    ABOUT US:
Mormon Stories Podcast is the longest-running and most successful podcast in Mormonism - hosted by Dr. John Dehlin. At Mormon Stories we explore, celebrate, and challenge Mormon culture through in-depth stories told by members and former members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We also occasionally interview scholars, authors, LDS apologists, and other professionals. Our overall mission is to: 1) Facilitate informed consent amongst LDS Church members, investigators, and non-members regarding Mormon history, doctrine, and theology, 2) Support Mormons (and members of other high-demand religions) who are experiencing a religious faith crisis, and 3) Promote healing, growth and community for those who choose to leave the LDS Church or other high demand religions.
Mormon Stories Podcast is a product of the Open Stories Foundation - a 501c3 non-profit dedicated to supporting Mormons in religious transition.

If I could just slide an example in here. Leviticus 25 44-46 lays out laws for owning people as property for their entire life. Like slavery. And I just cant imagine a law so immoral coming from a good god.

    • @bodyofhope
      @bodyofhope Před rokem +25

@@youtubespag don't forget the context. God had just freed the Hebrews from Egypt. They knew nothing but slavery. There was no word for employer, employee. The words for worker was slave. The word for employer was master.
In Exodus and Leviticus, there were guidelines written bc ppl were treating one another horribly. Just as badly as they had been treated while they had been enslaved-- bc it's ALL THEY KNEW.
These were new guidelines to follow, to get them out of their former patterns.
Leviticus was meant for the Hebrews coming out of generations of brutal slavery- to break old habits, and build new rules for a new society.
The 10 Commandments was God's law.
But the rest is what the Hebrews kept asking for. More and more more guidelines bc they wanted ongoing clarification from God on right/wrong in their new society.
God is a good God who, while frustrated with them, continued to answer all of their most nit picky questions.
Now we have Christ, the one God sent so we don't have to follow this little guideline, that little rule, sacrifice this, honor this and that holy day perfectly, etc.
      Christ covers these for us.
      God is a good God.
Everything good we know and feel in this world is from God.

    • @youtubespag
      @youtubespag Před rokem +8

@@bodyofhope nah you're mistaking the context. Dont try and call someone you own as property for life and beat an employee. It's a slave. And that's what I'm talking about. Did you know that's what the bible says? Your interpretation is pretty unbiblical bro. Where did it say moses asked god for slaves? I only ask because I've been looking at this context for a while and it's weird to get called out for missing made-up context.
I think it's weird to say jesus told us that we dont have to follow the old rules when he specifically said that those rules were not fulfilled yet, not until heaven and earth no longer exist, then its fulfilled. Since that's not the case his words in matthew indicate the law still stands.

When I was 10 , two elders, sent by my cousin, came to our house. Very nice, charming young men. They started teaching us about Mormonism. I remembered that they said the church didn't allow black people to join because they were a "cursed" race. That was mid 60s. Later that was changed. My father didn't buy into their system ,and neither did I -even at 10. My mom was going tbe babtised but changed her mind at the last moment, thankfully. when I was older,I read some of the book of Mormon. I could not believe that it was God's holy scripture, and I found it ridiculous. Not belittling Mormon people, some are good folks. One thing that bothered me was my close friend was out of work and really down on her luck. Her landlord was a Mormon bishop and he sent some women from the church to talk to her and "help"her and her kids, But only if they joined the church and be babtised. She told them that if they were really christian that it wouldn't matter. They promptly left and never came back.

