I think a large part of Andrew’s genius is that he instinctively understands these things. And this is, I think, how he grew his business. He probably spends next to nothing on advertising. For instance, his Ford dump truck has his name and profession on the door, but no phone number for interested parties to call. Were I him, I’d add the number. My bosses always picked up small, easy jobs (paving driveways) from people seeing the phone number. It costs little, can return a lot and is a mark of pride.

Hey Andrew I noticed your machine has what sounds like a hydraulic whine, I have an ex150 that did the same. In the hydraulic tank there is a mesh filter that clogs up, reach in there with your hand a pull it out, it has a handle on it you can grab. mine was dirty, after I cleaned it the machine got quiet and had so much more power.

Yeah this dude has mad skills on his equipment. I don’t operate for a living but I occasionally rent equipment to do work around my homestead. Most of the technique I use while operating comes from watching Andrew.
Hay or straw over seed does numerous things. It shades the new growth, prevents sunburn and drying. Retains moisture and keeps birds from the seeds and deer from the new growth. When the grass is 3-4" tall cut it with a mulching mower and the hay or straw becomes plant food. I use straw over all patch jobs. Great work Andrew!

Hi Andrew, I have 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor and I think you should get traction tires for your ford. If I'm not mistaken those are turf tires. My tractor tires are oversized, Goodyear 13.6 X 28. Previous owner welded a band into the rims to widen them. Also it surprises me that good pickup traction tires with deep and beefy lugs (Firestone, BF Goodrich etc.) seem to have gone the way of the dodo bird too. You need those deep lug tires for your pickups as you are constantly loading your tires up with soft mud and turning them into racing slicks that are useless for pulling even with 4 wheel drive. From 1970 to not that long ago I always had those old style traction tires on all my 50's Chev flat deck trucks. I think they were always called snow tires back them. Cliff

While other vlogers scramble for content you are going about your business, but taking the time to set every shot, to be action packed...moving...or something interesting. You enhance your footage even more with overall views of the job sight with drone footage to give the viewer a better overall prospective of the sight. Combining that with excellent editing you come out with a always fascinating perspective of what would otherwise be common mundane activities. If you most always work solo, you must spend a lot of time setting up camera shots. The route-en viewer has no idea hoe much time and effort goes into your vlogs. This is just another example of a masterful job well done. No wonder your channel is growing by leaps and bounds. Well done Andrew.....well done.
Still too many trees too close to house for my taste. They don't seem to have very large or deep roots so any coulf fall in good wind. Neat job and very tidy finishing up.
Agreed about your camera work. Makes it interesting pulling in more than one camera getting different angles. Notice U don't do it all the time undoubtedly because of the degree of planing an extra hands you may use. Which leads to the drone work,...Question: when you pull away from the quarry with your full load who's driving the truck and who's flying the bird? Figured it could be as easy as someone riding shotgun And flying the drone. Still and all it's quite a trick and I think it's cool that you don't explain away all your exceptional movie making skills. In the Northeast we tend to have shallow topsoil sitting on bedrock so this isn't uncommon. If given a chance, trees will definitely try to establish deeper roots

only thing I saw that could get him in trouble is not having a chain around the arm of the excavator. Here its a $300 fine if it doesn't cause property damage or $1000 if it does. Id rather spend the $70 on a chain and binder than pay more money cause of something stupid

Andrew i would give maybe a word of caution. throw a chain on the bucket before you trailer excavators . the hydros have the ability to ratchet up on you while in transit . this is how a lot of bridges end up getting hit by excavators ( you check your height before you leave and your good but 15 miles down the road your a foot taller since the hydros decided ratcheted up on you) the code number is 393.130 .(i work a little with bridges the cost of fixing a damaged beam is extravagant)

