    The original singer, Jessica Darrow, released a jazz version of the song, with her singing live and a friend playing bass fiddle. It shows her vocal talents even MORE when she's not trying to stay in the Luisa character.

      Luisa isn’t supposed to be a great singer. Ms. Darrow’s performance here showcases her acting talent as much as her singing talent in my opinion. I’m sure if she sang this song purely as great music she’d be impressive.

    When you'll watch the whole movie, you'll see every song "in context"... And you'll realise HOW FU**ING PROFOUND this movie is. I watched it a few times already, and, as a clinical Psychologist, EVERY TIME I discover new levels of depth and meaning in it. There is SO MUCH.

      @Davide Baroni Doc, Thanks for that, I'll definitely rewatch it many more times. May I ask how a clinical psychologist is different from a psychiatrist? Can't find a good answer on google.

    • @DavideBaroni
      @DavideBaroni Před 2 lety +5

      @@csgoark2521 At least here in Italy, a psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor with a specific post graduate formation in psychiatry. He can deal with psychotropic drugs and has a MEDICINE based formation. A psychologist, meanwhile, is NOT a Medical Doctor, can't deal with psychotropic drugs, has a Psychology degree, which some consider "philosophy-based formation", that may have different specialisations... Work Psychology, Sport Psychology, Social Psychology, and of course Clinical Psychology. The latter usually leads to a post-graduate Psychotherapy School which lasts AT LEAST 4 years. BTW, please don't confuse Psychology/Psychotherapy with Psychoanalysis. Or better said, psychoanalysis is just ONE of the many different psychotherapy "schools", based in what's called "psychodynamic model". Not my cup of tea, though. The models I mainly refer to are others... It's complicated :-D . We do NOT have a formation based on Medicine. Psychology studies and elaborates "models" of how the human mind (or should I say "brain"? "Perception"? "Maps of the World"? [fill the blank]?) works... Luckily, with the advent of Neuro-sciences and neuro-imaging, Psychology is becoming more "scientific". But we act through the "inner representations" of people, and can't mess with them by using drugs.
      I hope I answered your question. :-)

    • @DavideBaroni
      @DavideBaroni Před 2 lety +5

      @@Polyglot_English Do you mean a video about how profound this movie is? There are PLENTY already. Psychotherapists analysing many many different aspects of the movie from a Psychologic viewpoint, for example. There's a lot of them. To me, the most evident aspect is what's called "generational trauma", but there's also a lot about the burden of expectations, the destructive power of "secrets", the importance of accepting, understanding, allowing and recognise one's emotion and how fucking BAD it is to deny them, the theme of being "of service" and end up putting oneself low in importance, the theme of self-worth, the theme of "recognition" and "apologise" and "forgiving" in many viewpoints and aspects, the theme of imposition (Abuela imposing her "vision" of the family and of life itself on EVERYBODY in the family Madrigal, for example... and all of them accepting it), the theme of "people blaming you for seeing and saying things that are actually obvious, but being unpleasant they don't want to know they'll happen" (Bruno), and much more... And also a different metaphoric level, in which you could read the whole family as a single "person", all the members of the family as the "parts" of the person's mind, with its inner conflicts and relationship with the other parts. And the final healing... Which, BTW, causes the break in mountains around Encanto, making the whole movie a perfect metaphor of a post traumatic grief: when Abuelo Pedro dies, Abuela's pain and trauma causes the mountains to rise and close Encanto away from any other influence. That's a normal situation after a huge trauma: the traumatised person "seals herself out", isolates from the external world, and there grieves and mourns... Often creating a surrogate world, sometimes a "perfect" world, where the person can recover and heal. BUT, if the grief is not completed, like in this case, the person ends up closed in a world that's not real, that doesn't communicate with the external world... with Life and Reality. Only with recognition, acceptance, assuming responsibility, allowing the pain to surface and pass through you, sincere apology, and then reframing the experiences so that they get a new meaning (what Mirabel does after Abuela tells her the TRUE story of how the Miracle came into existence), and full forgiveness of oneself and others, can the trauma be overcome... and can the person reopen to the world, and recover a contact. Open a possibility. :-)
      We could go on and on forever... :-D
      I hope I made my point.
      But no, I won't make a video about this. Thanks for the idea, but it's not my cup of tea. :-)
      Maybe Bruna could. ;-)

      I've seen three kind of reactors to this song: those who focus on the beat, and Jessica's voice, and Lin-Manuel's lyrics, etc.; those who go deeper in the meaning of the song and make some commentary on what's going on with Luisa; and those who relate deeply with the situation. And this is the key line that separate the latter from any former.
      It was not my case, but I can see how it hits hard on people who relate.

    this song always makes me cry. Why? Because I can relate. True I'm younger sister but older one has her own family and lives aboard. Five years after she went away dad was diagnosied with cancer and it paralysed him (I was just 14), gave up everything but classes to come home and take care of dad so that mum could keep her work. Unfortunately he died :( three years later mum was diagnosed with bones cancer. I didn't go to college but to work....pressure is only keep growing. Can't show what I'm really feeling because I must be tough, when my sis is calling asking if everything is OK I say 'yeah, everything is fine, mum is fine, what could be not fine'. Right now the pressure is large that I sometimes hide and cry when I can't anymore, then wash my tears away and going back to pretending 'everything is fine' and that I'm managing that

      My advice. Don't hide it. Don't bottle it up. Be open and honest. If your sister calls asking if everything is okay, say "Well, not really. Mom has bone cancer. I realize you're too far away to help but I'm trying to help her as best as I can. " Be open and honest wherever you can be. Yes it may hurt, and you know your sister better than I, but your sister is family and to my thinking she should both know the truth and understand your situation. How much worse would it be for your sister if you've been saying all along "'yeah, everything is fine, mum is fine, what could be not fine'." then one day you have to tell her "Actually, Mom is dead. "

      I'm so sorry you're going through that. My little sister was recently diagnosed with cancer. It's hard to watch your loved one go through that pain. I can't imagine having to go through that twice and at the same time being the sole source of income on top of that. I hope things get better for you. You should find someone you trust to vent to. Bottling things up never works out, I'm afraid.

    Luisa might just be the most relatable character Disney ever produced. She loves her family and does everything she can to keep them safe and provide for their needs but things keep piling on and piling on and the PRESSURE is starting to overwhelm her but she doesn’t want to admit she’s overwhelmed because that in her mind, would be letting down the family she loves so she plasters a smile onto her face and puts up a front of confidence so no one sees what’s going on just, UNDER THE SURFACE! That’s what the song is about.
    The part of the song that really resonated with me was the part where she has this brief little dream of how wonderful it would be to be free of all the pressure and back breaking work the boulders start coming down again and you see her looking at her sister with a defeated look and she weakly says, “And it’ll never stop.”
    That’s a soul crushing moment I think nearly anyone over the age of 30 can recognize. Going through a period of trial and stress waiting for. Things to return to normal for so long that you lose hope of it ever happening. Things will never return to “normal” this is my normal now. It’ll never stop!