When I first arrived in my mission area I was asked if I had an ongoing relationship. I laughed and said I had broken up with all of them before I left. It was a bit of a joke because I wasn't seriously dating anyone, but they wanted to be more serious with me. I didn't want that stress so I just let all the guys I was seeing know. Well, my mission presidents wife asked me two more times if I was seeing anyone. I had sudden health problems ( I ended up having to go home and haven't recovered five years later) and it was a big deal for some reason that I had mentioned a guy I had liked to my sister training leader. They thought I was lying about being in a relationship. She even went as far as to CALL MY MOM and ask if had a secret relationship I wasn't telling them about. It made the stress of having to deal with a horrible mystery illness that much worse. There were even rumors in the mission that I went home to get married. I don't have a good explanation as to why they thought this. I didn't talk to any guy more than I needed to and didn't even have a mission crush. Worst part she had a restraining order against him (btw he had 6 kids with the mom most under the age of 6) but because it was church grounds they didn’t imply it in there and allowed him in the same building which was very small for a church worst part (I was 9 when this came out) I would be standing next to her and he would come up stand next to me (she’s standing the other side of me) or across from her and start talking to someone either next to her or across from us and no one did anything but put all the blame on her for how she dressed and acted like she was the one in the wrong for saying anything like it was all her fault and tbh for years after you could see how much this affected her like she had to leave the church which she didn’t want to but she couldn’t deal with him harnessing her basically in the church but because it was on “church” grounds that made it okay apparently. Sorry this still bothers me for people who say they accept everyone and don’t judge man they judged her they made the entire situation way worse by how they treated her how they didn’t do anything and then try to tell me I was the one in the wrong when I had a go at him about harassing her and how he was a rapist at 13 only time I’ve ever sworn in a church Ngl so yer and this was in Ireland it’s messed up

Soon after she chose to move to my moms since she needed to get away. I wouldn’t have believed her if it hadn’t been for the fact that the young mens sister was sa’ing me at that time. We had twin cousins who sa’d her too and it just went down the line. When you keep things so hush-hush and make people feel deep shame for being taken advantage of by an entire community if people you don’t recover. She is still an addict and is stuck in a cycle of abusing herself. My father was also physically, mentally, and emotionally abusive to us. When he got remarried to our step mom contributed by tacking on some deep narc/co-dependent issues. My whole family on both sides is actually really messed up but Mormonism them keeps them “modest.”

      Actually it's the 12th century....
When it comes down to a lot of the world's conflicts right now everything Originates from the 12th century.
12 centuries when marriage became a concept.
12th century is when the Moore's society invaded Sicily creating the animosity between Europe and Africa.
The 12th century is when Africa forced Greeks to worship black gods.
The 12th century is when what you can describe as the race to create the world church started.
The 12th century is when the days of the week were created.
And even that was done in a level of disrespect.
Because technically Wednesday is the 1st day translates into odin day.
Sunday is the 4th day of the week meaning the day in which the Lord created light.
Tuesday Tuesday is the son of odin I forget his name but he also represents the sky and war.
And the purpose for that is to basically tell everybody whether they believe in God or not if they didn't Practice the Catholic denomination And they worship the Lord on any other day than Sunday then they would be worshipping a false God.
The 12th century is when christians separated themselves from the Catholic's.
I mean really if you want to know all the truths and get past all the lies when it comes down to church governments and world order just look at the 12th century it answers all your questions.

You know, I really think this all depends on where you're living. I grew up in a family of LDS members, however my immediate family wasn't. My mom smoked, my grandma and a couple aunts smoked, they gambled and drank occasionally. But then there were the other Aunts and Uncles that were extremely active in the church. They never treated anyone differently. Even my highly active Uncle and Aunt put in a space heater in their garage at Christmas for the family that smoked. Oh, and I decided to go to church on and off when I was between 25 and 35. Different churches. My boyfriend and I had a son, lived together and was welcomed and treated like family at the 1st church. We ended up getting married by the Bishop. There's more to the story that contradicts how people expect them to behave. Anyway, we moved to Washington and decided to try out the local church. It was awesome. The Elders and Sisters were AMAZING!!! OH! And guess what, I always wore dress pants to church. Dresses make me uncomfortable. The ladies just said, "Hey! You might start a new trend!" I always said, " The Lord doesn't mind what I wear as long as it's appropriate. He cares that I actually made it." I'd probably have continued to go, except my social and anxiety disorder finally got too bad. I'm still working on it.

