Stopping Skiing

- For nearly 40 years, I looked forward with great excitement to my annual skiing holiday. I was never an elegant skier but reasonably competent and very enthusiastic . In 2022 three years after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s I returned to the slopes and coped better than expected. But in 2023 I found it almost impossible to turn on any but the gentlest slope and realised it was time to call it a day. #parkinsons #skiing

I really feel for you but justo say you expressed the reluctant giving up of skiing beautifully well. I had a bad accident on the slopes a few years ago, ended up in intensive care and so decided my days were over. I felt the same but you expressed it exactly how I felt. Keep enjoying the memories!
I have never been on a skiing holiday, as I was always bad at sports and my balance isn't very good. A trip to a dry slope, my poor ability to navigate slippery surfaces and the risk of injuries were enough to convince me it was not for me. However, I have enjoyed lakes and mountain resort holidays with the likes of Inghams, Thomson and Crystal in the summer, and there were a lot of people there who were not able to ski or walk far, who enjoyed the excursions and cable car trips.
Maybe you could consider something like this where you can enjoy the scenery and the culture without the physical exertion. There is something to be said for the slow pace of life of a relaxing holiday enjoying cafe society/sunbathing/restaurants/concerts/warm swimming pool etc.
I'd be chuffed if I could ski that well! However, if you didn't enjoy it, or felt scared and kept falling over on bad days there's not a lot of point in risking an injury. However from the little I've picked up about this holiday I think your friends might very well still want your company even if you don't ski that much after this year. Just a thought.
