Shaq, Steve Smith, Chris Webber comment on the Blazers-Lakers (2000) and Kings-Lakers (2002) WCF

- Steve Smith comments on the Lakers "cheating" and calling out David Stern, and Chris Webber bringing up the "rumors" of the conspiracy theories. Although both series were widely been known for being controversial, it's rare that you get to hear the players/coaches/management publicly speak out about it. The NBA (David Stern and Stu Jackson) have been known to fine players a minimum of $25,000 for any public comment directed against league officials, and the NBA has a lot of say of what could be said on their television broadcasting partners.

Shaq calls them the 'Queens'... He knows deep down the Kings beat them. The Lakers had a lot of help by the league and the refs to be a 'dynasty'.
man
Shaq and I needed no help beating anybody. We were the best players in the league back then. #ShaqAndMamba
+Kobe Bryant Your dreaming , 2002 fool
+mikem987 If you go after Shaq, Kobe and the L.A. Lakers for having the NBA and the referees to 'help' them be a dynasty, then how come you don't go after other NBA dynasties like Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls who dominated the 1990s? Do you also have a beef with Magic Johnson and Larry Bird owning the 1980s? What about Red Auerbach, Bob Cousy, Bill Russell and legendary Boston Celtics dynasty where they won 11 titles in a 13-year span from 1957-1969? Finally, are George Mikan's five NBA titles with the Lakers tainted as well?
***** L.A. Lakers earned it. They turned the distractions like the referees off and kept playing basketball to make more plays in order to win games en route to championships.
Sure, there was controversies surrounding Game 6 with the free throw disparity in the fourth quarter and also a controversial made trey from Samaki Walker before halftime in Game 4 that was called good, but despite all that, the Sacramento Kings still had a 204-185 edge in free throw attempts in the entire 2002 Western Conference Finals series and still had chances to win either Games 4, 6 and 7, but didn't do it.
Game 4: Even with Walker's controversial trey called good before halftime, the Kings still blew a 24-point lead and failed to get one rebound on the final play of the game where Vlade Divac slapped the ball to Robert Horry for the game-winning three-pointer.
Game 6: There is going to be free throws no matter what and teams still have to make free throws. Yes, the Lakers had 40 including 27 in the controversial fourth quarter in Game 6, but they still have the make the most of them.
Game 7: The Kings still had chances to grab a late lead in the fourth quarter and in overtime. Peja airballed his trey attempt with the Kings down by one, 99-98 with 20 seconds left. Doug Christie had a miserable shooting Game 7 including his brick in OT with the Kings down by two, 108-106 with 22 second left.
In all, the Lakers earned it fair and square while the Kings rue their wasted chances.
C-Webb's face at 1:05 says it all. Shaq is trying to talk about this game in any other context than the fixed officiating. Webber looks like he wants to punch shaq.
And Webber would’ve DIED!😂
Shaq everytime they play kings or blazers they have to do everything including talking to stern to fix the game. Im a laker fan but im not proud of 2002.
You're not a Lakers fan Lol
Against the Blazers in 2000 it might have been even more blatant, game 7 down 15 before the rigging starts and carries them to victory.
At least you admit it. So many Lakers fans deny what was so obvious in 2002. No one talks about that Blazers series either but that was questionable. Another team that got screwed was the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Philly. Stern wanted his David vs. Goliath matchup of Iverson vs. Shaq in the Finals so that great Bucks team got hosed.
Turtle Island LAC there is no proof that the sixers bucks series was rigged. AI was mvp and put 30+ a game in the playoffs. You could argue AI was the biggest marketing star in the NBA after Jordan left and the league was pushing for him and Shaq rather than a boring personality less Ray Allen and the bucks.
100%
2002 Lakers Big 3
Kobe, Shaq, and Tim Donaghy
Tim Donaghy was not a referee in the 2002 Lakers Kings series.
Tells you how brainwashed you clowns are.
Jose Carranza Donaghy admitted to the game being rigged though.
It's not a rumour C Webb, it's all 100% true. The refs cheated you and the Kings from a championship in 2002. Man if I ever meet Kobe or Shaq I will straight up say it to their faces.
Well you can scratch kobe from your list lol
@@baroncross3060 😂😂😂lol
@@baroncross3060 ayo chill 😭🤣
@@bhjayy9384 I forgot that I made that comment lol.
The kings lost game 1 and 7 at home. Had more free throws shot in game 5 just like the lakers did in game 6 and the kings went to the line in the series more than the lakers so who gives a rats ass about Sacramento
1:04 C.Webb's face of death.
lmfao for real "you couldn't guard me, thats why you had the refs"
Look at the anger on Steve Smith and Webber's faces. They know that David Stern fixed the series vs. the Blazers and Kings. Shaq talking trash about a series the Referees were ordered to help the Lakers brought out some old emotions. Both of those teams were good enough to take down the Lakers. Tim Donaghy already admitted those series were fixed as well as documents obtained by the FBI.
