Just a reminder! This is mainly based off expected performance, or simply not playing enough. I think all of these guys can be good again. Just might take some time đ
If Corbin can find his release point again, I can see him come close to his â19 form The velo is still there
Cabrera plans to retire in 2023, but only after he gets his last paycheck from the Tigers.
@@patw3611 He deserves to after how underpaid he was for the first half of his career. He has earned every single dollar the Tigers are paying him.
Fuzzy you should do a video on the best contracts!
Trevor Bauer was found not guilty fuzzy. Dodgers are just stupid for still not letting him play, along with the mlb for suspending him when he was found not guilty
Strasburg and Corbin are both current Nats and Rendon a former nat. That nationals 2019 roster sold their souls for that World Series
And we'd do it again
Ya thanks for the memories, loved â€it, that was a World Series run for the ages.
If Corbin can find his former release point and sync up his mechanics I can see him come close to his â19 form The velo is still there
Well at least we got to see something special from a team that hasnât gotten much.
@Dawgustine And? Everyone played under the same circumstances. Not sure what your point is.
Rays be like: Can't be on this list if you don't spend any money.
The Mets are still paying Robinson Cano....... and Bobby Bonilla.
Fuzzy out here killin me in the intro "That dude stole money" đ€Ł
4:34 Read that Berrios contract line, it almost looks like it reads "1 years" because the 7 is hardly distinguishable from the 1. Maybe reconsider using that font in the future over its digits.
Iâll try to find a better one. Thanks for watching đ„
I am expecting a berrios bounce back to his career norms, I know berrios is mad disappointed with last season cause he's been training all offseason, can't wait to see him pitch again
i think somethings wrong with him. He took a lower average salary than some of the starters are making and he quickly took a deal for 17 mil when he probably could have made over 20 was a odd sign to me. I think the Jays signed it and didn't worry about medicals. If something happens to him this year health wise I wouldn't be surprised.
What I hate the most about Stanton is that heâs not an everyday OF. Everybody trembles when he goes out there because heâs made of out glass. And he makes Ohtani to the Bronx improbable
Yanks buy Players instead of Building teams. Imagine Judges numbers last year with a smidge of consistency behind/before him in batting order. Not 2-3 guys who are HOMERUN OR NOTHING Players a lot of the season. Without Judge last year they win 85-89 games
Boohoo no one feels bad for the Yankees
Among that list, Nick and Jose are my candidates to return to somewhat of a norm. I'm pessimistic on Yelich as continuous back injuries are usually career killers imo.
Canât put Cabrera on this list. I read somewhere that Tigers owner wanted to make sure Miggy finished his career with Detroit. To us, itâs bad but to the owner, itâs what he wanted from Miggy.
Doesnt Change the fact itâs a bad contract
Dang Christian Yelich got 215 dollars in 9 years for his contract! 3:14
Dude....the angels just throw money out like it's nothing and still can't get higher than 3rd place.
I was so surprised Chris Davis wasnât on this list but I think itâs because he isnât playing anymore
Honorable mention: Eric Hosmer
Should be 1
how? he's barely making league minimum.
@@bevrosity uhh no đ Padres still paying whatâs left of his contract. Boston on the other hand are paying league minimum.
@@alfredosuarez3128 oh, they are? that is pretty terrible then lol
@@alfredosuarez3128 and isn't he with the cubs now?
Ozuna definitely shouldâve been higher than an honorable mention. Heâs not a starter and heâs still making more money than any of the other Braves outfielders that are starting rn
Does Ozuna still play for the braves or is he suspended? I havenât keep up with baseball much and just recently started trying to get back into it
35 hr, 91 rbi
Hey Fuzzy, in fairness to Miggy's contract he is getting paid now for his performance before the contract. When he was drastically underpaid for the performance he delivered. The two contracts cancel each other out, one extremely team friendly contract and one player friendly contract.
