If you look closely on the opening sequence of HOTD, you'll find the noble houses that were major supporters of Rhaenyra and Aegon. There you can find the Velaryon, Hightower, Starks, Lannister, Arryn, Baratheon, Blackwood, Redwyne, Manderly, Peake and Dustin sigils.
This is actually a real thing in heraldry, when a Lord's emblem is actually a pun on their name. It's called "Canting Arms", and while some are more obvious and less jokey eg - The Kingdom of Castille (part of what is now Spain) having a Castle The Kingdom of Leon (part of what is now Spain) having a Lion Others are far more tongue in cheek. Princess Beatrice has 3 bees upon the Britsh Royal shield. Why 3 Bees? Bee-Thrice. Bea-trice. Berwickshire in Scotland's coat of arms are a Bear and a Tree, specifically the Wych Elm. Bear Wych. Note that the etymology of Berwick has nothing to do with Bears or Wyches, but Bere (Barley) + Wic (Town). Berlin also has a Bear on their shield, Bear in German being Bär. Bärlin.
I can't think of a single time when the tyrells followed the direction of the Hightowers. If anything, it's largely been the opposite: the WOT5K, Roberts Rebellion, and the blackfyre rebellions all saw the tyrells leading and their bannermen following. One of the only reasons the DotD was an exception was because Lord tyrell was a child, his mother was regent, and she couldn't jeopardise her sons safety by picking a side

The Stormlands had been Loyal to House Durrandon for thousands of years, and House Durrandon was represented by a black stag on a gold field, and by the words "Ours is the Fury". Orys Baratheon took the last Durrandon as his wife, and adopted her sigin and house words. So through the female line, all Baratheons after Orys come from the Durrandon bloodline, which was Stormlands royalty for millenia.
The Greyjoys were also upjumped by the Targaryens kinda. I mean Aegon annihilated the Hoares and then the Greyjoys won in the Iron Islands power struggle.

I´m going to being honest I am not a fan of George RR Martin´s favourite Houses: I despise Blackwoods, Arryns are boring, Starks are overrated and Velaryons only exist to being submissive at Targaryens. I kinda prefer Baratheon and Lannister overall