Bullsfan2008DR The officiating was horrible those series and plus the league didn’t want a team called the Jailblazers winning a championship
@@anthonytobias5459 no way the blazers got cheated. They missed 15 straight fg in the 4th. Stop.
@@robbereal1982 How does that remove the help that refs gave the Lakers? The Lakers were going to lose without the refs helping them. No matter how many shots the Blazers missed.
@@alexfarias5156 what help? Did the refs help Portland miss 15 straight shots? Did the refs help scottie pippens illegal defense most of the series? Just stop. They lost.
@@robbereal1982 The Blazers could've missed a 100 field goals but the refs rigged the game. The refs were making bad calls favoring the Lakers sending them to the line while putting the Blazers players in foul trouble. How's that hard to understand? Stop rigging games. Let the best team win. Stop trying to excuse the refs winning the game for the Lakers.
1:04 to see how C-Webb really feels about Shaq.
My god you're an angry individual.
lo Shaq calling Sacramento the Queens and now he owns part of the the team
ironic isn't it? lol
'They didn't call no foul on that play?'--Barkley.
“Us just slapping the hell outta you?”
“But it’d be fun for us, stop being selfish Ernie!” 🤣🤣🤣 Chuck is a gold mine
These series are the reason why I rank the Spurs slightly higher than the Lakers post Jordan. Lakers still ahead of Miami though.
I agree. And Tim Duncan is the best player post-Jordan, with Shaq #2 and Lebron #3.
"& luckily... We uhhh...... Did that" lmfao😂
Lakers '00 & '02 = Heat '12
Blazers '00 & Kings '02 = Thunder '12
When we lost in game 5 against heat in finals, they was flopping like shit bro, then I cried
Blazers weren't cheated...foh.
Bearded MGTOW v1 who?
imKraVe- nigga what harden was flopping every play foh with that shit.
niqidos Lebitch always needed help, he’s a joke compared to Jordan. Refs saved his ass in 2013 from losing to the Spurs and karma caught up to him in 2014 when San Antonio ass raped him in the finals. Dirk shat on him. I do give him respect though for busting his ass against the Warriors. He should only have like one ring max.
When Dick Bavetta is your 6th man you always have an advantage.
Not the lakers fault that Portland couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in that 4th quarter.
Not portlands fault that the series was fixed
13 straight misses- no excuses for Portland here
@@mariobryant8803 No excuse for the refs helping the Lakers. Win fair.
As a die hard Blazers fan. This series made me cry!!! I was an emotional wreck for weeks. I personally thought we got cheated by the Refs in that game 7. Yes we choked a little but the refs were only helping the Lakers.
Tyler Moss Dude you guys couldn't make a bucket in the 4th quarter, you guys made that happen to yourselves.
You weren't cheated. Quit being in denial. This wasn't even a foul. Shaq went straight up and plus the game was out of reach already from that choke job you guys had.
Weren't you guys up by like 15 or 16 in the last quarter???? Come on now. I agree that the ref should've made that call against Shaq but to say that Portland was cheated is ridiculous. They were up by double digits and basically allowed LA to make s comeback and win.
A*
They did get cheated, there were many 3 second violations on O'Neal that were not called, the last 2 fouls on Sabonis, and many other things.
how bout the kobe elbow on mike bibby and the foul was on bibby
Worst officiated game of all time
What Shaq should say was against those teams they needed to cheat. The looks on C Webb and Steve Smith's faces tell at all: They got screwed by the refs. Blazers should have beat the Lakers and the Kings should have gotten the Lakers in 02.
Shaq went straight up against Steve Smith. Plus the game for the Blazers was out of reach already. Even if Smith would have made 2 FT's. The Blazers would keep intentionally fouling. Come on now. The Blazers blew that game as well. Go look back at it. Game 6 of 2002 I'll give you though. That's it.
Coming from a bulls fan? LOL
When michael jordan was the first to get the superstar treatment from the referees and the league.
How many games were fixed for jordan's bulls for ratings?
The rigging started before the Lakers took the lead against the Blazers. Shaq would foul and they would call it on Sabonis to get him fouled out because he was shutting Shaq down, and they called many other phantom fouls or offensive fouls as defensive fouls, and when Blazers had the ball no calls or get called for an offensive foul when it should have been a defensive foul. The rigging was real there too.