Another outstanding job .... I honestly don't know how you do it , you are a serious multi tasker , Kicking a** and taking names . I also have a F800 Dump , Great little truck , turns much better than my Peterbilt , That's for sure . Thanks for being an encouragement and mentor .
Pro Tip: Use a 4' straight log for grading. Grab onto the log using your thumb and use the log as a grader blade. It makes quick work of grading and leaves a smooth finish.
But you get your log dirty. No one wants a dirty log. Lol I drag the blade backwards and track it in a lil. The track marks help hold the seed in from washing away. Another sweet job Andrew.
We do the same thing with a 'mop pole'.. a 6 inch piece of steel pipe, 8 to 10 ft long, with a slot cut out for the bucket teeth and a piece of angle iron welded on for the tongue to grab.. That way, you get more surface area to work with.. Works great for grading and smoothing all types of material..
Great work. I clearly see how that EX100 is very useful as you mentioned in another video. Incredible machine. That bucket and thumb are fantastic for holding logs to buck them up as they'll be off the ground. Nice oak...someone will be warm with that wood...Cheers
The hay does three things: 1) retains a moist environment to help the seeds germinate, 2) prevents seeds from blowing away, and 3) prevents birds from eating the seeds (they're like a bird delicacy). Unfortunately, the hay also brings non-indiginous weeds, and takes a while to break down. They have really great seed products now that are coated for moisture retention without the weed risks. Birds, however, may always be a problem. They're crafty.
I always thought that hay keeps the wind from blowing grass seed away, hides the seed from birds and other animals that will eat it, and keeps the seed in place during rain. I also thought It added nutrients to the soil as it breaks down.
It's amazing how many people don't know the main purpose of hay or straw or mushroom manure (in my neck of the woods), including professional landscapers. It's to prevent the soil from drying out too quickly so the grass seed has a better chance of surviving. And there's a BIG difference between hay and straw. There are places where you would want to use one over the other. Again, most people couldn't tell you the difference between a straw or hay bale. You don't have to use a mulch if you keep your soil well watered.
AND in steeper slope areas, straw mulch is used for erosion control. The rains falling energy is expended on the straw, not breaking up the soil beneath. Odds are against grass seed germination without a covering of some kind, as per Anton above ^^^^^

I am thankful I didbecause I still have good hearing, eyes, and all of my fingers function as they should. . The Arkle Looks like the trees have outgrown the height of that balcony but the drone footage shows it is spectacular. Perhaps future tree removals for Andrew to regain that view.
Looks like a widow's walk, or some call them a widow's watch when it's enclosed. From some old folklore that the wives of sailors would anxiously await their husbands' arrival home, they would watch from the highest point at home overlooking the harbor or sea for their husband's ship to return to port. And if it never came back (there was a lot of ships lost in the early days), the wives would becomes widows.
Back for a second look at this video (in the last 6 mos, I think I've watched over 90% of Andrews videos!), and I have to say the most interesting part is when the Mavic Pro hovers stationary over the action, while its in progress! That piece of equipment really adds a unique perspective to this series. I always love to see the Hitachi in action too (means something big is happening. Love the high, "Let's Go to the Next Job" endings I had no idea NewYork state was so wooded; must be an amazing place to live.
Great videos Andrew! The purpose of the hey on top of newly seeded lawn is to provide shadow while the grass seeds are starting to grow, so the soil doesn't get too dry before the grass starts to grow. ;)
Logistics. Andrew, how do you refuel (also hydraulic fluids, etc.) whilst you are on the job away from your castle? I've seen 5 gal. jerry cans, but it seems too little for the hours you put in. Thanks for your time and trouble filming for us to follow your adventures!
If you watch the video about how he got started I think I understand now why everything kept breaking down on him....he works the heck out of everything he owns! But he gets the job done.
Man, most of the people making negative comments must live in the city, and buy their pre-cut wood from HD, have their cute little box trailer, towed behind their cute little SUV. This is called getting done. Look at the construction of Alaska pipeline and how it was done, have the 27K people working there were high or drunk half the time. Not to say you shouldn't take care, but the guy can move a trailer and picnic table with and excavator, I think he has a handle on things.
I hate HD wood. It's usually slash grade, meaning full of knotholes, chunks missing, rarely do you get a clean board unless you search and search for them.
I like your videos. It seems you know just the right spots to cut, edit and then continue with the kind of stuff we wanna see, so they’re never boring.

Another job well done, Andrew! Here in my area in Arkansas they use a boom truck and cut the tree down in sections and lower each section to the ground with a pulley. Tree removal here is expensive too. About the cheapest I ever heard recently is $500 and then the stump grinding is extra on top of that. But most tree services here charge at least $1000 per tree and I've even heard of some charging $3000 per tree. I've had one tree removed on my half acre lot, in 2012, and it cost me $1400, but that included trimming and topping some of the other trees. I've still got 9 trees ... 8 oaks and 1 Bradford Pear Tree .... and I would like to have 3 of them removed in the near future .... before I have a new roof put on my house. When you own a home it's always something. I try to do as much as I can myself, but for the big jobs I hire someone.
Down South, the straw is there to keep the birds from stealing the seeds, help hold in moisture, and to keep the seed from washing away during rainstorms. Loved the video.

