Restoration: Rusty Giant Advertising Flask and Clock - Old Mr. Boston

- Towering at almost two feet tall, this hunk of rusty metal began life as an advertising display and clock, shown off in bars and liquor stores in the years following the repeal of American Prohibition laws.
Heavily rusted inside and out, with a clock that was also rusted to a standstill and suffering from a broken mainspring, old Mr. Boston had probably given up all hope of ticking with life again, much less receiving a new set of clothes that garnered the looks of admiration that he was used to getting.
Watch as his old skin is abraded away, new fillers are added, his timepiece is miraculously brought back to life, and his flask home is made beautiful again.

If I may…I’d suggest a collaboration between multiple other CZcams channels. There are very respected and revered clock restorers. Something like this, it would bring viewers from multiple viewer preferred fields. You’ve done a great job and I must say I didn’t truly recognize the scope of this until you put it in to have the powder coat heat set.

I would like to have seen the inside restored, too. I mean sanded n painted. Just spayed white or something. Apart from that, it looked great.

Suggestion: It might be a good idea to start checking these old painted projects for lead paint. You might already test but don't remember seeing you test for it

Excellent job you've done on this, but I can't help thinking conservation not restoration would have been the best route for this job, it had real character in it's worn state. However you did a excellent job on the movement.

As best as I could tell. But later, I saw some that were in better original shape listed on eBay and it seems like the black might actually have been dark brown.

I saw it on Craigslist for $30 and it intrigued me - I was stunned when I saw it in person, it was a lot bigger than I expected.

Please sir I implore you to leave the patina and stop covering it up. Make it original. Literally the only thing you're supposed to do. Why yes it does make the piece look new you want it to look as it should if taken care of today. No plaster anymore please. Make it original not new