Jordan definitely got calls but later in his career, as Bulls fan I'll admit. But it is offset by the physical poundings Jordan endured over the years. The refs gave Jordan some calls but they didn't manipulate the outcome of a series the way they did for the Lakers. IT was so obvious, that's probably why Stern kept the Lakers from getting CP3, to compensate for his favoritism toward big market teams. The Pistons and the Knicks were brutal to Jordan. Isiah and Rodman would take shots at his legs while he was in middair. Back then physical play made great ratings so the league let Jordan and the Bulls get pounded.
Jose Carranza don’t even compare that joke of a Lakers dynasty to Michael and the Bulls. Bulls had to endure so much shit to get to the finals. The one year they shouldn’t have won it was 93 I would argue knicks got screwed or even the Suns series in the finals was a bit unlucky with class going the Bulls way. This lakers team was a joke only reason they started a lakers dynasty was for ratings after Jordan left the league, they knew people were not going to watch a Blazers pacers finals or a Nets Kings finals hence why the league wanted the Lakers in the finals with their most marketed star at the time Shaq featured in it. David Stern knew what he was doing. Lakers shouldn’t have that many rings, karma was a bitch to Stern in 2004 when the Pistons absolutely smacked them in the finals.
shaq knows the fixed was in. he should be embarrassed how the lakers won
His ring with the Heat was even more embarrassing too 😂
I still count the Kings champions still
You mean Portland?
+Tyler Moss No.
division100 You can’t really argue for Portland since that 2000 finals would have been stacked with pacers and blazers both equally balanced but def had Kong’s won in 2002 there’s no way they would have lost to a joke of a nets team . East was a joke in the early 2000s AI, Kidd, and Pierce literally carried that joke of a conference.
Steve called them out on it.
Thats how u build a dinasty in todays sports with all those thousand of millions of dollars wondering around.. get 2 superstars in a big market team and TV broadcast will set that team as the next decade dinasty (all that money needs to pay off)...
It’s funny to always see those who believe the Blazzers were cheated. They chocked. The Kings has some bad calls against them but they still chocked in game 4 so they could’ve been up 3-1 then win game 5 (which they did)
Lee Jackson blazers choked but the Kong’s were clearly cheated. Even Donaghy confirmed this
@@V3rnSqwd5611Kings*
blatant cheating
Smh The Kings should’ve won the Finals in ‘02
Can we give the trophies to Portland and Sac now? Everybody knows by now this was rigged both years ---
Jason Heilman agreed
and the heat cheated in 2012...as much as i love lebron
he fouled durant and westbrook at the end of game 2 to win that
Fouling is not cheating. Maybe you think it was rigged in general, Of course, they won in 5 games not 7 anyway
That's completely different than what this is. This is allegations of a rigged game. LeBron barely touched Durant but fine if you want to call it a foul whatever but it still would have been a tie game Heat ball last shot.
The document claimed that Donaghy told federal agents that in order to increase
television ratings and ticket sales, "top executives of the NBA sought to manipulate games using referees". I

Donaghy didn't even ref that fucking series
+eternalending just cause he didn't ref that game he still was prob calling the shots. but you are right and I am wrong.:)
I've been thinking that the league was never rigging these games over the years but that the referees were favoring certain teams on certain nights so that these playoff series can extend as long as possible.
I mean think about it. As messed up as it sounds for the teams if you're a referee you want to make money, and I'm guessing referees don't get paid during the off season, they don't have endorsement deals or anything so once that final buzzer of the finals blazes they have to wait until the pre season begins or do something else to make money.
They probably get paid even more money during these playoff games which would convince me even more why they'd pull crap like this to keep getting money in their pockets throughout the postseasons.
Reggie had me cracking up... you were really worried about Corliss Williamson? And Steve and Chris just salty AF....
Snapper Jones said it best about game 7 when he was covering it, Portland should've played better and been closer. With the kings, no one really knows but they still had a chance to win game 7 and they couldn't make a free throw if the hoop was magnetic...
mah boy Cwebb about to cry!! don't worry brother you and your kings are the 2002 NBA champs in my eyes! no disrespect to the nets though.
The Lakers were The NBA cash cows..Small market teams like portland and sacramento would not generate the same ratings or commercial ..thats when stern stepped in and made sure to squeeze every drop out of the Blazers & Kings series before the kill shot ..to me thats when the NBA became the WWF
poor guy he is so passionate about the fact that he was fouled. Shaquille even agreed but you can tell that there is nothing that Steve's a little disappointed because there is nothing to do about it now almost years later.
Lakers still would have won that game. Regardless if Smith hit 2 FT's. Blazers would just keep intentionally fouling. Blazers blew that game anyways. They deserved to lose. Missed like 13 or more consecutive shots that provided LAL to comeback.
Yeah, and the fact that the defensive anchors in Scottie Pippen and Arvydas Sabonis were fouled out also hurt the Blazers and Steve Smith even more. Apparently Sabonis 5th and 6th foul were very questionable. The Blazers have the worst luck in the NBA
What about vs Kings you obviously are biased, talking like you never played any sport. In sports like in life you will always have situations that will hunt you whole life if only one thing was on my side one call.
