Many visiting teams fall into this trap especially Australia and England . They leave out proven fast bowlers in favour of unproven spinners just because it's India. Of course that policy can work on occasion. As a paceman in India you simply have to bowl fuller so bowled and lbws come into play more. To your point , it was madness that they played just a single seamer!

Bumrah was the difference from a bowling perspective, along with Ashwin. No one realistic expected England to chase that down. It's a mark of this new team that we love to dream with them, because they're capable of all kinds of things. I do hope England will reflect on their middle order and in particular how to help Joe Root find his pacing again . He used to be the master of rotating the strike, regular singles, building a patient and brilliant innings. Now he seems to come out swinging like it's his last chance saloon. If he plays his natural game he'd be dangerous in this McCullum side. As for Bairstow, I'll get kicked for this but I'd rather have Brook or Lawrence out there getting time in the crease.

Frankly, Ind is making this series closer than it should be. They had no business losing the first test after taking a huge lead, and there was no reason Eng should have even had a sniff of a chance in the 2nd test after such a big first innings lead. The Ind batting has been letting them down. If Virat and KL come back for the next test, replacing Patidar and Iyer, that will definitely help solidify the batting. Also, I genuinely thing Mukesh Kumar is useless in conditions like this. There is no conventional swing, he doesn't have the skills for reverse, no pace, and no consistency in line and length. They didn't use Siraj much in the first test either. If they don't have a seamer that they can reliably go to, might as well play a Washington Sundar, who brings depth to the batting. Right now Ind have three ducks after number 8.

Despite Bazball, England seemed resigned and played that 4th innings like a net practice. They seemed to take refuge in the fact that they are her to entertain and that stringing big partnerships to chase a target of 399 which would require application was never something they could pursue. Pope’s application where Ashwin’s bounce never merited that shot even when the line and angle was predictable, Root’s mindless slogging and Stokes’s disinterest to put in everything to get to the other end - said a lot about how England left it to luck.

Stokes is the co-GOAT skipper with Brierley Vaughan & Waugh. His knee must be looked after well to ensure he skippers until age 45. Look how Ben led 2 teens (bash & reh) & tall tom to play like spin wizards. He is still getting lots of victory juice out the Swing King Jimmy who will also play until 45. 3-2 England win series & then onto winning 5 ashes in a row. Stokes has turned average pope into a top bat. The pope of runs. Wot a skipper. Dont let him ever bowl again. As we look back at the concluded second test, which we won, I can't help but say with conviction that we won because of Bumrah. On decent wickets that call for a lot of guile and an attacking mindset from our spinners, they were found wanting. Whenever our spinners were attacked with gusto by the English batsmen, Rohit Sharma had to fall back on Bumrah to provide us the breakthroughs. Of the 40 English wickets that fell across the two tests, Bumrah has accounted for 16 wickets, a staggering 40%. Had the English batsmen played a cat and mouse game with our spinners, they would have run us even close, and not lost by 106 runs, or even pulled off an improbable win. Given this scenario at the end of two tests, I am surprised that the England team is heading off to Abu Dabhi for rest, and being with their families. I feel that you need to retain your competitive edge, battle readiness, and keep the heat of battle within you to push your opponents harder in the battles ahead. The England team, by heading off to Abu Dabhi, may just have taken their foot off the pedal. If Kohli and Rahul return for the third test, it will be a stronger Indian batting line up that the English bowlers will be up against. The decision to head off to Abu Dabhi could potentially boomerang on England.

Love hearing Athers and Nass each time
As an Indian first time in last decade I am seeing any visiting team giving us real fight in test cricket is this English team, in 2017 Aussies also gave us little fight to some extent, Although I am a big ben fan and have loved his tactics in captaincy but I think he has gone wrong a bit in batting whenever ben comes to bat he is just very slow in first 50 bowls which he faces and till that time poms are 7 and 8 down and then he suddenly goes from 1st gear to 5th gear I think he can be a bit more positive in his batting from start just liker other English batter the great man will be playing his 100th test in rajkot wish he scores runs but we win😅🇮🇳

There is a lot to ponder for team India..
    1) Batting still needs to be positive. Rohit has to come out of his shell and play a bit more aggressive. Ashwin is a far better player, he is playing a bit too defensive , i guess.
    2) Shreyas Iyer's form is crucial. He is a good player of spin, more importantly he scores runs quickely .He needs to score big .
    3) Indian batting needs to be more lethal. They could have score 450 easily in the Ist Innings. When you score runs in India, score big.
4)spinners are not bowling well . Ashwin is bowling round the wicket to the right handers straight away. He should use the rough outside the offstunps and lure the right handers to play a bit more towards covers. Moreover he can be a bit more attacking, keep close fielders.
I think he is a bit more worried about the reverse sweep.
    5) Rohit's test captaincy needs to be more attacking .Kohli brought bit more energy on the field , thats missing ..Too defensive, even when Rehan , Hartley is batting..spreading the field too much..

Indian media should learn from these legends on how to do a podcast. This is just brilliant content for a cricket geek. 3rd Test will be going to be most thrilling one as both the teams want to dominate the series. Hopefully, Rajkot's pitch won't be a rank Turner.

    • @robertcottam8824
      @robertcottam8824 Před 7 měsíci

Hmmm. Whenever has Rajcot NOT turned?
England’s spin bowlers are VERY inexperienced but I like it that Stokes has backed them all the same.
Tom Hartley looks like a proper player; Rehan Ahmad looks increasingly like a good investment… They will get better by the match.
Hopefully, Joe Root will be left to concentrate on his batting.
I reckon Rajcot could produce the best match of the series. Jimmy will be rested and fit to bowl on the first morning should England lose the toss…
But I truly feel that England should play another seamer. It seems to me that England have decided to try to ‘out-spin’ India. I don’t think they can do that. Yet. And if they don’t in the next match then the series will have gone.

Notwithstanding Pope's monumental 195 runs (failure of the 3 spinners to choke his frequent reverse sweeps), India's loss in the 1st Test was due to the utter failures of 3 batters - Gill, Iyer & Jadega. If one of them scored runs, the deficit of 28 runs were not there. A win in the 1st Test of a bilateral series is always important to carry forward the tempo in the rest of the matches.

I think England has so far done really well to always be in the game in both matches and never really let india to run away with the game despite having a very inexperienced spin attack and if Bumrah had not produced such a masterclass then perhaps they would have had a great chance to win and now the only thing they need to do is have a clear conversation with Joe Root that he does not have to play like a slogger and just bat the way he has always done.

I love Bazball style but when they talk about it, Stokes basically always says its to release how players can play without risk or fear....pretty much so they can play their own natural game.
I kind of feel like that because a lot of players in the squad are very aggressive in their play it is having a negative impact on players like Root and Bairstow. That day 4 was screaming for Root just to play his normal style, 2 days to play so plenty of time and England amongst it all really need that anchor! Even Bairstow when he has played some of his great knocks takes time to get going and then he is flying. I love seeing England go for the win, I love seeing them attack and not be afraid but if you have time and a lot of it, sometimes you need to utilise the talent you have that play more methodically at times. That is my only gripe at the moment....that and I do think Jimmy should retire, I kinda feel he is now just making it about his legacy and we are wasting time with youngster fasties who need the experience. Lets not forget how young Jimmy was coming in and how much time he got....it is too late to get them in end of their 20s....what they are doing with the spinners is brilliant but we need to do it with the quicks too!
