Attempting to Complete a Touhou Game without Grazing a Single Bullet!

- I decided to see if it was possible to finish a Touhou game without grazing, and this is the result. Here I'll be going through some of the practice, as well as strategies I used. Was it hard? Was it easy? Will I ever try another? Yes! No! Maybe so!

i'd like to point out that he's the only one to do eosd no graze and had to route on his own
i won't bother attempting this for lls but i assume that game would be possible cause it has easy patterns, gives 9 bombs in total without dying and the game ends after stage 5 on easy
sounds like a horribly stressful way to waste my time. and im into that
Update: im using reimu A and marisa and yuuka are both bitches but stage 1-3 generally have no real hiccups
@@lazersfixall3939 marisa A is better cause she deals the most damage especially when pointblanking and reimu is a more consistent boss than marisa

This just sounds like having a large hitbox with extra steps
Basically, Sukuna used "you grow bigger" and teleported you to EoSD.
I've always liked learning about the ways players create and plan their routes to complete certain runs, especially score runs. This is the first time I've heard of a "no graze" run and didn't even know it was even possible. It was cool to see the different tricks you utilized to complete your run. The tactical deaths to refill your bombs is something that I never would have thought of! You did a great job with this video and its been fun watching your improvement on progressing though these games!
You really wouldn’t have thought of that? I thought of it as soon as I read the title and I’ve only played this game for like a couple of weeks.
@@Ohrami Well, I have seen some score runners do this trick before to quickly refill their bombs so that they could take advantage of certain stages and gain more score, but I thought that it would be extremely risky in a "no graze" run since some enemies do give graze when you approach them. I guess with EoSD, the fairies don't give graze if you run into them so it could be used as a legitimate tactic, but I was surprised since I originally assumed that it was like the other games.
As a person who never finished EOSD on difficulty higher than Easy without CCing I can't put into words how impressive this entire process is

Meanwhile I forget I have bombs because I use them exclusively for death-bombing
I guess I'm finally not new anymore.
I am a newbie and I am just way to often randomly touching bullets
I mostly stick to vertical bottom of the screen
Anyways I'm just gonna say. But I only use bombs in a pure panic or I have no idea what's going on.

I wonder if Touhou 17 might also be possible this way? I imagine otter hypers + bombs can skip a lot of tricky patterns.
Without putting the time into it, I assumed outside of EoSD, IN and maybe PCB because of the increased starting lives that maybe only TD (only because of it's reputation for easier patterns so less dense overall) would be doable. Since learning that MoF doesn't count graze at all, it's technically always a No Graze run. I didn't think about WBaWC's Otter abilities so it might be No Grazable
i imagine th17 would be rng heavy because you have to chase the spirits around. if you don't get the correct spirit at the right time you might have to reset (of course, not factoring in bombs yet)
also, could this work for touhou 16? spring subseason has more or less a full screen clear at max. also aya and cirno have long lasting bombs iirc. the only problem is lives.
@@nazumi012 One of the main problems with this is that one of the two main sources of season items is grazing. Also the final spell would be near impossible as bombs don't damage it and you are set to technically 0 power and have your subseason removed for it
@@illusionblossom7853 oh right, the final spell. i was under the impression all the later touhou games' final spells dont have invincibility. not to mention no release. th16 seems impossible then.

Finding a Touhou video in this style gives my brain a real nice serotonin boost.

I can't believe you got me enthralled in 23 minutes of this. No graze run is a novel idea and it was nice to see your process. Showing an actual full replay where you succeed would be nice though, as this just looks like piecing it together step by step.
I'll say one thing, I thoroughly disagree with it not "looking impressive". sure the bomb spam isn't as much, but those wide dodges are practically avoiding half the bullets acting like Utsuho's suns. Massive invisible hit boxes you're forced to avoid. Fingers crossed for the future cause I'd love to see how this looks in PCB. ESPECIALLY if it includes Yuyuko

The crashing into enemies is a really good idea that didnt cross my mind. Also a fun idea would be how low is the theorical minimum score possible in a 1CC, because that would require not picking up power or scoring and shooting down the minimum amount of enemies

Always appreciate challenge runs. They require a lot of effort both as a video maker and a game player.
Attempting them always makes me realize that every time and humbles me. I'll stick to my lame bomb spam 1cc runs.

if you ever do try this again, maybe you could make a reskin patch that shows the graze hitbox? it doesn’t really matter though since i don’t think it’ll be possible to squeeze through them anyways.

I remember watching a 9-graze run of Ten Desires (almost 2/3 of which came from Newborn Divine Spirit), with the annotations predicting that EoSD could only be done with 100-150 graze.
I have been wondering if anyone has done a no graze run, then this video just popped up. Well done!

the practice patch really makes the games so much more accessible and easy to practice. I wholeheartedly recommend it to any new players. I went from someone struggling to 1cc normals to 1ccing hards and beating Extras.
Honestly this video is really cool. I don't play Touhou or know very much about it but it's always interested me however when I played my first game (EoSD) I didn't end up having as much fun as I thought I would but even despite that it's still cool to see videos like these going over these games because there still really good games even if I didn't enjoy one personally (Maybe I should try another any suggestions?)

Mountain of Faith is certainly possible thanks to the power glitch with Marisa.
It might be tricky to maintain with some stages, but being able to clobber enemy clusters intended to flood the screen would cut back significantly on resets and the RNG involved.

Wait, that option exists? And here I'm torturing myself with having 0 extra lives at the start
if you were starting with 0 extra lives then you would've had to find the setting and change it to 0, I'm pretty sure the default is 2-3 extra lives

Interesting video, so EoSD and IN is possible to 0 graze, how about MoF, abusing Marisa's bug to kill the enemy faster could probably work out?(although no way to know if you actually graze a bullet)
and for the other game, I doubt that LoLK could even no graze the first stage, Seiran danmaku are a lot even on easy difficulty, don't even think to clear LoLK within 3k graze(one of Doremy's spell card can pretty much give you ~800 graze per cycle, not even trying to add on Sagume, Clownpiece and Junko)
