For a German, white kid, from a mid size town growing up in the 90s it wasn't even in the realm of dreams to become a superstar in the NBA one day. For people who don't know, Chuck and Dirk have a really good relationship.
Dirk's 41 actually comes from Chuck's 14. In Dallas, Dirk wanted the 14 coz he liked Chuck's game so much, he couldn't get it coz Robert Pack had that jersey number in Dallas, so he took the next best thing, 41.
I'm happy for Dirk. I loved that he won at least one championship, and against the Heatles. It was very satisfying to see his old and slow Dallas team give Miami a beating. Lol.

The Mavs championship season was the first year I really got into basketball and I still remember how epic it was to follow the Mavericks adventures in the playoffs. We're gonna miss his kindness and elegance on and off the court even more than his game. He has shown to all of us what being a person is like, before anything else. Because the game of basketball is not just about the rings and the dunks, it's about the people who loves it and get saved by it.
Thank you Dirk for all the lessons you taught us, it's been so much fun watching you play.

The best part about this was that they spoke mostly about Dirk’s character rather than his basketball persona. That speaks volumes. Dirk is one of the greatest ever and it’s a shame he’s overlooked.

I’ve never been happier to grow up watching a single player for my team than I have been to watch Dirk my whole life. Has anybody ever said a bad thing about him. Humble, kind, funny, talented. He’s a true inspiration and someone kids should be looking up to as how to be a great athlete but also a great human. Dirk is the GOAT in Dallas.

Even if you want to say it's his decision well it's also holding the team back with how long it takes him to make it up and down the court.