Thatâs a fair point and something thatâs often overlooked
@@charliep123 It is actually the way the economics of baseball were supposed to work, and did until analytics came into determining salaries. The deal the players made with the owners was for 6 years the team can take advantage of the player with low salaries that make the owner a ton of money. In exchange, that owner will overpay the player in the final years of the deal before retirement.
Chris Davis deserves at least a honorable mention. He has been the reason the Orioles canât get a big market free agent
Been a while since youâve put up an interesting video ! More of these please Fuzzy đđœđđœ
"Whos Pierce Johnson" hes been injured but when hes Healthy hes actually good. (Padre bull pen pitcher since you didnt know Fuzzy)
Fuzzy your so awesome Iâve been a fan for a long time thanks for the shoutout on the livestream
wooooooo new fuzzy video super excited for mlb the show content on the second channel and super excited for recaps keep up your amazing content!!!!
Thank you for not mentioning Votto on this list. His contract is just fine, and anyone who says otherwise still think Phil and the rest of the Reds owners are wanting to spend money.
Votto is being paid while underperforminh for the overperforming he did through the rest of his career. Hopefully he has a resurgence for 2023.
Now...we can mention Akiyama and Moustakas though. đ€Ł
Almost put him in honorable mentions, but I couldnât. Hoping his shoulder is back to normal! đ„
@@FuzzyFromYT Dude was playing Chess, and winning, during this off-season. I canât wait to see him checkmate opposing pitchers.
@@TheGAdams005 We could but those players arenât active or on the roster so they arenât being paid anymore. I donât think that was the context of this video.
Yeap
The guy has talent, but Tatis Jr. could be on this list as well if the best ability is availability.
14 year/$340M deal and he gets busted for PEDs as well as suffers a significant shoulder injury. The track record of MLB players who returned to form after a torn labrum is kind of sobering.
Best MLB CZcamsr
Great vid Fuzzy!
Bad is bad, but a slight help for the Yankees in Stanton's salary is that the Marlins are still responsible for a chunk of it.
Donât get me wrong Stanton was not a good contract but still he has had 30 + homers in almost all his seasons so he has still been great
Also great vid
Agreed, he has some injury problems but like you said he's good for a consistent 30+ homers and isn't even that awful in left field either when they decide to run him out there.
By that metric, Eugenio Suarez should be getting paid $30+M haha I appreciate the comment!
Being a Nats fan. I've been disappointed every year since they won the WS. First Rendon left and then scherzer got traded with an extra stab in the gut they traded Trea Turner. And then......Corbin has been disappointing and I've been heartbroken that Strasburg has been so injured. Wahhhh
No to Giancarlo Stanton because when you have a guy that is barely healthy almost hitting 40 bombs a season without even playing 120 means that, that player is extremely good and possibly even Mike Trout good with that sample size.
He hits them versus the bad Baltimore Orioles and lousy teams when the Yankees are up by 6. When it counts hes an easy out.
You should have Chris Davis from the Orioles and Jason Heyward from the Cubs on this list.
I like the MLB Network Showcase music in the background đ„đ„đ„
I see the pattern of those 2019 nationals players. Majority of them are total busts, expect Trea Turner and eventually Juan Soto.
Wow a lot of pitchers on this list tanked after the sticky stuff ban, could it be related?
Fuzzy did you know that Berrios was 14 and 2 last year at the Rogers centre and in the 2 games he lost the Jays scored 2 runs in one game and none in the other... I can only hope he is that good this year!
Once again a other w keep it up fuzzy
I agree with all of these great video
Sometimes the 1st year the #'s are down due to pressing to go above & beyond. Carlos Beltran, Bobby Bonilla & others are examples of that & the 2nd time around the #'s did get back to normal.
Would you rather be overpaid or underrated tho
The thing abt Miggy is no one expected the last 3 years to realistically be solid seasons. Through the first 5 season he had an .814 OPS and the power was still kind of there considering Comerica Park is absolutely cavernous. All the contracts given out this year will eventually go this way. Baez could make a case for this list next year considering his ridiculous whif rate and ~.650 OPS.