I don’t think he really cares since he won a chip with San Antonio is 2003 and beat Shaqs bitch ass that year in the 2003 wcsf. So he got his redemption in the long run.
Michael Eyob if anything C Webb is the one that should be salty since he’s ringless.
Love how the lakers get blamed for cheating as if they have anything to do with what the refs call. Like when Jordan gets all th calls his way cause he’s Jordan. All the popular franchises and superstars got the treatment in crunch time
The NBA is rigged, they cheated the Blazers and Kings. Hate David Stern.
and the 2000 blazers series was washy
the lakers just balled on the offensive end in the 4th quarter
don't forget the c's cheating in '08 the heat in '06 and the heat in 2012
Lakers3423 and the Lakers in 2010. 21 free throws in the 4th.
InTheCommision ' cavs Celtics series was rigged in ecsf, that game 7 was terrible to watch. Boston was great in regular season but they struggled immensely in playoffs had to play maximum number of games Lebron and a shitty cavs squad definitely irked should have beaten them ECSF.
They cheated for the Lakers!
That play of Steve Smith - he pushed off on Glen Rice first before making contact with Shaq- should’ve been an offensive foul. Look at it.
1:20 shaq said bitch i think (watch his mouth)
no one cares

Blazers & Kings def beat & were better than Lakers. Smh! LAKERS 3PEAT WAS TRASH! Shaq basically has 2 rings
Blazers fans and Lakers haters quit crying about Game 7 of the '00 series. Portland choked and that wasn't a foul on Shaq.
I'm okay with Kings fans being upset with Game 6 of the '02 series though. But still think they should get over it to an extent.
Get over it hu? Bet you wouldn't say that if the game would have gone the other way lmao. Nice to see you love cheaters so much.
Fidel Duran I would get over it. It's old news. Nothing is going to change it. It's done and in the books.
Lakers = 01-02 Western Conference/NBA Champions
Just like when Lakers hater's always say, ''We're not talking about the past! We're talking about right now!'' in terms of SOME Lakers fans bringing up how much they were successful back in the day...
+HipHopR&BLover Haha yeah like I said, YOUR team benefited from it so OF COURSE you say GET OVER IT. Don't lie to me you know you would be crying. And don't be a liar they are not the 2002 WFC. That title belongs to the Kings. They were way better. But because your beloved Lakers are from LA they got the refs to help them win. You can call them 2002 champs all you want hon, but believe me outside of your fanbase no one respects you "laker lovers" for it. I'm not a hater of the Lakers. But I can't stand cheaters. Don't try to defend that, I don't want to hear any more lies.
Fidel Duran I would get over it because we have multiple titles to polish other than 1. It wouldn't matter to me. If it makes you feel better, have the title. It's yours...lol.
+HipHopR&BLover Jon lol not a king's fan at all but thanks. I see you keep missing my point but that's cool.... Ignorance is bliss they say.... Have a wonerful night! ;)
No wonder why the Sacramento Kings are the Chicago Cubs of the NBA: they're still hopping mad about the 2002 Western Conference Finals series to this day.
lmfao yeah cause it was stolen from under their noses and the nba is so rigged, you can't even talk about it ... you just have to accept it
James Brown Pedowitz report disagrees.
All the Sacramento Kings had to do is to make a few more plays that leads them to a win either Games 4, 6 and 7 of the 2002 WCF series and they didn't do it.
Kings and Cubs are completely different. The NBA robbed the Kings cold blooded in front of everyone
Cubs has always been trash
That’s cuz NBA sucks the Lakers dicks.
And Laker fans and player still brag about a rigged 3-peat to this day
listen im the biggest 2002 kings fan of all time BUT
they lost a fair game 7 on their home floor cuz of missed free throws
ye there shouldnt have been a game 7 but there was and the kings shouldve made their free throws
The fact there shouldn't have been a game 7 negates your point.
It's funny coming from a bulls fan.
With those free throws they could have overcome the refs and the Lakers. Take away the refs and the free throws don't matter. They shouldn't have had a game 7 anyway. If I was made to start an auto race an hour late, and blew a tire in the lead at the finish line and narrowly lost because of it; would you say the tire made me lose or would you rightly conclude that the unfair condition was the biggest factor?
you Kings fans who whine about Game 6 of the 2002 WCF are bunch of hypocrite it ok That you guy won Game 5 because Webber Offensive foul but not ok That the Lakers won game 6 you Kings fan are hypocrite for real if game 6 was rigged then game 5 was rigged for the Kings so i don't want to hear no more whining out of you kings fans mouth because yal are hypocrite