Grown up toys ! I own a small John Deer lawn tractor, I pay a ride sometimes to young kids around my house. Oh the smiles, the bright eyes I get ! Every kid loves a " track-a-thor" ride !
Man! Did that ever bring back memories of what both my property and my neighbors' property looked like after Hurricane Michael went through. I lost fourteen trees on my property alone, thankfully none landed on the house but my workshop and storage building got wrecked by a huge one that belonged to my next door neighbor. Many, many weeks and a lot of chainsaw bars, chains and fuel before it was all over. Equipment and operators were so scarce after the storm that doing it all by hand was the only way many of us got our land cleaned up. Guys with stump grinding machines were worth their weight in gold. I love watching the way Andrew makes things look so easy.
It is an absolutely beautiful area you live and work in!!! I just loved so many parts in this video! Riding back on the motorized scooter was a riot! :) I am amazed at how easy you make it look operating the huge machinery, looks like an extension of your body, you gently move and smooth things like you were using your hands, simply amazing to watch!! And pulling the truck and full trailer out with no problem!!!! (mind blowing!) I about lost it when you effortlessly moved the camper with the bucket on the big crane (I guess you call it)! jospi2 Trees only root as deep as needed for water and this area appears to be fairly wet with the stream right there. Some trees are very shallow rooted by nature but trees like these hardwoods can go deeper to reach water.
I thought the same. I showed the video of the triple tree with very shallow roots to my wife. I was surprised at how flat the ground was under the roots. Makes you wonder how the trees dont just fall over as it seems there is not a lot holding them in place. I know the roots go out further, and Andrew had cut/ dug through some on one side, but they do get thinner towards the tips.

My observation is this. Connect to the log in a way that you can lift the log about a foot off the ground at the attachment point. To do this you will need weight in the bucket which should give you greater traction. You always lift the but end off the ground when you use the excavator to drag the logs...do the same thing with the tractor. Great videos.

Still too many trees too close to house for my taste. They don't seem to have very large or deep roots so any coulf fall in good wind. Neat job and very tidy finishing up.
Agreed about your camera work. Makes it interesting pulling in more than one camera getting different angles. Notice U don't do it all the time undoubtedly because of the degree of planing an extra hands you may use.
Which leads to the drone work,...Question: when you pull away from the quarry with your full load who's driving the truck and who's flying the bird? Figured it could be as easy as someone riding shotgun And flying the drone. Still and all it's quite a trick and I think it's cool that you don't explain away all your exceptional movie making skills. Keeps us guessing and appreciating all the time, effort, & passion U put into sharing what you obviously love to do. Or is it play with...?

I have never seen trees with so shallow roots! Super clean up!
In the Northeast we tend to have shallow topsoil sitting on bedrock so this isn't uncommon. If given a chance, trees will definitely try to establish deeper roots

only thing I saw that could get him in trouble is not having a chain around the arm of the excavator. Here its a $300 fine if it doesn't cause property damage or $1000 if it does. Id rather spend the $70 on a chain and binder than pay more money cause of something stupid

Andrew i would give maybe a word of caution. throw a chain on the bucket before you trailer excavators . the hydros have the ability to ratchet up on you while in transit . this is how a lot of bridges end up getting hit by excavators ( you check your height before you leave and your good but 15 miles down the road your a foot taller since the hydros decided ratcheted up on you) the code number is 393.130 .(i work a little with bridges the cost of fixing a damaged beam is extravagant)

That had me cracking up! that's the same approach my father taught me. Soon as I saw the truck spinning tires, i thought, "this is gonna; get good!"
Pro Tip: Use a 4' straight log for grading. Grab onto the log using your thumb and use the log as a grader blade. It makes quick work of grading and leaves a smooth finish.
But you get your log dirty. No one wants a dirty log. Lol
I drag the blade backwards and track it in a lil. The track marks help hold the seed in from washing away.
Another sweet job Andrew.
We do the same thing with a 'mop pole'.. a 6 inch piece of steel pipe, 8 to 10 ft long, with a slot cut out for the bucket teeth and a piece of angle iron welded on for the tongue to grab.. That way, you get more surface area to work with..
Works great for grading and smoothing all types of material..
Great work. I clearly see how that EX100 is very useful as you mentioned in another video. Incredible machine. That bucket and thumb are fantastic for holding logs to buck them up as they'll be off the ground. Nice oak...someone will be warm with that wood...Cheers
The hay does three things: 1) retains a moist environment to help the seeds germinate, 2) prevents seeds from blowing away, and 3) prevents birds from eating the seeds (they're like a bird delicacy). Unfortunately, the hay also brings non-indiginous weeds, and takes a while to break down. They have really great seed products now that are coated for moisture retention without the weed risks. Birds, however, may always be a problem. They're crafty.
I always thought that hay keeps the wind from blowing grass seed away, hides the seed from birds and other animals that will eat it, and keeps the seed in place during rain. I also thought It added nutrients to the soil as it breaks down.
It's amazing how many people don't know the main purpose of hay or straw or mushroom manure (in my neck of the woods), including professional landscapers. It's to prevent the soil from drying out too quickly so the grass seed has a better chance of surviving. And there's a BIG difference between hay and straw. There are places where you would want to use one over the other. Again, most people couldn't tell you the difference between a straw or hay bale. You don't have to use a mulch if you keep your soil well watered.
AND in steeper slope areas, straw mulch is used for erosion control. The rains falling energy is expended on the straw, not breaking up the soil beneath. Odds are against grass seed germination without a covering of some kind, as per Anton above ^^^^^

I am thankful I didbecause I still have good hearing, eyes, and all of my fingers function as they should. . Protect your eyes, hands, and ears now.I know there a lot of us out here that appreciate you taking the time for getting in and out of your heavy equipment to shoot the video scenes in the proper perspective, sequence and camera positioning. Looks like a widow's walk, or some call them a widow's watch when it's enclosed. From some old folklore that the wives of sailors would anxiously await their husbands' arrival home, they would watch from the highest point at home overlooking the harbor or sea for their husband's ship to return to port. And if it never came back (there was a lot of ships lost in the early days), the wives would becomes widows.

