- Something very different for me.... I'm keeping quiet haha
It's been a hot day, here in the UK, and as it was starting to cool down in the evening I felt a sudden urge to take my lace outside. This was shortly followed by the idea of filming some of it. No chat, no explanation of which stitches I'm doing, just for the enjoyment of listening to the sound of the bobbins and the birds.
Unfortunately my camera also picked up a lot of background noise, so it's probably not as relaxing to watch as I'd hoped.
The complex rhythm of lace-making. Beautiful, Lora ❤
Thanks Theresa, glad you liked it
Very cool to watch the process… rather mesmerizing/hypnotic! The little bobbin thuds are kind of soothing 😊.
Thank you. I love the sound of the bobbins. Probably sounds better on a traditional pillow too, but mine is just polystyrene haha
You are so clever Lora.
Thank you for sharing
Thank you Krissy
Hi! Yes this ASMR. Thanks for another video! I played this in background while I did some writing and it worked out pretty well for me.
Thanks Cherie, I wasn’t sure if the background noise would be too annoying for those who like to listen to the sounds. It sounded so nice when I was doing it, I was quite disappointed when I heard it on the recording. But I guess that is the beauty of how our ears naturally filter out the extra noise.
OoooAhhhhh 🤩 I love this craft. I looked into it a long while back ... didn’t seem wise to try it with 6 young children... but I did get as far as trying to carve some home made bobbins 💖 Thanks for sharing. My Grandma taught me how to tat. I still have the shuttle she gave me... ☺️ And her Workbasket magazines 😁
Yes, I imagine young children would want to play with all the bobbins (I panic enough when my cat comes near it!). It would be probably be something that would have to wait until the kids were all in bed, but by then, I guess you’d be too tired to concentrate! I’ve never tried tatting. Sometimes I think I’d like to give it a go but then I think I’ve probably got too many hobbies already haha. That’s lovely that you’ve still got the shuttle, and what a lovely connection to remember your Grandma
Well done. 😊👍
Oh my goodness, that looks so complicated. I would have a tangled mess! 😂
Thanks Sharon. I have 36 bobbins on my pillow for this pattern, but when you’re working the lace you only focus on 4 bobbins at a time so it’s not quite as complex as it looks. However, when I stopped filming and went to take a photo for the thumbnail, I accidentally knocked the pillow with my knee and quite a few of the bobbins jumped up in the air and landed in a jumbled mess…. I did panic, but managed to get them back in the right order… I hope! Haha
@@madebylora You sure are a talented lady. 👍💛😊
How do you know which ones to over and under?
There is a strict pattern of cross and twist (cross is when left goes over right, and twist is when right goes over left). However, as with other traditional crafts, there are many regional differences. It’s one of those situations where I could say something is ALWAYS or NEVER done a certain way and there is bound to be some region or country that does the opposite haha.
