      I only want to shoot mature(old) bucks, and the deer I filmed on that hunt were all young deer.
      Hoping for better luck this year!

    Love my Summit climber but don't like climbing frozen popple in it. The bark is too smooth. I was about half way up a cold popple one morning and took my hands off the top and it instantly dropped down to the bottom half. It felt like I was standing there with my pants down around my ankles. Fortunately it was just a reminder to keep some weight on the seat/top half or away she'll go!

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry  Před rokem

      Absolutely! Frozen poplars are tricky, you have to be careful once it gets to -10C.
      What I do is as I move the top section up, I 'saw' the tree with the gripper teeth to make sure it bits into the wood.
      The bottom half I find no issues as my weight holds it.
      But I really sink the grippers on it too.

    Hey buddy I just ran across your video here!!! Absolutely awesome video buddy!! One question I have about the the 300H&H how does it compare to a Remington Mdl 700 in a 300 Short Action Ultra Mag cartridge??? I ended up buying the very first one from scheels sporting goods store and after buying it I found out that they didn’t have ammo for it!! I asked them when they would be getting some in for it and they said they didn’t no when!! My wife’s uncle does lots and lots of shooting and no’s a couple Remington reps so I called the wife’s uncle and asked him since he was the one that had told me about the 300 short action ultra mag to begin with instead of just getting a 300 ultra mag!! He ended up calling two or three different Remington reps to see if they could get any ammo for the gun!! All the reps returned his phone cal back saying they couldn’t get any ammo for it yet but they was working on it for sure!!! Needless to say it took over 6 months before I was able to even get ammo for it!!! After shooting the gun though it is a super flat shooting gun with over 50% less recoil then the 300 ultra mag has!! Absolutely love that gun and I can definitely hit stuff quite a ways away with it also!!

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry  Před 2 lety

      J.J., I have no experience with the .300 Short Action Ultra Mag. I can tell you the .300H&H is a great cartridge.
      To be honest a .300WSM or .300WinMag probably make more sense, as ammo is much easier to get for those.
      But since I handload that's not an issue for me. I have lots of brass, bullets etc...

    • @recentlyretired
      @recentlyretired Před rokem +1

      Get a 300 win mag , you can get ammo pretty much anywhere, unless you hand load stick with a caliber that’s common

    • @j.j.clingman4083
      @j.j.clingman4083 Před rokem +1

      @@recentlyretired the 300 wind mag has way too much kick to it!! My wife’s uncle has a couple of them and he told me that they kick pretty hard and he’s a 6’4” tall and has a curb grinding Business and a poured foundation walls business and has probably more guns and has been on more hunts than a person ever gets to do in there whole life!!! He said that when he goes out and shoots his 300 ultra mag that he can only shoot it maybe 10 times before his shoulder is bruised!! That was why he told me to get the new 300short auction ultra mag!! Because it doesn’t have even have the kick back like a 12gauge does!!! He said that I would definitely be much happier with a much lighter recoiling gun than one that would leave bruises all over my shoulder!!! And once someone gets uncomfortable from shooting it tends to lead to not as good of shooting groups!! We’ll I’m definitely happy with getting my 300 S.A.U.M and I can definitely shoot anything that a 300 U.M. Or 300win mags can shoot and definitely with less drop than those guns shooting with!! I just had baught the 300S.A.U.M before they started making ammo for it to just see how well the sells would be for it!! I have also got a leupold scoop with a 8x20x50 on it!!! Definitely the best scoops for the money and I have a leupold on every long range gun that I have!!!!

    how big inches wise you think that monster guy is?

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry  Před 2 lety +2

      ByLeb, what I can tell you is it was the biggest live on the hoof whitetail I ever saw, in terms of body. He was round like a 45 gal drum, just thick!
      He crossed the highway in front of me, stopped in the ditch, turned to look at me, and it was dark so I couldn't see how tall his tines were, just saw the width and the mass, which was incredible.
      I cannot guess at "score" or "inches".
      But it made me think... 'Wow, deer get that big!?'

    • @GrizzlyCountry
      @GrizzlyCountry  Před 2 lety +2

      And btw, the 'score' on a deer is only part of it, right?
      A giant bodied, massive racked, old, mature whitetail... one of those monsters that usually only live in your dreams... one with such massively thick rack that you don't care what the score is. It was a privilege just to have seen that buck.

Deer or no deer we do it because we love it and everything that goes with it. I've bow hunted wisconsin for the last 30 years with my brother and father. Dad don't hunt anymore I'm 50 brother is 62 and we both hunt hard. Drag/cart our deer out sometimes a mile and a half !! Not easy alot of people wouldn't do it because they need their 4 wheeler. But the hard things are what makes it rewarding for the both of us. My son 31 years old hunted for the first time ever. He has a hard time keeping up with us but I also lost my job of 20 years in sept. So I was able to hunt almost every day and got in pretty good shape. But my wife demanded I come home today after 3 months in the woods. I was home maybe 10 days out of the 3 months. The last thing I watched before leaving the cabin was your video and it was probably one of the best I watched all fall. Thank God she understands my love of the woods and the comorodity I share with my brother and now my son !! Best of luck to you in everything you do !!
