my build: XPG Core reactor Gold 850W, MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk, Ryzen 7 5800X cooled by the massive Noctua NH D-15 chromax.black (Could not get the 9 5900X btw or I'd gone with that). 32 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX, Samsung 970 Evo Plus M.2. Asus blu ray writer. Retro floppy drive. Like I said, no GPU, yet.... Thanks for the tip about the HD Audio cable guys =)

    Whenever resorting to stock HSF for any reason (typically DXing bad RAM), I always, always, but always, scrape that pre-applied crap off and use a good TIM. (Noctua NT-H1 is well worth $7 and is not conductive = newbie friendly). Just do it. I had the FX-8350 stock crap rip my CPU out of its locked socket (I got insanely lucky there were no damaged pins). Had to pry it off with a screwdriver (sweating bullets is an understatement). Do not learn this lesson the hard way. You don't have to.

      If you have 2 extra ports on your motherboard then you put them there. My MSI board has 2 system fan ports as well as the one for the CPU fan. If you don't have 2 available fan ports then you must get a cheap adapter that allows you to power them through the old school Molex connector from your PSU.

    I have this case. But mine came with no led fans. If I were to buy some rgb Corsair fans how well will they show through the dust mech. At the front.

    It’s a shame that there’s a flimsy looking acrylic side window. The case would look a lot nicer with just a steel panel.

    Would you have to remove the whole motherboard to replace the cpu heatsink? It's just it seems to screw onto something on the back of the motherboard which I guess would just drop off if you unscrewed the heatsink before removing the motherboard.

    Would you say to get this case or the nzxt s340? They're both about the same price right now, but the nzxt is being marked down so it was really like a $70 case to start. I don't care about looks..just which one has better cable management and airflow. Thoughts?

    Could you not have rotated the fan on the cpu cooler without removing the shroud? Seems like if you wanted to replace the fan without uninstalling the cooler, you should be able to do that by unscrewing the four screws at the top.

    • @jackfolloway3354
      @jackfolloway3354 Před 6 lety +1

      I think you could do it, at least with a smaller screwdriver; however, you have to angle in sharply with a normal size screw driver like we used, so it was easier for us to just remove it first to avoid damaging the screws. Also, we've noticed that while this version of the cooler was secured with those two screws underneath, newer kits we've used in later builds did not, making it even easier to just pop the shroud off quickly.

      ellsworth1956 not for the ryzen 5 cpus. The b350s are more than enough to get the best out of them.

    • @ellsworth1956
      @ellsworth1956 Před 7 lety

      Depends on how high you want to clock them. You usually can get a little more clock out of an X370 than a B350. In the end it probably doesn't make that much deference.

    • @jackfolloway3354

      For most builds, all you really need is a standard Phillips-head screwdriver. A ratcheting screwdriver like we use with extra bits for smaller screws (like for M.2 drives) can be helpful as well. (there's a link to the screwdriver we use in the description above)