But no talks about when players perform good in the arbitration years and are underpaid, players like pujols and cabera deserve that money in their later years when they were underpaid in their primes/youth years
Damn Fuzzy we're almost birthday buddies too. Mine is July 20th
You forget the Mouse. I know Reds paip him out the door, but Jesus that was money down the toilet.
Strasberg situation is even worse when you factor in his most recent injury which required surgery - thoracic outlet syndrome - obliterates the effectiveness of former great pitchers. Just look at Matt Harveyâs nosedive after TOS. Very gloomy about his chances to regain form. Maybe heâll buck the trend, who knows, but bad track record
i knew nick was gonna be here and it hurts every time.
Castellanos played hurt last year so I hope he's healthy for this season
Just imagine had Stanton played some 140 or 150 games what them numbers would have look like next to Judge dang........
Rendon is a nightmare
At least Jo Adell is due this year to figure out MLB pitching. Team control through 2027.
Iâm surprised the Jason Heyward contract wasnât here
Wonder how Raphael Devers will do with no one to protect him in the lineup.RS- From 2018 WS penthouse champs to the outhouse in 5 yrs.
I would imagine many of the larger, long-term contracts become boondoggles on a cost/performance basis, and it's inherent to their design. GMs and owners are effectively saying, "You were great from the ages of 23-30. So we will now offer you even more money to lock you down from ages 31-40."
And sure, there are many players who continue to produce well into their late 30s. But they will still be in decline in the final couple of years of these deals. I guess the philosophy is more like, "Mookie? Trey? We're not dumb, we know you both will be quite over the hill in 2032 when we're still paying you two a combined $60 million. So for that kind of money then, get us a couple of rings from 2022 to 2025, mm-kay?" In the end, a blockbuster MLB contract is actually a solid exercise in the present and future values of annuities.
Nice to see Ellsbury on your list. I'm a Red Sox guy, and he was my favorite player on that '13 team, but when he left, I was one of the few people I know who wasn't totally heartbroken. The way I saw it: we had him for pretty cheap, and he contributed on two rings, but I didn't see any version of him that was worth the $20+ million a year he wanted. Would have preferred to lose him via trade than by free agency, but them's the breaks in this biz.
Stanton contract isnât bad, Yankees arenât paying the full thing, he produces when heâs on the field, heâs amazing in the postseason. I believe Marlins are paying about 15-20%,
Yelich had a scary knee injury few years ago not sure if it affected his offense đ„
More like sign stealing got cracked down on and him and belli fell off the map
As a nationals fan. I am truly sad
Weâre in complete disarray rn đ
And yet Iâm sure Fuzzy was one of those guys back in 2019 imploring the Nats to pay Strasburg
Jason heyward contract with Cubs was terrible as well. Just not quite as high a price as these.
From a Dodgers fan, Thank you Rendon for not wanting the "Hollywood Lifestyle"...
Anthony Rendon aka Tony Two Bags can make or break the Halos season
Down year from Stanton in terms of his play and missing a ton of games, but at least he showed up for the playoffs like he always does.
Staton is a goat lol đ 30 + HR and he doesnât even play a full season.
Every postseason he always does what heâs supposed to: hit HR. He does exactly what the Yankees pay him for. They shouldnât have allowed him to hit in the HR derby lol
Staton is an ENIGMA.
For sure! But thatâs like saying Schwarber is worth $30+M đ
@@FuzzyFromYT Stanton ainât at all like Schwarber. He strikes out way less.
Unlucky for Dodgers on Bauer
Chris Davis even if heâs not playing in 2022, should almost be required to be on this list
Nice to see Jason Heyward off this list and off the Cubs
Patrick Corbin went downhill when the Nationals started the rebuild.
I looked up Strasburgâs injury and Iâm not a doctor but itâs possible he could be done, in 2019 he put all together and nobody can take that away from him, Rendon had an unlucky year with injuries, when heâs healthy heâs a guy you want in the lineup when the chipâs are down.
