  • Hyundai IONIQ 5 remains one of the best EVs available. A modern design classic with fast charging, plenty of internal space, and great gadgets, it's captured the hearts and minds of many. Myself included.
The 2025 model year refresh takes everything that was great and adds some tweaks that make it all even better.

I've just got a Ioniq 5 premium RWD 58kwh on a very cheap lease deal and I'm blown away by how good it is. It's genuinely the best car I've ever driven. The buttons in the cabin to control the heated seats etc is a very welcome addition but I'm finding the voice control works well to control that sort of thing. Currently I'm getting 4-5 miles to the KWH and I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do once the warmer weather is here.

I have commented before that i have an Genesis Electrified G80, and as you are aware Genesis is the premium brand of HMG.
Perhaps to clear up a couple of points you mentioned.
My car has HDA2 and as i understand it, and most of these features are only available when your on a UK motorway, as well as i discovered on European highways, or at least i discovered on French Autoroutes.
Lane change assist which allows the car to change lanes just by activating the indicator.
Automatic speed maintenance according to posted speed limit signs, useful for variable limit motorways. Although i would add it wont change the speed until its virtually passed the sign, so beware of speed cameras! Also strangly from my experience it wont slow you down below 50mph, it will tell you the speed is say 40 but you havs to manually adjusf the speed via the cruise control.
Lane adjustment according to larger a vehicles close to you in the adjacent lane. Ive not really noticed this but its supposed to adjust slightly your position within your lane if a vehicle next to you is close by.
The last feature is supposed to be some sort of machine learning, where the car adjusts its driving style, presumably acceleration and braking, according to how the car is usually driven.
On your point regarding the 12x battery, my continually measures the voltage of the battery and if it falls low it will charge it from the main traction battery. This maybe dependent on the sfate of charge level of the main battery, but i left my car for more than six weeks between early Jan and Feb, and according to a useful bluetooth device connected to the 12v battery i cou,d see via the devices associated phone app, the. Attery was recharging periodically.
Im guessing that given the link between Genesis and Hyundai/Kia this feature musf have found its way onto those cars as well.
In conclusion, ive had my E G80 for 2 years in July. This is essentially my first EV, and it replaced twenty years of Jaguar's and a Maserati Ghibli, and i have to say its the best car I've owned, and that includes the excellent after sales service that Genesis provides...

      Same wi' me.
In fact - mid 2022 I *tried* to buy an Ioniq 5 ( premium trim).
I couldn't... They didn't have any. Worse - the dealership outright lied and were like : "We put in your order!". When they have no such thing. I later discovered they cannot 'order' the car, like you can with the Tesla's, and they simply 'get what they're given'. If your car happens to be one of the ones they get given? Then sure... If there's a waiting list and you're ontop? There's your car!
But coupled with them not *actually* being able to 'order' my car, the 'market adjustment' addition ( to the tune of like 4-5k) plus the 'stealer-ship' mentality had me rubbed the wrong way.
Naturally, as soon as Jan 2023 rolled around, Tesla dropped their prices (a ton) and the guv'ment rebate? Made it a complete no brainer.
      Oh well...

Checked the 12V with car scanner on my E-Niro and got 14.1v so quite happy really. I'm really wondering if people's problems with it stem from not pressing the brake pedal before turning the car on to warm themselves up/play with the infotainment etc?
I have had the low power mode come on twice now though! Once at 9% with all the heating possible, where when I stopped at the roundabout next to the charger, the car stopped and I had to turn it off and on again. But the second time was with 67% battery at 20mph in town (Wales), so I'm now wondering if cell #58 has its problems - which Kia won't admit to!

On the lane assist 2 and related 'improvements', I seem to recall you saying that around the time you got your Ionic Hyundai were going to reduce lane assist functionality on later cars? Full functionality at that time was only on one model variant (the one you had) and that later versions would have a lower spec.
Seems like the levelling up is to bring the newer cars up to the same level yours was, at least for lane assist etc. The question then is will they also update the mass of cars later than yours which had the more restricted version.

I also love the Ioniq 5 and almost bought it, but discovered it had a payload issue. Several people in Norway returned their cars because they could not bring their family and luggage at the same time... a pretty dumb design flaw, and one I hope they fix. The Norwegian Car owner Association (NAF) measured the payload on the i5 to be 290+75kg, which meant my family of 5 could only bring 20kg of luggage... Turns out Hyundai does not include the weight of fluids, floor mats, charging cable or any such loose items in their specified gross weight, so the measured payload was more than 50kg lower than the spec. The reason Hyundai did this was likely to get the car registred as a 5 seater, as the rules say a car with less than 300+75kg total payload is a 4 seater. This is a shame because the Ioniq 5 is actually one of few family cars that have a proper width in the second row for 3 people.

Andrew, my 2023 Ioniq 5 Ultimate charges as soon as you plug it in, also Bluelink lets you program the charge, and control all the functions, unlocking, pre-conditioning etc.
My biggest disappointment is - there is NO 12v socket in the boot. I thought the Ultimate came with one, but it does not.
Now I have to strip out the carpets trim and lining to route the rear dashcam it to the rear passenger USB port.
The rear wiper missing is not a problem. I used to drive a lorry and always use the side mirrors. But on a a dark wet rainy night, the camera's are useless.
Hyundai really need to relocate them or make them pop out like VW ones.

    • @MrEV
      @MrEV  Před 3 měsíci +1

Perhaps I should have been clearer: it's related to rapid charging. It means you can go to a charger (like IONITY), plug-in, and have it start charging immediately without needing to wave a payment card. As far as I'm aware, the IONIQ 5 doesn't currently do that. (I think IONIQ 6 does.)
I didn't hear about the 12v in the boot, but I'd be surprised if it's not there now as well.

    • @bricktop7803

With regard to the 'new' safety features: Maybe these are now standard? My Lounge edition has them already but I think that the cheaper trim levels don't.
I heard that the cross traffic sensors were removed from the 2022 model, but again, my car has them. Maybe also a question of trim level?
I miss the motorised door handles that automatically pop out. These were removed (due to Covid supply shortages, I was told) from European models. US models still seem to have them. It would be nice if these were reintroduced, as I find manually having to push them out a bit clunky.

The improvements to the central console look good. I also like physical buttons, which was one of the reasons me choosing a HI5 above a Model Y. (Along with the lack of HUD, lack of Android Auto and glitchy Tesla SW. (Windscreen wipers!!!))
My 2023 model has wireless charging but not wireless Android Auto/Apple Car Play, which I've solved with an AAWireless adapter, which wasn't expensive and works well.
