Raster comparison again with Boss, AEON and Thunder Lasers

  • Sorry i forgot to check over run distances on the other two machines but you can see the difference in the video. Since doing the video i found the backlash settings were not high enough for the speeds they here traveling on the AEON and Thunder. The boss had the opposite problem as it would fire too late and that i could not get worked out by changing backlash settings. Non the less this test was all about Speed from start to finish of the design. More will come on the adjusting of backlash for high speeds.

Any chance you'd be willing to share the flag file? I'd like to compare timing, etc.on my 40 watt epilog and my old 100 watt universal. (I've been considering getting a thunder and have been really curious to see how it would compare to the 2 machines I already own.

Great video. We are looking to purchase a laser this month and I am wondering on your thoughts as an actual owner of both the boss and thunder lasers? I have a $6k budget and have been looking at both brands. We are engraving on memorials both round and flat and small cuts. I am looking at 40 to 60 watt machines. Any insight into brands and your new roller rotary is appreciated!

Boss is ok but thunder and AEON are a set ahead. Better quality parrs and built machine. Boss is one step away from being a regular Red and Black china laser. JMO. Around 6k would get you an AEON MIRA 7 or a Thunder NOVA 24 like mine. Either of them you wont be disappointed with.

Boss with hybrids or servo motors is significantly faster acceleration speeds compared to Aeon or Thunder. Of course support is always reliable. I had a Trotec and an older Universal and Boss is way better bang for your buck - cutting in particular.
Thunder and Aeon maybe had a leg to stand on when this vid was made but recent changes make Boss a superior machine.

Personally I prefer the thunder, but the aeon is also a good choice. Both are the best for your money imo for usa sold lower budget lasers.

What do you like about the thunder? In this video you said that Aeon ha;d some favorite features? I really do appreciate your insight I was going to buy boss and I saw one of your videos and changed my mind.I really do appreciate your videos.

They both have pro and con. Aeon has good hiwin rails but hard to service, thunder has roller guide rails, easy to work on and clean. Aeon has self contained package, thunder does not. Aeon has wifi but iffy thunder does not. Aeon is clean and elegant, more for store (clean area) use. Thunder is industrial shop type machine. Both have same specs on speed and quality. Aeon is a little less heavy duty looking and built, thunder is made for very stout and and very well built. Aeon had wire issues(not sure if fixed yet) thunder is so very tiddy, neat and very well labeled for ease of maintenance. Thech support on both are good but thunder has a plethora of knowledge base and people very well versed to help with issues and also have live chats every Thursday with the people that run the support to help with issues or answer questions.
Shew, I think I covered it all. Again they both are the top end of their category can't see you going wrong either way, but my money is with thunder any day..... you made a good choice not going with a boss. They have good support but in the end it is just a rebranded giwieke (sp) machine and not made by boss where as Aeon and thunder are made buy the companies they are branded with.
      Hope this helps

Good job on the video - you can see the big difference in speed between the Boss and AEON. What was the problem with the AEON during the test? BTW - did all the machines have the same wattage for their tube? If so, what was the laser - a 100 watt?

    • @JERCustomDesignsInc
      @JERCustomDesignsInc  Před 4 lety

Thanks. The problem with the AEON was it was going so fast the laser could not keep up so I had the adjust the backlash settings to get the timing right. Boss is 150, aeon is 100 and thunder is 65 watts. Aeon tube is bad and that's why it was engraving so weak. This was a live test with no adjustments so as you can tell from the video I was just as confused when I saw the issue...lol

@@JERCustomDesignsInc You compare apples to pears and peaches ... in my opinion, every engraver does what it knows how to do, you must find the right settings for each one. I have an AEON with rf tube 30 watt...and it works perfect! PS....If we exclude the speed of work, Aeon it goes the same as the Epilog or Trotec...

Your title is misleading, Apples to old oranges comparison really. Comparison of a boss with low acceleration settings with an aeon with a shot tube/incorrect setup and a thunder laser with half the watts. While you had original settings, the core work of a laser operator is tunning settings to get the most out of the machine for each material and job combination. With such a title, if there are such significant flaws in your video you have a duty to not release and re record the video to provide an accurate representation.

@@JERCustomDesignsInc Not much to explain. If you had titled your video on discussing the effect that tuning, settings, maintenance has on laser performance it would have been a pretty well done video. Titling as a back to back comparison was simply misleading.

@@ryanbellyt they were back to back shot all withing about 30min or so(nothing was edited in or out) and all stock settings running the exact same file. It was shot a second time because people got butt hurt because they didn't like the artwork that was used. That is the only reason, so again your assumptions are wrong. Nothing was being hidden or altered at all .....
I have nothing to gain from any of this.
