Steam Deck OLED is NOT for AAA Games!

  • The Steam Deck OLED may not be powerful enough to provide a great experience in AAA games. You may need to reduce graphics settings and resolution, and utilize FSR to achieve a stable 30 to 40 FPS. However, this approach may compromise the experience of visually stunning games like Horizon Forbidden West.

    I agree with you. It's not a machine for newer AAA games.
    It works best for AA, indie games and older AAA games.
    You can use remote play for newer AAA games.

    What a weird take. I personally also prefer playing on a decent PC at high framerates, but it's hard to generalize. You have to keep in mind that lower graphical settings can still look pretty good on a smaller display (way smaller than your desktop monitor or TV). And yeah, you'll have live with 30 or 40 FPS in many games, and some games perform even worse. But I don't know. Uncharted 4 for example plays very similar to how it played on PlayStation 4, which ran it at 30 FPS - and the reception of the game back then was pretty good. Telling people they're "using it wrong" because they are genuinely enjoying AAA games on the Deck is pretty arrogant.

    • @TrueEasyTech
      @TrueEasyTech  Před 5 měsíci

      You will have to play Uncharted 4 on Steam Deck on lowest to have 40fps when on PS4 your settings high to ultra. But I do understand you point:)

    40fps is actually smooth. On a 7 inch handheld at 800p you don't need to crank up settings to max, even on low or medium settings looks fine. Expecting PS5 level graphics on a handheld is totally unrealistic. That said some games are a bit too much for the Steam Deck, such as Starfield, Avatar or Dragons Dogma 2, Returnal etc

    • @TrueEasyTech
      @TrueEasyTech  Před 5 měsíci

      I own both the Steam Deck and the Rog Ally. The Rog Ally can handle AAA games at much higher settings, albeit with the drawback of poor battery life. However, don’t get me wrong, the Steam Deck is the most balanced handheld device, offering good performance and impressive battery life. As you said, for instance, games like Dragon’s Dogma 2 are not playable on the Steam Deck at all, whereas on the Rog Ally, you can achieve 30fps on the lowest settings.

      @@TrueEasyTechI really think if you can only run it on the low mode on Ally with 30 fps, the difference between SD oled and Ally can be ignored. Basically 40 fps is the threshold for smooth playing on a handheld.

    The steam deck was designed to play your steam library on the go. It’s literally that. I’ve no idea why people over complicate it. If you need to play a game using a handheld then do it. If the game runs it runs. It’s a better option than playing on a console that you can’t use remotely or a PC you can’t take on the road with you.

    • @TrueEasyTech
      @TrueEasyTech  Před 5 měsíci

      It was designed to run them, but some games are just getting destroyed when you go to the lowest settings, especially when using FSR. So, while it can give you 30 fps, games like Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart are better to play at 60 fps with at least medium to high settings to appreciate all the hard work that was done by developers.

    • @zappybazinga8124
      @zappybazinga8124 Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@TrueEasyTech It’s no different to someone who has a low end PC playing games. If that’s what you’ve got available then that’s what you play. When I’m in hotels for work I’m not taking my PS5 or PC with me. So that’s when the steam deck is used. People are honestly getting very confused by it. It’s a handheld device. It doesn’t need to stack up to the performance of a console because you wouldn’t use it in the same scenario. It offers you the option to stream games too if you prefer that to the native performance. Sitting on a hotel bed playing ratchet and clank was awesome. I didnt miss my PS5 because if I didn’t have the steam deck I wouldn’t have been playing the game at all at that moment.

    Much agreed!! I have 2-in-1 laptop that I Thunderbolt up to my eGPU (RTX 2070) to play AAA games. 1440p high 60fps across most games that are not CPU-bound, this makes sense too cause my laptop has the most storage at 2TB to host all these huge games. I'm planning to get an SD for the sole purpose of playing all the lighter games at max settings, and if needed simply stream my AAA games from the laptop/eGPU combo. Plus it takes a ton of time to load into AAA games kinda defeats the purpose playing it on the go on the SD. I can appreciate your insight on experiencing AAA games the way they're meant to be experienced

    I have no trouble playing current triple A titles on my Oled Steam Deck ..................... remotely off of my gaming desktop. :) On the go there are tons of other games I can play for longer battery life.
    Even my 7 year old mid-range gaming laptop can outperform the Ally and GO with a few exception due to the older CPU. What makes a good desktop is not what makes a good handheld as the Switch is still outselling all PC handhelds combined.
    If you are expecting a desktop or even laptop experience on a handheld you will be disappointed. Yet I saw a review of Kingdom Come Deliverance for the Switch and even with sub-par 30 fps and graphic sacrifices people were very happy to be able to play the game on their Switch. When it comes down to it , it's all about having fun playing games and not the hardware.
    The major downside of playing demanding games on PC handhelds is it burns through the batteries.

    High bullshit man. Did you work with Valve when they designed SD to tell people it is only for lighter/indie titles? And you are here talking about Ultra settings and stuff. Just keep in mind that a PC that can handle latest AAA releases in Ultra@60fps at higher resolutions are those that 95% of people out there simply don't have. These devices can cost upwards of few thousands while a SD is only a fraction of that. Plus you get extreme portability, an OS and software bundle that was designed specifically for this handheld system, and a great community.

I am playing Horizon Forbidden West on ultra wide 3440x1440 monitor 60+.

    If you are a busy father, you wouldnt have time to invest and deal with a $1.5k AAA PC setup which you would rarely use for the reason i mentioned. You would just prefer something that you can use on a couch or bed while the kids are sleeping. Personally as a kid from the 90s i don't play much AAA games today but i prefer older classics such as Half-Life, Fallout, Serious Sam etc.. They are perfectly played on a Steam Deck at max settings which is perfect (at least for me). Steam Deck isnt for everyone but Valve hit a nail with this thing
