2. Newbie (But know how to play): Know how to use focused move and bombs, but still a beginner
3. Experienced: have a good agility in some normal level attacks, know how to use bomb in a certain situation
4. Expert: Gain access to the extra stage, gets usual to some difficult attacks and spell cards.
5. LunaPlayer: Lunatic Player, Gets usual to play in lunatic modo.
6. Extra Stage Lovers: Beats extra stages numerous times, don't have any problem with extra bosses' final spell cards.
7. Pacifist (a.k.a masochist, a.k.a. time out lovers): the next level of craziness, no attacking, no bombing, just let the time run out.

We can further classify these players by HOW they play the game. Those who play touhou on:
1. A keyboard.
2. Conventional joypad/joystick/ gamepad controller.
3. Specialized controller (DDR Pad, guitar hero contoller, Wii balance board, etc.)
4 .Playing with the onscreen keyboard
These were ranked from easy to those who may have passed to the realm of legends.
Then there are those who can do a pacifist No Hit Lunatic LoLK run, using the Kinect. Some say there's a special place in Gensokyo for those who can do that.
Curious Learner that's insane 😀, maybe I should make a part 2 of this
Pretty subjective to put keyboard at #1.
What about playing with mouse cursor? I dunno...can it be done?
I should say the controller is by far easiest. I play with leik a controller and a keyboard :D
I've actually played the DDC demo with an analog stick of a gamepad, with moderate success. The ability to go more than 8 directions is fairly freeing.
What about those so-called divine players who doesn't need physical form in order to play at highest difficulty
Kim Cringson Hey, nice username! Didn't expect to see a Fripp fan in a Touhou video...

I feel like I was between numbers 3-4 for a long time but I don't play as often as I used to so I probably am 2-3 now xD I used to beat normal difficulty runs pretty consictently and I beat Th08's Extra and was pretty close in 6 and 7 (I believe I also beat Th10's Extra but I definitely exploited Marisa Shot Type-B's bug xD). I failed at completing Th15 in normal mode, I tried to beat Junkos last spell for over an hour and gave up. I'm not as patient as I was, anymore u__u
I feel you there. A long time ago, I could 1cc hard modes for 6-8 and 10-11. Now, I just booted up TH16, and got my first game over on stage 2...on easy mode.

@@witchluisamultifandom1212 Marisa is not beginner friendly , her speed is almost a detriment and you need to stay below the boss to do stuff , which may be hard for a new player
@@olixx1213 Yes. Of course. She is certainly harder to use than Reimu in 4-8. I interpreted your reply as "not bad in general"

I like to think some old-fashioned and/or particularly powerful youkai actually take offense when you don't fight back, so they shoot even harder than normal as a way to express their outrage at you rudeness (or mocking your pacifism).
That's why some spellcards come with Bad Times if you try to time-out.
I'm between the 2nd one and the 3rd one
So uhh...

I'm between 1-2
Types of Touhou players (assuming their play in a 1cc Normal run):
Newbies:
1: Super Noob: “Wait hold on how the heck to I OH MY GOD HOW DO I DODGE EVERY-JESUSTHERESSOMUCHSHITAAAAAAAAAA” (Will usually not make it past stage 1 in most circumstances.)
2: Standard Newbie: “Oh okay there’s a girl on my screen and WHOA she’s doing a lot of stuff!” (Will struggle at Stage 1 and/or Stage 2, usually will not make it far into Stage 3.)
3. Arrogant Noob: “Dude, Easy is SOOO easy! Bring on Lunatic!” *5 minutes later... “WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT FUCK!” (You can probably guess...)
Average:
4. Average Gamer: Will usually be walled somewhere between mid Stage 3 to Stage 4 boss.
Experienced:
5. Casual: Can consistently get to Stage 4, Stage 5, or Stage 6 without too many problems mid-game, and can also make decent headway into Stage 2 on Hard/Lunatic.
6. Experienced Casual: Can usually make it to Stage 6 or even beat the game. Also typically is walled in Stage 3 on Hard/Lunatic and/or halfway through Extra.
Pro:
7. Gensokyoan: Can beat the game with little to no problems. Can typically 1cc Lunatic.
8. Scorerunners: Speaks for itself, really...
Sub-types:
Stubborn: Avoids using bombs even when panicking.
Graze Whore: Takes most/any chances to amass a large graze count.
Pacifist: Never shoots at anything. Every attack is a timeout. Welcome to Hell.
I'm about a 6.5 I've 1cc normal a few time but I've beated yukari captureing 9/12 spell cards
i'm pretty average. i have some easy 1cc's, lots of stage 5-6 normal's, and have gotten stage 2-3 hard & lunatic runs on occasion

