  • My friend's still have issues in getting the Pruning right when it comes to Summer and Autumn fruiting Raspberries so this is how I do mine.

    Yeah, really useful thanks. Hang on though.....you say if you see fruits growing on a new stem in autumn then cut it back as it is autumn fruiting. I beg to differ. I have a summer-fruiting variety (Glen Ample) in it's first year summer of growth. It has taken to late July to grow tall and has produced proper flowers and fruits. No way I am cutting this back, it this year's growth which will produce next year. It's just at an early stage of it development. Cheers.

    Thank you for the information on pruning. Those sunflowers are kicking! Maters and cukes looking good. Hate to see that wilt. Still producing is key! Raspberry looked tasty. Cabbage is shonuff gonna be a winner. Stay safe Mr. Terry and have a great rest of the week!

    You mentioned the wasp, I've just watched Wild about Nature and he filmed wasp taking caterpillars from his kale! I didn't know they did that, did you Terry? Cracking video once again and my word, that's an impressive red cabbage!!! X

Thanks for all the info about the raspberries, I am three years into growing them and will probably have raspberries for the rest of my life because they are so productive and so good and so easy to maintain a couple times a year.     Very timely video. I had a right hodge-podge of summer fruiting and autumn fruiting all growing together, so I had no real idea how to prune what, when. Cut them all down to the ground last winter and now I know. This time I'll label them. Great tip on the wood ash - do you put it on autumn fruiting rasberries as well? I'm guessing a handful sprinkled around the plants?

      All the fruit bushes and trees get the same treatment except the blueberries and yes a dusting is plenty.

    Hi Terry hope your well mate, that was a very timely video regarding the raspberry’s as I was wondering how to prune mine 😳, just as an aside, did I hear you right in saying that you can’t have anything over 6ft at your plot ?? If so what do you do with your corn and sunflowers, cut the heads off lol, stay safe mate and have a good week David 👍👍

    I've heard too much nitrogen can burn young plant root. If you were planting raspberry canes would use much manure or liquid neetle tea ?

    I have 3 strawberry plants in a pot and i have managed to grow over 20 new plants from the runners. What is the best was to protect them over the winter.......In the ground or in pots ?
    At the minute they are all still attached to the mother plants and are in small pots.
    I have a greenhouse to keep them in during the winter if pots are the answer.

      These are hardy so they will withstand low temperatures, how cold does it get in winter where you live? They should be okay outside and in the elements.

      My raised bed plot Tour will cover the rat issues Steve, no traps at the moment, someone mentioned about sweet potatoes being poisonous to them and not other animals.

      @@terrykingsallotmentgardening Yes, there is a chemical in sweet potatoes that forms a cyanide reaction in the rat's gut, it is not enough to kill them but it may repel them. Raw peanuts are the way to go if you want to get rid of them.

    Could you help me please? I’m new to raspberries and didn’t know to cut them back last year after they finished fruiting. I have both a summer fruiting and autumn fruiting kind but very immature. I’ve noticed the old stalks are sprouting new growth, will this be fruit at all?! Or am I just growing leaves!

      The Autumn fruiting will have Raspberries growing on the old growth, but best cut back to 6 inches from ground level so all the energy goes into this years growth and fruit. Summer fruiting gets the fruit on last year's growth so the years previous wood needs removing again so all the energy goes into this years fruit and the new growth for next years harvest. So complicated if you forget to prune around Christmas and New year.

Should I cut them now? Will I be able to get fruits from the same plant next summer? I’ll appreciate your response.

      @yngrid0623 if they are summer fruiting and you have had some fruit then you should also have new growth which will be your fruiting stems for next season. Leave a little bit longer just in case they are Autumn fruiting especially if you have no new growth.

    I can't get past you eating the bird beak flavoured raspberry or the fly pooey footprint blackberry. I find it hard to eat stuff outside, I have a thing about birds flying overhead and all the dust falling off their wings. I know I am strange, I'm sorry, I can't help it. Otherwise, great video.       I would prefer eat my food than shop bought or prepared not knowing what they have put on it to preserve or added when making them.

      Where do you think the store bought food you eat is grown? Home grown food is 100% better in all matters.
