- A few years ago I moved to Japan- here's how!
(For clarity: I do not live there anymore, but enough people have asked to hear about my Japan experience that I'm gonna make some videos about it. This is the first of a few!)

The application process reminds me VERY much like the process of getting into veterinary school. I just got accepted and can relate to everything Star was saying (even crying finding out I got accepted).
I know it’s years too late but congratulations Star on getting in to the JET program!!
neat - I did the JET program and lived in Japan from 2014 to 2019 in Fukushima - I loved my time in Japan - but super glad I didn't get a big city, being in a tiny town was super fun and I basically got to know everyone - Curious to hear why you left after 2 years
I actually applied for JET during my senior year of college. The application process was incredible tedious and I only made it to the waiting list after the interview at the local consulate. I never got moved up, but with my current job I was able to go back to Japan for a week to visit my friend who is currently in JET. 💕 I don't think I could do JET after experiencing the process, but I'm glad I made an attempt at it.
Call that JET lag-
…I will see myself out
I hope to move to Japan for work purposes one day, so it's interesting to hear your story with this topic, Star!🌟
I first lived in China for 3 ish years. I figured I was close enough to Japan, so went for it as well. I found a nice job above Kagoshima (southern bit of Japan). Also stayed there for 3 ish years. Many foreigners I met there also were on the JET program. Good times. (I DO NOT miss the yearly two day travels to visit home. I DO miss the quality food and amazing toilets.)
I've been a nomad for a large chunk of my life. Moving is still the most stressful thing... Once I unpack it's always the best feeling of success! I guess also glad it's all finally over haha
Am i the only one that sees the comment says it got commented 6days ago?
@@Katzka2 That is what I'm saying!
@@Katzka2 I'm a time traveler.
Awesome! I’m moving and living in Japan in a couple years, after I graduate from college since I’ll be graduating from my high school this Thursday, but that won’t stop me from becoming a new hololive vtuber girl later this year when I’m in college while I head on down to the Hololive of America headquarters and register there!
It's so fascinating to hear how your time in Japan started out! Me and a number of friends are also planning to visit Japan sometime during our lives, though this will most likely happen quite a few years into the future. Moreover, we certainly aren't planning on joining the JET-programme, since we have no teaching experience whatsoever, but judging from the way it all started for you, it seems like you had lots of fun =) .
In the short time that I have been subscribed to you, you have quickly risin through the ranks to become one of my favourite storytime CZcamsrs, and this video was no exception. Just seeing a new video from you on my feed made my day better. Keep up the good work, Star! I hope you are doing great😄!
JET would be my first choice for working in Japan. Interac works if you have some basic understanding of Japanese language and culture (one to two years of Japanese from college).
Just have to be willing to work with kids and teachers. Less vacation time made visiting locations tricky.
My experience from 2015
Really cool to hear your experience with this, and looking forward to the rest of the series whenever you end up posting them!
I didn’t expect to sit through this whole video but your storytelling abilities are so good. I felt like I was there with you the whole time. I’m going to try applying for the program this year so I’m preparing myself from now!
Good luck!!
I'm excited to hear about your experience with the language
I recently discovered you when i was researching on starting a webcomic and I got to say I love your content, I even just happen to be able to afford a few things from your shop and you best believe I bought your book and I'm excited for my items to arrive.
Looking forward to more. :)
Thank you so much for that. I just got back from a three week vacation from Japan. Went to Tokyo, Yakushima, Kyoto/Osaka/Nara/Uji, Nyuto in Akita prefecture, and then Narita. OMG, I loved Japan sooo much. When I got back home I felt that I just had to go back and try to live there somehow.
I saw the JET program and though it would be a great way to move to Japan. Funny thing is that I was just laid off from my job before vacation, which wasn’t a bad thing. I had been in corporate world biotech for 25 years and do not want to do that for one more day of my life. I need experiences and I love to travel, and just can’t get over how much I love Japan.
Thanks again for your video. I am a little concerned with how competitive you said it is, but I know I can do it!
this storytime video entertained my core being
Witch Hat Atelier Yay!!😁
Congrats on getting in! I’m also heading to Japan in August with JET! 🇨🇦 ALT
You had a waiting room coordinator?! When I arrived for my interview, it was just me, another interviewee, and the security lady in the room (a very no-nonsense lady, I like her)
Ayy, storytime with star! Hope Japan moving isn't bad.(though I doubt it.
ok so funny story i was watching this and i was like, "hey that looks like witch hat atelier" and then i looked down and saw that is was, a few days ago i got the first and second from the library, but they had the whole rest of the series. then went i went to drop them off and get the other books a few days later, and they were COMPLETELY GONE D,: but ya super good books i love them also your art is soooo cutteeeeeeee keep up the awesome work!!
Heya! Sorry for not participating for a while! I was busy.
Yoo starfish vid on my birthday!! :))
Honestly from some videos ive seen I would love to visit Japan, not sure about living until I can visit though. Seems like a neat place
Bidets are so nice and darn I wish we had water fall noise in the bathroom
That all sounds so nice! I’d love to live in another country.
The anxiety pinball sound gave me anxiety just because that used to be my alarm sound.
Hope you doing good in Japan wish I could be there but don’t have money at the moment
Interesting! Also, it really made me smile hearing the Ya Boy Kongming opening in music box form in the background of this video. Also, I found 14:14 way funnier than I should have.
Wake up babe, star just posted‼️‼️
u don’t have a girl but you have a man tho :)
Extra Nice 🗾
i’m moving to japan in a few weeks
i got accepted into JET and was suppose to start summer 2022 in Kyoto (very nice placement), but I had to withdraw, they weren't happy about it. I got accepted into a Physician Assistant program, which I worked hard to get into and acceptance rates aren't high, same as med school rates. I thought about it hard, but the obvious and best the PA program. I enjoyed studying abroad in Tokyo when I an undergrad, I want to go back to Japan
did you have any teaching certificates when applying? what reasons do you think you got accepted?
@@disparoz7420 I had tefl cert. I'm also jlpt 3, I had a near 4.0 GPA during my undergrad
Shout out to all the people getting pregnant so StarFish could put food on the table during layoff
Also 9:10 this might actually helps me stop struggling when drawing fingers
Ok 👌
Kinda wish i had a teaching degree so i could try this myself
I'm pretty sure you just need any bachelor's degree, not just teaching! :v
This was my dream job growing up as a 13 year old kid. I used to be obsessed with gimmeaflakeman as he toured around japan vlogging awkwardly.
woah i guess sometimes dreams really do come true tell me where you get you luck from i could seriously use some
hi.... i just wanna ask what app do you in recording your screen and is it applicable on pc????
"Or maybe the aircon just wasn't turned on that day"
Literally. WHY do they do this 😭
How long are you staying
Feels like everyone is moving to Japan Me still lives in a dumb city 🙃
I rlly like your vids and Japan is my dream vacation 😄 Edit: also here is a joke sand is called sand because it’s between the sea and land GET IT
OLRUGGIO ??? QIFREYYY???? BLESS.
Man i wish i liked anime, ide be way better at Japanese 😅
Is Anime halal, anime is something that is adictive you can call it adictive and every anime has the same story, lets talk a bout Naruto Uzumako, Naruto Uzumaki is anime a bout life of these ninjas and every season is the same and it can be haram to watch if there are haram parts or if it moves you away from prayer so in the end if you watch it and if it does not distract you it is halal
I’m having trouble understanding what this means.
