This would be cool if you had two starter's, one on each side of the engine. A battery powered starter for normal operations and the spring starter encase your battery fails or is otherwise drained...
@@illbeyourmonster3591 how many 6bt and 4bt Cummins are still around ? That’s a silly question these engines are in everything from equipment to passenger vehicles boats and farm tractors gen sets and water pumps there is millions of mechanical engines still working all over the world not just Cummins tons of manufacturers
inertia starter is more like the old tank and aircraft starters, heavy fly wheel cranked up to speed you can hear the gears whine , then a manual clutch lever is used to engage the spinning flywheel to drive the engine . this is a spring driven starter.
This a spring starter, basically priming a spring loaded mechanism that starts the motor, inertia starters are large flywheels that have to be spun up very fast, and engaging the momentum of the flywheel to the motor to start it
Use a (large) cordless drill not an impact which beats up parts. The smart choice would be bend a very large speed handle or conventional crank rather than using a ratchet which is awkward.
Hello - I am also looking for a spring starter for my 6BT Cummins. Is there any way to get a pic or two of the mounting flange for your starter there, and or maybe the part # and vendor where those can be purchased from? Thanks very much, - Sam

doesn't the spring spin the gear that engages the flywheel........and starts up .....in other words giving the flywheel the inertia to start the engine....
Nah it's called Norwegian steam starter he's Norwegian and younger man full of piss and vinegar and steam all that cranking sounds like me at 72 in the morning ha ha I wish this you g man great life and happiness c r teehee Cherokee farmer
that is a spring type starter, not inertia.
That's an inertial starter:

I was about to say thank you
@@claudehebert3131 Inertial starters ONLY USE FLYWHEEL ENERGY STORAGE. They can be hand cranked or electric.
But "inertia" = "flywheel" PERIOD.
Agree. This title is incorrect
You should change a title to Spring starter.
Spring starter. Inertia starter is spinning up a flywheel.
This would be cool if you had two starter's, one on each side of the engine. A battery powered starter for normal operations and the spring starter encase your battery fails or is otherwise drained...
You can! Most SAE bellhousings used on big trucks and equipment have a place for a starter on both sides.
A spring starter and an air starter would last forever.
I was just thinking the same thing.
@@xc8487that would be something.
Very smooth 👍
If it were an inertia starter, something would spin up a flywheel, and the inertia of the same would power the starting sequence of the main engine.
EMP proof. No electricity needed whatsoever.
Except for every diesel above that of the small 1 and 2 cylinders made in the last 20 or more years has a computer controlling it now.
@@illbeyourmonster3591 a 6bt needs no electricity to run with a mechanical fuel shut off
@@rcjackscx10 And how many of them still exist and have zero electronics today?

best shtf starter ever.. need me a 6bt asap
That is impressive.
A very nice video.
Very Good!
Looks like a lot of work.
Excelente
I need this on my boat as a backup..
Very nice presentation 👌👍👍🇺🇸
Does it only work in spring? ;-)
Ou can rotate the back so you can rotate teething all the way round.just remove the bolts and indexit as needed
Sciocchezze, spring starter
Are you sure that this is an air starter? Looks more like a springs starter??
How much roughly for starter?
where can you buy such a starter and for how much?
Yes, this is a spring starter not inertia
That sucks it’s not an inertial starter those are so cool
man I need one of these for when my battery dies. I think I'll carry an impact gun or something though.
impact gun is a bad idea.. these starters are expensive and don't like hammering.
Use a (large) cordless drill not an impact which beats up parts. The smart choice would be bend a very large speed handle or conventional crank rather than using a ratchet which is awkward.
Same as a Honda express !!
Could that kind of starter still be bought today
yes

Milwaukee impact
Show me that working in cold weather
That's a spring starter
The engine doesn't show the slightest vibration. Is it a fake?
By the way, that's not an inertia starter.
It's not fake. Look at the belt pulley on the right side of the engine. I guess the lake of vibration is because it it mounted solid to concrete.
Never seen any cummins engine start without plenty cranking
