  • @Vinnie-cv5qv
    @Vinnie-cv5qv Před 6 měsíci

    Every time I prune my raspberries and blackberries, rather than discarding the part I pruned off, I plop it in a pot of compost and in a few weeks I have a new plant. Also, if te cane is too long and it can touch the ground, I take the tip and bury it in the ground and hold it down with a brick or huge rock. Again, in a few weeks, the tip has grown roots. I then cut it at a good length and again have a new plant. I also make sure I cut a cane down to the ground after it fruits. It makes it easier to prune as you go along.

    Hi I enjoy watching your posts, I’m in Melbourne Australia and have grown raspberries for 15 years. I cannot remember the variety I bought as it is too long ago, I don’t prune my canes and they grow to about 7’ tall. I harvest from Nov-May/June, I find that by leaving the canes they start producing fruit very early rather than having to grow first. I harvest around 600 grams every two days, and have to admit that after a few months I get tired of harvesting so I call in family/friends to come and pick their own. I dug up a few canes last year and placed into pots as I sold my property, we are currently in Spring here and the pot of raspberries is in full fruit already and I know that when I buy my next home I will have an area for raspberries as they will slowly spread over the years.
    I commend you for your enthusiasm and generosity of time as you regularly post and wish you abundant harvests. I too follow Back to Eden philosophy if gardening and know first hand the benefits of using arborists mulch, I always applied it as soon as it was delivered and had magnificent harvests. My soil after 9 years under my care was over a metre deep of black soil teeming with worms. I stopped having a designated compost area and just buried my kitchen scraps each day under mulch, this would be gone within a few days as the worms would make light work of the compost.

    Black and purple raspberries don’t all fruit on second year bilateral canes. Primocane purple raspberries do exist.
    It’s important to know if your raspberries are summer bearing (bilateral fruiting), everbearing (bilateral and primocane fruiting), or fall bearing (primocane fruiting).

Today I went back and took six cuttings and put them in a pot with good potting soil and used a rooting hormone. I'm hoping to produce a nice crop of fruit that I can share with my daughter who loves raspberries and blueberries. I wouldn't let her eat these berries where they are growing now because I don't know what kind of chemicals might be in the soil over the past 100+ years. They are growing all over the place.

    Very good info man. My problem, is that most of my patch came from gifted starters that I don't know their heritage.

    Great video, thanks! I’ve been winging it with my little raspberry plant. This video helped me understand more of what to do. Wish me luck! (Next…my little blueberry plant…)

    Thanks for the simple explanation of trimming black raspberries.
    I wish you would have said something about how many new canes to leave from each clump. I read somewhere to leave 3 to 4 of the healthiest canes per plant. Maybe yours is so dense that you can't distinguish individual clumps but then what about spacing?
