It was Germany, the land of inventors and engineers, you could see every kind machines there.
I know the feeling. Couple years back I was riding an electric unicycle all over the place, people would stare at me and was like, what the heck is that. So many people were like, WHOA, that dude is riding on one wheel, wtf... some people today still stare and be like, whoa...
In India people still look at women driving a car with an awe in lot of places. This shows that gender inequality existed since forever in societies across the world.

I will give one correction. The automobile was not “her husband’s invention”. Bertha was co-inventor. She was very involved with developing ideas and making parts for the automobile. In fact, during that trip she invented brake pads.

Damn a 12 hr drive at like 9mph lol I bet it was fun and challenging and exhilarating but I bet after like a couple hours into driving this thing became a real pain in the ass (literally) haha it wasn’t a smooth ride and like having to change gears all the time. No wonder they spent 3 days visiting her mother they needed a break from the machine.
It was 19th century. And Bertha and Carl the were keen bicyclers. They could ride dozens of miles a day.
Her husband was heart broken after the machine failed to run long distance in his initial test runs...
She believed in him more than anything...she had faith that his invention would take her and the kids to their destination...
She set out on the journey without his knowledge and proved his hard work paid off..
And Benz patented his machine shortly after, kicking off the age of automobiles