I have my own stories that I keep to myself. This channel is dedicated to tearing down the faith by assuming that the people represent the faith. Any issues I’ve had within the church has nothing to do with my faith. It has everything to do with assholes. Every religion on the planet, throughout the history of time, has had to deal with assholes within the physical body of the church.
As a returned missionary I find it hard to believe that a mission president would say such a thing.
I have also noticed people come on this channel that are not actual members of the church. They are members of the FLDS or other organizations. People that have never been active in the church after being baptized are reaching the age of 12. This is what you call an anti-Mormon channel.

@@apollo8688 I think it's a matter of semantics to substitute the word faith in there. I'm really tired of the it's the people that are flawed and not the church or the gospel or the faith. All of those things were created by people and are also flawed. I have no trouble believing that a mission president said that. And again, if any adult asks my kids about masturbation, I would call the police and try to press perversion charges. And bishops do this to kids all the time. And I don't think that people commenting on here are FLDS. They're ex- LDS saying why they left honestly. Naturally the church will declare this is an anti-LDS channel. But since you brought it up, all you gotta do is look at the FLDS people and how they're living to see what Joseph Smith originally had in mind. Plural marriage only stopped so that Utah could become a state abiding by the laws of the United States, correct?. And many fled to Mexico at the time, such as the family of Mitt Romney. And one of the head guys from the FLDS is in jail for child rape and trafficking. Nuf said. Too much said. You know all this is true. Therefore the church isn't. In fact, one way to tell it is a cult is everyone having to repeat that it's true. Have you ever attended the Sunday services in any other faith? You never hear that. They don't have to testify that their faith is the one true faith because it's not even as issue. Never heard that until I heard people giving their testimonies in this "faith". And "faith", by the way, means believing something which cannot be proven true. If you know something is true, that by definition is NOT what faith is.

Also, I am not representing the church when I say this is an anti-LDS channel. All they do on this channel is spread misinformation and lies. They tell a little bit of truth and then they throwing something that’s absolutely bullshit. Further, the LFLDS does not represent have the church used to be. They take some of the principles, and then make up their own. The LDS church claims to have representation from Jesus Christ himself. You don’t believe that? fine. I don’t need your belief to be secure in my faith. “Nuff said”. I grew up as a southern Baptist. I’ve been to Catholic services. I have attended Seventh-day Adventists services. I’ve shared my faith and other’s have shared with me. I’m not overly concerned with other people being in another religion. It’s not what you believe. It’s that you believe. And you allow others that same privilege. And you hear everything in every religion church services. There are differences of course.
People who push an anti-religion agenda, like you are, are typically people who have committed sins, feel guilty about it, but refused to repent. Is that you? Or are you one of those people who have never fit in and feel the need to have revenge against God? Does not matter. it does not matter because I do not need your permission to have my faith. I don’t have to prove it to you. I don’t have to show it to you. I have to live by it. And I do that for me.
This is an anti-Mormon channel. There are anti-Mormon books. There are anti-Mormon videos. You can call it a cult all you want. It doesn’t change anything. You’re a sad person. And I’m sad for you.

As a former Mission Secretary I will say that if these young people want to invent or find a reason to excuse their own problems, they will. And they tend to fit in with like minded people. I know allot about the behind the scenes of a Mission. Two years worth. And I have friends who used to be that girl. A Mission President try’s to save a Missionary. Not for the Mission’s sake, but for the Missionary’s sake. And he understands the hormones of a 19 or 20 year old male. So whether her statement is true or not, I leave it in the hands of the Mission President who loves each Missionary like they were his own children. I wish her well.

You should pray and ask the Lord if it is right in His eyes. The Holy Spirit of God knows how to speak to our hearts.

It's because men can control themselves, we have to control ourselves to help them keep them selves in check.

Sounds like that young man was struggling and trying to do better. Doesn’t sound like she felt bad about blatantly breaking mission rules.