Back for a second look at this video (in the last 6 mos, I think I've watched over 90% of Andrews videos!), and I have to say the most interesting part is when the Mavic Pro hovers stationary over the action, while its in progress! That piece of equipment really adds a unique perspective to this series. I always love to see the Hitachi in action too (means something big is happening. Love the high, "Let's Go to the Next Job" endings I had no idea NewYork state was so wooded; must be an amazing place to live.
Great videos Andrew! The purpose of the hey on top of newly seeded lawn is to provide shadow while the grass seeds are starting to grow, so the soil doesn't get too dry before the grass starts to grow. ;)
Logistics. Andrew, how do you refuel (also hydraulic fluids, etc.) whilst you are on the job away from your castle? I've seen 5 gal. jerry cans, but it seems too little for the hours you put in. Thanks for your time and trouble filming for us to follow your adventures!
10 to 15 gallons in those small machine will last over a day at full rpm. 12 hour shift in my big 986 loader running hard only burns under 70 gal.

Man, most of the people making negative comments must live in the city, and buy their pre-cut wood from HD, have their cute little box trailer, towed behind their cute little SUV. This is called getting done. Look at the construction of Alaska pipeline and how it was done, have the 27K people working there were high or drunk half the time. Not to say you shouldn't take care, but the guy can move a trailer and picnic table with and excavator, I think he has a handle on things.
I hate HD wood. It's usually slash grade, meaning full of knotholes, chunks missing, rarely do you get a clean board unless you search and search for them.

Another job well done, Andrew! Here in my area in Arkansas they use a boom truck and cut the tree down in sections and lower each section to the ground with a pulley. Tree removal here is expensive too. About the cheapest I ever heard recently is $500 and then the stump grinding is extra on top of that. But most tree services here charge at least $1000 per tree and I've even heard of some charging $3000 per tree. I've had one tree removed on my half acre lot, in 2012, and it cost me $1400, but that included trimming and topping some of the other trees. I've still got 9 trees ... 8 oaks and 1 Bradford Pear Tree .... and I would like to have 3 of them removed in the near future .... before I have a new roof put on my house. When you own a home it's always something. I try to do as much as I can myself, but for the big jobs I hire someone.

Down South, the straw is there to keep the birds from stealing the seeds, help hold in moisture, and to keep the seed from washing away during rainstorms. Loved the video.

Man! Did that ever bring back memories of what both my property and my neighbors' property looked like after Hurricane Michael went through. I lost fourteen trees on my property alone, thankfully none landed on the house but my workshop and storage building got wrecked by a huge one that belonged to my next door neighbor. Many, many weeks and a lot of chainsaw bars, chains and fuel before it was all over. Equipment and operators were so scarce after the storm that doing it all by hand was the only way many of us got our land cleaned up. Guys with stump grinding machines were worth their weight in gold. I love watching the way Andrew makes things look so easy.
It is an absolutely beautiful area you live and work in!!! I just loved so many parts in this video! Riding back on the motorized scooter was a riot! :) I am amazed at how easy you make it look operating the huge machinery, looks like an extension of your body, you gently move and smooth things like you were using your hands, simply amazing to watch!! And pulling the truck and full trailer out with no problem!!!! (mind blowing!) I about lost it when you effortlessly moved the camper with the bucket on the big crane (I guess you call it)! Just love watching you work, looks like there aren't many things you can't do. Peace and good fortune to you!

Trees only root as deep as needed for water and this area appears to be fairly wet with the stream right there.
Some trees are very shallow rooted by nature but trees like these hardwoods can go deeper to reach water.
I thought the same. I showed the video of the triple tree with very shallow roots to my wife. I was surprised at how flat the ground was under the roots. Makes you wonder how the trees dont just fall over as it seems there is not a lot holding them in place. I know the roots go out further, and Andrew had cut/ dug through some on one side, but they do get thinner towards the tips.

My observation is this. Connect to the log in a way that you can lift the log about a foot off the ground at the attachment point. To do this you will need weight in the bucket which should give you greater traction. You always lift the but end off the ground when you use the excavator to drag the logs...do the same thing with the tractor. Great videos.
