      It depends. I’m. It ultralight hiker. I like light weight gear. However some of the cottage one pound tents have a huge problem with condensation. For me wieght is important but comfort is equally important. My tent is 3 pounds. Two years ago when I purchased it, it was extremely light weight. Now you have rents in the one pound range. Some ultra light backpackers would never carry a 3 pound Big Agnes tent. My base wieght is 12 pounds including the wieght of my backpack.I carry all the other junk that I never use, is that’s the problem.

    Consider the hornet and hornet elite 1p for strictly one person and the 2p for the possible second but frequently one person. The 1p gives you about 50% more space (compared to having two people in the 2p) with over 30” for the foot. You also save 4 or 5oz (hornet and hornet elite). The elite cost further increased with the new osmo fabric, from every review I have read is worthwhile with such a thin wall of a tent due to reduced stretch and increased durability for the weight plus fully recycled materials.
    As well, never had a flybar snap, think this is why the bar isn’t as long as could be as Nemo has this overtesting ethic and I guarantee if that were an inch longer that would break under less stress than they wanted. Love that crew and the customer service is just as good.

    I was considering getting it but honestly I hate the fact that fly doesn't go all the way to the ground but leave this huge gap (I noticed with other nemo tents as well) which means that the bathtub is taking all the rain on, and if it's raining all night, it will be wet and dripping with condensation inside straight on your gear, pad and sleeping bag, because there is no way you can stay away from this wall in such a small tent. Frankly it's a cheap way to cheat on the weight, HA! For pit's sake I rather carry 100gr more of the flysheet but stay dry. nice review though :) maybe it's good on dry American trails, but in Europe: Scandinavia or Carpathians, I think it's very annoying if not useless

    • @MyLifeOutdoors
      @MyLifeOutdoors  Před 2 lety +2

      That feature on the fly is actually designed to help with condensation by providing more ventilation. I don’t know about “dry trails” I just had it in the rainforest of the pacific north west. Rained 4 days straight (see my enchanted valley video) it did great. Had both my wife and myself in the tent with zero extra room. The tent did great. A little condensation was evident on the floor when I packed it up but nothing to cause issues. This is a great tent even in bad weather. Thanks for watching!

    • @jantomaszrogala4230
      @jantomaszrogala4230 Před 2 lety +2

      @@MyLifeOutdoors I understand, I watched your enchanted valley video, it's truly mesmerizing, good job! I guess we would have to agree what little condensation is. My experience with one layer tents: cold rain outside, warm air inside, lots of condensation on the fly, and when the rain is hard, hitting the fly, condensation rained on me like a spray, plus my hood/hat and foot of the bag all wet from wiping the fly, that was my experience for two weeks with the silnylon one layer tent, after that I said no more one layer tents and got double layer tent and I love it, no little condensation, zero condensation, inside it's dry like cracker dust even during heavy rains :)

    I've got on pretty well with my Nemo Hornet 2p as a single person tent in fair weather. It was, however, a bit small when wild camping one weekend with my wife and Springer Spaniel in the Yorkshire Dales. Love the double door design, but the zip broke on one of them.
    I now prefer my Dan Durson X-Mid 1p for all long distance wild camping thru-hikes in UK, except for when the weather is really bad, in which case I use the Hilleberg Akto.

    They say large enough for two but a palace for one! Lol..Question: Have you ever had water leak in on the head end where the rainfly doesn't fully cover the tent body? Near the bottom. I have read some people have had that happen with their nemo hornet and dragon fly tents. Rain splash eventually leaking through the tent body.? Not a deal breaker really cause you could always DWR coat the exposed section yourself. I also think they did that to the rain fly to help save on weight.? I do know i would be bummed out if that did happened especially for what it costs for this tent. Awesome tent otherwise! Great review man! Stay safe! Hike on!!

      A lot of people hate on the cut out but I’ve never had a problem with it. The Nemo does have some problems with splash back but it’s on the sides where the mesh comes down low. And any tent with low mesh will have that problem. Thanks for watching

      I have been more than pleased with this tents rain performance. The rain fly cut out you are asking about is intended to give better ventilation to help with condensation in the tent. And it seems to work well. Only a little condensation in a recent trip with 4 days of constant rain, (check out my Olympic NP video) and if you go see my four pass loop video I had 3 nights of heavy rain and some fairly intense hail. The Hornet Elite did great! Hope this helps

    For $500.00 you could of gotten a cuben fiber tent in the pound category from several different cottage industries. Tents for 2 people are always good for one. Tents in the 4 person rating are good for 2 folks. What ever the person amount is divide it by 2. Can't beat MSR Ground hogs for tent stakes , I always replace the stakes that comes with a tent.

      I disagree!
      I don't think for hiking and backpacking it is ever necessary to carry a 4 man tent!
      That is just HUUUGE an bulky!
      Look man if you are car camping that is a whooole different kettle of fish, in which case I wouldn't even bother with the Nemo or any UL tent.
      So for a two person tent, AT THE MOST, I might go for a 3 person tent!!
      That is more than enough to give elbow space and a bit of room for geer inside if needed.
      But frankly I've seen a couple of 2 p tents that are sufficient and you don't need to go beyond that!
      Again we are talking HIKING. Not car camping.
