Im sure the settlement is them paying out the contract. My guess is they wanted to cut ties with the streamer and not pay him and he fought for the money that was in the contract.

Doc didn't know she was a minor, proved it to a judge or jury, which exonerating him any wrongdoing and implicated Twitch violated their own contract and allowed minors on parts of the platform that were prohibited. That's why he won in the first place and why those employees were let go. They essentially pressured their own management to sever the contract under false pretenses.

Contracts are made with clauses that if a party breaks it, the offending party reimburses the other and the contract is terminated. And they usually includes a clause if someone acts in a negative light publicly, Twitch can cancel the contract. If Doc got a settlement, that means Twitch was the offending party and broke the contract, and Doc didn't do anything. Because if he did, Twitch would've just cancelled the contract and moved on. No settlement involved. Similar to when Mixer shut down they had to pay out Ninja to cancel the contract.

If the email is real/true, then this pretty much exactly what I expected. Doc was texting someone who he did not know was a minor. It is possible Twitch knew the users' age via account info, but that doesn't mean Doc was privy to this info. It worries me that he didn't clarify whether or not he knew this person was a minor, that would heavily color my interpretation of the events.

Doc didn't know she was a minor, proved it to a judge or jury, which exonerating him any wrongdoing and implicated Twitch violated their own contract and allowed minors on parts of the platform that were prohibited. That's why he won in the first place and why those employees were let go. They essentially pressured their own management to sever the contract under false pretenses.

Contracts are made with clauses that if a party breaks it, the offending party reimburses the other and the contract is terminated. And they usually includes a clause if someone acts in a negative light publicly, Twitch can cancel the contract. If Doc got a settlement, that means Twitch was the offending party and broke the contract, and Doc didn't do anything. Because if he did, Twitch would've just cancelled the contract and moved on. No settlement involved. Similar to when Mixer shut down they had to pay out Ninja to cancel the contract.

If the email is real/true, then this pretty much exactly what I expected. Doc was texting someone who he did not know was a minor. It is possible Twitch knew the users' age via account info, but that doesn't mean Doc was privy to this info.
It worries me that he didn't clarify whether or not he knew this person was a minor, that would heavily color my interpretation of the events.
I mean saying "I am not a pedophile" is as clear as it gets.

The idea that he'd respond with a novel and not once say that he didn't know it was a minor, means one of two things: 1. The person is too young for that excuse to even work, or 2. He's not claiming that excuse anyway. To give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he didn't know, when he had a very long post with a lot of opportunity to say so, is so wild to me. That would be the first thing he said, of course it would be. It wasn't anywhere in there.

Protecting the victim was in Twitch's best interest, which could be why they paid the settlement. If there was a lawsuit, the victim's identity and safety would be in jeopardy and that would be a much worse suit than paying a couple million to get the perv off their platform. You're glossing over the cost benefit analysis. BTW, he knew exactly how old the person was.

I don't understand the fixation with the payment, he got paid because whatever he did, did not amount to a breach of contract, it has nothing to do as to whether there was any wrongdoing, all it means is that it was not covered by his contract with Twitch so they lacked cause to terminate his contract, and so he still had to be paid.
I would assume that sexting a minor, especially willingly, would be enough to breach a contract as you are BREAKING THE TOS (Terms of Service) of their Site.

@@erick3755yes but the internet isn't the same as meeting in person where yoy might be able to visually confirm someone's age with an ID and that person can claim they're of age so I don't know how you would think someone is somehow in thw wrong for talking to someone who they believe is of age. We also don't know what was said, just that it's inappropriate which could be anything from saying something like your preference for a female body part over another or it could be explicit details about what he would like to do to her. But everyone seems to be acting like he's telling a 12 year old in detail what he would enjoy doing with them which is rather odd.