How about Journalists, Perfectionists and Speedrunners?
Disappointed you didn't put GeNgEtSu RaEp TiEm in the Pacifist section. Would have made a perfect example.
The only clear of that I've ever seen was Jaimers doing it with tool assist to lower the framerate. It might not be possible for mere mortals.
I'm not certain how I'd rate myself. I haven't beaten a full game yet, but I prefer suffering through lunatic over and over again.
What I've been doing lately is playing some games in lunatic by seeing how far I can go through in lunatic with all my continues, and than I like to go back, and try to go back and see if I can get too a perfect run as much as possible on individual stages. repeatedly.
So somewhere... mediocre...maybe. Hopefully, I'm slowly getting good.
So far i can get to alice in PCB on my last life before using a continue.
*and then proceeds to waste the entire 1 continue on alice's stage.*
*_and another 2 continues to finish the prismriver sisters_*
And with the last life of the last continue, i face Yuyuko.
*and died on the first nonspell.*
I've normally had a very similar experience. (Though I've recently beat Yuyuko in Perfect Cherry Blossom before my last continue was used up.)

The type that plays Undertale
Jonathan Glenn And the type who can't get over insulting people for something that has litteraly nothing to do with Touhou.
Jonathan Glenn I still don’t get this whole “If you play Undertale, you must really suck at Touhou” thing. I play Undertale, and I’m about at number 3 here. Sure, I’m not that good, but at least I’m better than this stereotype suggests, which would probably be number 1. FYI, I’ve No Hit about half of the bosses in Undertale, and for a normal run, I find it boringly easy without adding special challenge conditions.
People not getting mild roasting. Come on guys, lighten up.

I think I can consider myself between experienced and expert although I hadn't completed any Extra stages successfully. I did finish lots of Danmaku fangames on Normal mode. Recently I 1cc d Mystical Square which was very difficult and took me a few days. PC98 Touhous were hard af especially Touhou 2

