  • Detailed review and test of the 2024 Honda CR-V RS hybrid, including pricing, features, fuel economy test, interior and more.
Honda has topped its vastly improved CR-V with a flagship hybrid grade which seeks to inject both sporty RS excitement and frugal fuel consumption into this practical family vehicle.
Priced at $59,900 driveaway, the unusually named e-HEV RS isn’t cheap but with its electric-centric powertrain, a renewed focus on build quality and premium materials it might just be worth the cash.
Time will tell as to whether the new CR-V breed has what it takes to surpass the segment-leading Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Contributor Dylan Campbell investigates.

I am new CRV RS Hybrid owner, and have been driving this model for nearly 3 months. It does have some odds as most people on the internet complaint: high price tag, no HUD & 360 camera, rear seat blind, noisy engine, and so on. But they don’t stop me loving this car: very smooth and comfortable driving experience, spacious rear seat space and cargo space, good fuel economy (I am able to achieve the Honda’s claim combined 5.5L/100km) with mixed driving. Good interior tech without second thinking and classy interior look, low maintenance cost to compensate the higher purchase price tag. For me, the ecvt engine noise is acceptable and even the engine kicks in during city or highway driving, it still feel very smooth and refine. Yes, lots of rivals have better refined engine, cheaper price and flashy interior look, but no car is perfect, some rivals have smoother driving but much higher maintenance cost and fuel consumption figures, or maybe outdated interior and so on. Give it a test drive see if you like the car or not, if yes, ignore all the internet noises and enjoy your car and make the most out of it.

x-trail e power hybrid is also a good choice, although some car journalists point out the floaty driving experience and higher fuel consumption, and keep in mind the service cost is high and requires 95 fuel. I will recommend to check out Mitsubishi PHEV ES with similar price range, also worth checking out Haval H6 Hybrid for a lot less money with full spec and some wow factors for top trim, depends on your brand preference.

I believe "RS" badge on Honda cars means "Road Sailing" which is the comfort model. Japanese cars (Honda, Toyota, etc) are all about efficiency and large touchscreens lack tactile feel and distract the driver having to look for virtual buttons or adjust the eyes from large backlit screen to dark roads. Same with traditional shifter where shifting is a memorized sequence compared to looking down to find the right button.

Still, fondly remember the first Honda CRV with a party table in the boot, though it was underpowered with 2-litre engine, it was good to drive. Honda Dealers were ripping off charging very high service costs in those days. No one makes hybrids like the Toyota does. My 2019 Hybrid Camry is a pleasure to drive with good handling dynamics, a genuine five-seater with a big boot, excellent ride quality with little road noise due to low friction tyres, and a steady fuel saving of 5L/100 km (5.4 claimed). It is a pity that certain Toyota models are not available for sale in Australia but Hybrid Camry is an excellent choice for a family car. Almost forgot to mention the resale value of Toyota hybrids due to their great service network, low maintenance costs, and overall reliability.

Tri Zone AC, heated front and rear seats, tilting reverse side mirrors, heated steering wheel, interior finish far more premium looking, 12 inch digital screens, 20 inch wheels, double glazed front windows which block out almost all the engine noise, dedicated EV mode that I get between 3.5km-4km of driving at normal suburban road speeds and city only driving fuel economy of 6.5l/100km and i could go on. I just bought new 2024 cr-v hybrid touring. Worst hybrid suv in the all lot. it should not call hybrids suv. You have no idea about vehicle or got tons of money to promote this price of shit. RAV 4 is far better than Crv hybrids. you save nothing with honda hybrids system. it's a ripped off from Honda

Did you really buy it? I don’t think so. The Crv hybrid is much more better than RAV4 !
