      Have you happened upon the video "how surface pressure works"? It's really cool, as they get in to the techniques Lin Manuel Miranda uses to make the song go to a completely different level. It's pretty cool to see that kind of analysis, of stressed syllables and such. It's way over my head, but needless to say, if somebody can make a rap musical about Alexander Hamilton, we shouldn't be surprised they can build a catchy pop song.

    I felt like it was interesting that she tends to use her upper range, or more feminine singing voice, when she’s saying something vulnerable in the song. So even though she’s switching from the “character” voice, it’s still telling you something about the character. It’s her softer side coming out.

    • @DarthZ01
      @DarthZ01 Před 2 lety +23

      not to mention when she sings about her desires for joy and relaxation, the background is all pink fluffy clouds and the donkeys have glittery unicorn costumes.
      what she truly wants is to be feminine and traditionally girly.
      its a great subversion. and why i get so annoyed at the twitter mob that demands her to be a trans icon just cause shes muscular. shes one of the girliest, most feminine madrigals. demanding her to be a trans man is just playing into sterotypes of her appearance.

      It could also be part of her character putting on this "strong, invulnerable" facade. She (the character) could be intentionally using a lower voice to seem stronger while the higher voice is what she considers her true voice.

    I think it has to do with the fact that she's literally breaking and becoming weak for all the weight the family and expectations are putting on her. So she's trying to be strong (the deep voice) and when she talks about it being too much and she's breaking (the lighter voice comes in plays). Vocally and metaphorically is very well displayed. Personally i think the way she goes lighter and softer on the "drip drip drip" parts shows vulnerability, she's scared and she sounds smaller and younger as she admits that the pressure is eating away at her. In fact the emotion all the way through is stunning. She gets deep when she's focusing on what she needs to do, like vocally gritting her teeth in preparation and you can actually hear her relax when she wonders what relaxing would be like.

      She also didn't get her own door because her gift was to come later snd through that, she didn't get her own room or door because she got the house, so to speak. Hence why the doorknob they gave her at the end had the M on it made specifically for her. She will take Abuela's place as the next matriarch. The house was closes to her as it was to abuela. Her not getting a door is whag allowed everything to play out exactly as it needed to inorder to wake everyone up and get Abuela to see the truth. Her "room" is actually the nursery. When new family members are born, they live in the nursery until they're old enough to earn their miracle, at which point they get their own room. As I'm sure you know by now, Mirabel doesn't have her own miracle, therefore she didn't age out of the nursery and must live in there. That's why she knew where Antonio was because he was hiding in "their" room, the nursery.

    Absolutely the BEST SONG in "Encanto." I know everyone is losing their mind over "We Don't Talk About Bruno" (which is a spectacular, more traditionally staged broadway showtune) but for my money this is the superior track. Just spectacular!!

      I really think her gift is to make the other family members realize they aren't JUST their gifts though. I do believe she will be the next matriarch like Abuela, but abuela expected perfection from their gifts, expecting them all to BE their gifts, and in mirabels case, she sees gifts as GIFTS, like extras and not just the person

    "Why does she dance so well"
    The obvious answer is because it's a musical, but
    Dance requires a lot of muscle strength to support the actions being... acted upon so it isn't far out that she has good muscle control
    It's how did she get that ~technique~ that should be questioned lol
