I have used both, Insta 360 and Gopro Max and I always lean back to Max, because in my opinion Max has just better color science. Insta always looked to me just so digital and unnatural.
I've had the gopro since launch so I'll probably stick with it till the Max 2 comes out. I could jump on the Insta for the bump in clarity, but with Gopro dumping so much money into the Max 2 I'll wait for that jump in performance.
Hi guys in case it helps just so you have options: I just took a 1 hr 27 min 5.7k 360 video using my @gopro gopro max on a regular non-enduro battery. I then plugged in the usb to a battery bank ($10) and continued recording for over 4 hours until I got bored. The gopro max is surprisingly versatile for an older camera for long 360 vids. It then synced to the gopro plus cloud and I shared this 4 hour video woth my parents. I then copied it onto my oculus quest and rewatched it as if I was there. All for a used max I bought for $200

Was going to buy the X4, but although the boost in resolution is great, I was actually hoping to get an update on the low light capabilities. Considering how good the Ace pro handles low light... Maybe in the X5😅
TechRadar reports that the GoPro Hero Max 2 will be delayed to at least late Q4 2024; was disappointed that the Max 2 wasn't released late last year; I have the Max and just bought the Insta360 X4 - now I'm experimenting with it. But, for now the X4 is tops.
what a great video, yeah i want GoPro to succeed too, we need some competition for sure... oh and the Crane you say you saw - very cool bird, but not a Crane, looks more like a Heron. they are magnificent and so tall! Class dismissed 😆
You can put the new GoPro fingers from the 12 black on the max, no? Also I think the apple version of the app can compensate on the stich on the helmet. (Sorry I'm android/pc).
what kills me of gopro is how bad the software is, they have neglected the software space for too long. also the gps and all metadata is so hard to overlay. With my Max sometimes is there some otheres isnt. I had to dowlonad third party software that extracted metadata to be able to overlay it. I wish they would stop making one camera every year that hardly surpasses the previous one and focus on the 360 and software market.
After t years of zero actual innovation from GoPro on their 360 efforts, Im not sure its worth their time. They're not going to catch up, let alone surpass, the Insta360. They still haven't solved their overheating, battery life and poor UI problems, and those have existed for 8 generations of cameras at least. Sadly, the only thing keeping GoPro alive these days is brand loyalty, and thats fading as well.
I used to be a GoPro user but I agree their battery life sucks and also the software and interface is not that good. I'm super excited about getting an Insta360 x4

I have a new to me GoPro fusion.. my first camera of any kind... Apart from fusion studio do you know if a 3rd party editing software I can use?

Qoocam 3 Ultra - 8k/30, 5.7k/60, and 10 bit color. Maybe fall 2024.
Even Qoocam 3 is better in my opinion, the weak point is the app.

360 cameras are still a 1 trick pony for me. The X4 looks great but you lose resolution on the edges it seems to me.
