TCM Presents Whisper of the Heart

In January 2006, Turner Classic Movies ran a month-long tribute to the animated films of Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. Here, Pixar's John Lasseter introduces TCM's presentation of Yoshifumi Kondo's Whisper of the Heart.

Whisper of the Heart is one of Studio Ghibli's unspoken masterpieces. This film is filled with so much heart, so much emotion, so much character, so much humanity that you can't help but fall in love with practically every single aspect of it. It's so saddening to know that Yoshifumi Kondo passed away after directing this film, because he crafted such a fantastic masterpiece in Whisper of the Heart. I would have loved to see him make more movies after this one. Rest in peace, Kondo-san.

They had a back to back showing of Ghibli movies on this channel, and my intention was to see My Neighbor Totoro, but I couldn't stay up late because I had school in the morning.
So, I programmed my VHS to record the Totoro movie. However, there was a malfunction, and I instead got the ending credits but the full movie of Whisper of the Heart.
Best mistake to ever happen to me because now this movie is my all-time favorite. 😁