It lacks the LNN players and the scorer players to truly be accurate. Btw really love how the Luna Player showcase some nice and easy streaming sessions and how the three extra last spells are known to be relatively easy xD (where is PWG or PDH or Raiko’s final lol ?)
The first one...good old days...where I dont know there is a Focus option for the first few months~
When the screen is filled with bullets, remember: If there's a hole, there's a way.
the membrane player: constantly dies from ramming into bullets unintentionally
Not shooting but using bombs (beginner stage of being masochist)
Not moving every few seconds consecutively for x seconds (is it possible?)
You're missing one of the most insane groups of players: the scorers
I am a mix between 4 and 6. Unlocked every extra except SA and PoFV, and finished the extra stages of EoSD, IN, Mof and HSiFS. And I mostly play and beat extra stages of those mentioned above over and over (especially HSiFS because of the music). Lately I've been trying to play on lunatic, but just like I said, trying.
I am definitely the second type. Funny that you'd show the very fight I'm stuck on for that part.
This is insane!
I've unlocked extra in some games but not others and the best I've done in any extra was maybe 2nd spellcard of the boss on most successful runs, so based on description, I'd be like 3.5, but based on the video, I'm more consistent with a 2.
Im more along the lines of an experienced player and i still have trouble with Kanako's final spell card on easy
i'd say im a mixture of 2 and 3, yes my first game was 10.5 but i'd like to say my first one was pcb.
when i play pcb, i do sometimes accidentally run into bullets, but i'm learning how to stream, and that staying still is very good at times and i also bomb if i feel like i cant dodge an attack (i may have deathbombed a few times by chance ahaha).
edit: didnt know i commented on this, dont remember watching it lol.
i'd still say im a mixture of 2 and 3, and i have deathbombed.
i also dont run into bullets too often now, i have actually gotten to yuyuko once, but i died.
This pacifist looks reasonable compared to any who try to go after Gengetsu
Hmm I guess I've been on category 2 for almost 10 years now. I've been playing Touhou since 2009 but I still suck at it but I do know how to play it.
I used to be somewhere between 3 and 4. 1cc’d EoSD on normal and Imperishable on hard. But that was 6 or 7 years ago and I haven’t really played any bullet hell games since then. Nowadays I’m probably closer to a 2.
Finally, a none dead video by him
I feel like, after a couple years of on and off playing, I've finally managed to get to Experienced. At the point where I can 1cc some of the touhou games on normal, and have trouble even clearing normal on others *coughs#11cough*. Also, when I say on and off playing, I mean, like, I'll play at least 30 minutes every day for a week or two, and then won't play again for a couple months, so don't worry noobs. If you can put in more effort than I did, you can probably clear Touhou on normal in a couple months.
Somewhere between 4-5...
Im the newbie ( but know how to play)
me too
Do I count as 3 when i can 1CC Touhou 8??? Like, mostly professionally? On normal mode?
I just started playing Touhou (3 days ago) I Play mostly on normal, when i want to actually progress in the story i play on easy lmao and when I don't give a damn hard and lunatic. I Mainly play Touhou 6 and Taisei(fangame)
I'm definitely extra lover, I beated Flandre, Ran, Mokou, Suwako, Koishi, Okina and Saki, and I'm currently doing Mamizou and Hecatia
You should have called the extra stage lovers the E X T R A T H I C C people
The thing about touhou: Every spellcard has a 3-5 movement cheese
I think I’m somewhere around 3 here. I’ve 1cced all games on Easy, aside from LoLK (Hardest Easy Mode ever, lol.), and have 3 Normal 1ccs (PCB, IN, and MoF). I may go after TD Normal soon, because people say it’s one of the easier Normals.
I was used to play play touhou games but after Luna night released I only played that, like always, in every second
Despair sign "After two years of playing, I proudly become a newbie but know how to play" (not even passed all easy mode except Okina's EX).
inbetween newbie and experienced you forgot 2.5 : those who try to 1cc by optimizing how many deaths to occur and to efficiently convert bombs as lifeline (me, but always failed, still ): )
Thanks for making this video, it was fun to watch!
Though (slight nitpick) ...I'm not entirely sure the gameplay for each level matches up with the description for each level.
source: has beaten 2 extra stages and still struggles to beat Youmu's helix nonspells on easy mode
i'm not sure what that says about my skill level
(Also not sure what the difference between Expert and Extra Stage Lovers is, since the Expert footage seems to be showing a no-bomb run of an expert stage.)
from trying to get people into Touhou i've seen that the biggest newbs fly across the whole screen to avoid the position based bullets.
I didn't realised that focus existed for a month when i played
What about "Looks for a blind spot and doesn't bother dodging, as they are fighting Yukari"?