He stated in an interview last year he was in so much pain he could only sleep in one position on his back and doing normal tasks is very painful. I donât think he ever pitches again. I just hope he feels better.
Shocked that Madbum isnt on here. Dropped by the dbacks in April hasn't played since. His career is effectively over. And that contract. He's still owed 35 Million over 2 years đ
I would not say Rusney stole money. He was just not given the opportunity to play, he broke records in the minors and they kept him there.
Jacoby was a great player but did get seriously hurt so cool it on him.
People expect yelich to carry the Brewers. That is a lot of pressure
Me and fuzzy have the same birthday wow. đ
I sincerely disagree with Miguel Cabrera. He was a much better player last year making the transition to full time DH, and the contract has only 1 year left and Miggy is retiring. Iâd do that contract again in a heartbeat, itâs not like the tigers attract big money players anyway.
I really think Castellanos crumbled under the expectations of having to basically lead the phillies lineup once harper went down and he never got comfortable at the plate. Not making an excuse for his poor play, but think he will definitely bounce back in his second year
You gotta be fair to Chris sale he went down in 2021 and his only start in 22 he took a line drive off a finger in the beginning of the game. Luck is just not on his side
Giancarlo isn't overpaid he's doing exactly what he's being paid to do hit home runs hard. He is injured a lot but he still manages to have excellent production regardless
All three of those marlins outfielders didn't pan out, hilarious.
Rendon Rendon Rendon jeez
Nobody here mentioned Trevor Bauer? Although his contract is not related to underperformance nor injury, it literally is the worst contract. 32 mil down the drain per season.
Yea. The worst. Crazy not to play him and release. But doubt anyone is interested in him
Chris Davis is still on the books for the Orioles
Funny how the very famous Marlins OF that they traded away in the Jeter era are on this list
Almost all these contracts are perfect examples of why you don't sign players beyond 5 years.
I dont think miggy's contract is that bad. Sure his level of play has dipped, but they are rebuidling and he didnt keep them from signing any impact players. And the only reason any of us followed the tigers in the last 3 years was when he was close to 3000 hits.
W vid
These kind of lists make me wish teams could get out of contracts if players donât live up to expectations.
Stanton is getting 22M for 2023... I think it is better than others that dont produce....
Noti gang
Josh Donaldsonâs contract hurts the yanks more than stantonâs
Yeah. Big time and Stantonâs contract has money from the Marlins too. Itâs not bad at all aav wise on the Yankees side.
Marcell ozuna would be a good honorable mention
My birthday today!
đ§đ§đ§đ§đ§
"The best ability, is availability" - Fuzzy đŻ
I was waiting for Aaron Hicks.
A lot of these bad contracts are values now if they returned to form.
Damn 3 players on the 2019 Nationals team lol
I wanted to comment before event watching âmarcel Ozuna better be on here lolâ
Rendon is the #1 worst for me because it's a year longer left lol
Let's go, fellow birthday buddy's
Fuzzy!!
what about Hosmer?
Stanton was such a horrible trade. Good player but what he brought is what the Yankees already had. Couldâve saved the money and signed Harper or Machado
The Cardinals agreed with the Marlins on trading for Stanton but he had a no trade clause and went to the Yankees
@@daryldixon3685 Yea he only would agree to a trade from one the 4 teams that were in the AL and NL championship series the season prior which were the Yankees, Astros, Dodgers and Cubs
Im surprised Tatis isnt on this list, especially after you put Kris Bryant on here
I'd have to say the most overpaid stiffs in no order are baez lindor Machado sale.
Also aaron judge to be out months when the team sucks and needs you after you signed that monster deal for a toenail injury is ridiculous.
Hi fuzzy
Iâm surprised that joey votto is not on this list
How can you put Stanton on this list and not Trout. In a three year span Trout missed almost 250 games. If you're gonna say availability is important that should count for Trout also. I would've also brought up Harper but he played in World Series.