Man, I 1cc all modern Touhou game with the exception of 15 and 12. But I never even once cleared an extra stage.... Feels bad man, its so slow advancing between experienced and expert.
Pacifist runners always fail thanks to the stg6's last spell card
This doesn't relate to the video topic, but at around 2:11 you hear Youmu's theme. When it switches suddenly to Kanako's theme, it reminds me how much better the music keeps getting. Just sayin
I'd say im very experienced and somewhat of an expert on certain spell cards/stages.
are extra stages basically like the dream bosses from hollow knight? Jank mechanics, weird stuff like rng, all that?
No. Extra stage is somewhere between Hard and Lunatic in terms of difficulty, but the bosses sometimes have more unorthodox bullet patterns, although not as weird as the dream warriors compared to regular HK bosses.
I range between Expert and LunaPlayer.
Although it's been long since I've last played, it probably falls under Experienced with muscle memory.
I was all ticked off last night because i couldn't get HSI4S to play at 60fps, this makes me feel better.
Stuck bettween 2 and 3 and i can beat extra beside last spell card in touhou 10 extra is the easist i have ever seen
Experts like me don't play 16th Extra with Reimu, hah...
Play with the stron9est one of course
You forgot the one that when it get killed uses all of him bombs and the cycle starts again
I read the title as “1 types of Touhou player”
Somewhere between 2 and 3....
You forgot me, the guy who plays without sfx and just the music
Wow, he must really be a newbie if he didn't misdirect youmu's nonspells there. But I think the experienced guy should have known about it.
How do you find video for Pacifist player?
Alvin Aulia Havas All the videos here are made by myself. This is all my playthrough. check my channel for some pacifist attempts, but unfortunately, that's not a good quality videos bcause my computer is low specs.
You can watch other channel doing pacifist better than me out there.
In regards to everything above the two newbie levels; is it possible to learn this power?
according to this, despite having been a touhou player for probably over 5 years by this point, i'm not even experienced yet
like, i'm probably somewhere between "Newbie (But know how to play)" and "Experienced" according to this
I was an expert player one year ago but a few days ago I played touhou and I noticed im an experianced player, short of all 3.
number 8.music room lover
Knowing that i passed from the first type to the second.... Well, it’s better than never playing, i guess.
To me it differs a lot per game:
Eosd: hard to say since i dont play that one anymore but id say between 3 and 4
Pcb: 5 definitely its the first lunatic ive cleared
In: hmm also hard to say differs per day, sometimes i own lunatic sometimes i just suck on normal but i love lunatic so i guess ill say 5 again
Pofv: 5 i love pofv so much i usually just do match mode on lunatic, tip: use aya the bots seem to have trouble with aimed shots
Mof: 5 as well even without marisa b's broken laser im also practicing timing out perfect vowg on lunatic, already did it on hard got really close on lunatic. EDIT: I DID IT ON LUNATIC NOW
Sa: also depends on the day i love the extra stage but lunatic is still difficult for me id say somewhere between 4 and 6
Ufo: DEFINITELY 4 okay i have trouble with even hard mode and only cleared the extra stage ONCE and there are people who perfect lunatic i always know what to do its just really difficult
Td: handsdown 5 i love td lunatic its not easy tho but its not ridiculously hard either, tip: play spell practice on lunatic and fool around seriously ever sincevi did that i nailed lunatic
Ddc: hard to say i can do lunatic with either reimu a or sakuya a but the game crashes after benben's second spell luckily that doesn't happen with marisa b and besides i love the extra stage so why did i doubt at all im 6
Lolk: uhm... Hard to say again it seems i still have trouble playing on normal but i am a scorerunner for easy mode soooooo that makes me kind of a pacifist since thats needed to score and the extra stage? Only cleared once... I think ill say 3
Hsifs: well so far i only did easy and lunatic and almost cleared lunatic till i got hit at the last attack and game overed i dont know this one is really hard to say i think ill say 4
Also as pacifier goes i almost have timed out all attacks on lunatic except the whole eosd cast and every final attack (those attacks are just difficult)
you forgot to mention score players the ultimate gigachads
I have beaten almost all games on hard mode (12 and 15 harder than eosd lunatic, didn't yet play 13 and 17) and 3 games on lunatic: PCB, HSiFS and recently MoF. I would consider myself between experienced and expert
I really watched this for ten minutes and there wasn't even an explosion ending?
I went through all of this but it was somewhat different.
1. I knew about focus and bombs but started from Touhou 1-3.
2. By Touhou 4 I already was able to 1cc early games without focus. Is focus really useful?
3. Yes, it is.
4. Time to unlock Phantasm and to meet Yukari first time.
5. Pointdevice Mode? No, I want to play like usually... Few weeks later... No Miss was achieved, but at what cost?
6. First Lunatics 1cc were achieved and Extra stages become cakewalk. Well, still a lot to learn.
7. I knew I will try this one day.
When I just started I used to look at meilings fight on easy and go how do I dodge that
how is extra stage lover higher than lunatic player ?
there is no way i am beating a touhou game 1cc lunatic, but can beat every extra stage without any problems (except hecatia, i only have beaten her once.)
