I have passed this so many times in the bookstore, picked it up, but never opened it, as I was too terrified of what I would find. But I am definitely going to pick this up next time I am out. I have everything I can find of Vonnegut, but this was the one thing I was worried about. Ahhhh!! How did you not get the opening line! 🤣 I was actually pleasantly surprised by how many of those questions I got right--although, the second set of questions, after just reading it for the, I don't know how many times, I feel like I cheated haha. "It is not trying to be the novel," I will definitely have to keep that in mind when I pick it up.

It's so much fun! I totally understand that fear thought! It is my absolute favorite book of all time, well... let's confirm that in April, but I didn't want to besmirch it's name. This didn't do it at all. Really enjoyed it!

I picked up the novel when I was a freshman in college. I borrowed the graphic novel two weeks ago because I didn't want to be stuck with the graphic novel if I didn't like it. I liked the graphic novel but not enough to buy it after I've read it. I tend to agree with people who prefer novels over films (I felt that way after seeing "Jurassic Park" for example) in that your imagination is being utilized in an intimate way when you're reading a book while a movie gives you the director and/or the screenwriter's interpretation while cutting out parts of the novel for time considerations. That's why I liked but didn't love George Roy Hill's cinematic adaptation of "Slaughterhouse Five." Hill removed Kurt's self-referenced statements in the film and directly made Billy the central character. That's what I feel the graphic novel writer did here. A good and brave project to be sure, but I'll always prefer the original novel. Kurt put himself into it and I'll always treasure it for that reason. "Your mileage may vary" as they say on TV...

Glad you gave it a shot. Yeah, I can understand fully what you're saying about how much creative effort is in your hands vs the director/illustrator's. I can fully agree that Kurt was a master of his craft and really created one of the greatest novels ever.

    I ordered the graphic novel
    on A Prime
so I could get it before this
and first it was due on Monday
Then they said it was delayed'
It still hasn't been physically shipped
and they are promising it for 21:00 tonight
or i get my money back.
I will have to do it was a slower but more reliable
    bookseller who pays their taxes.
Is that a good "!dog ate my homework" story?

I was about to ask how well the graphic novel dealt with the ambiguity of the actual existence of the Tralfamadorians, but Krypto answered it quite well later in the video.
I love explaining the ambiguity of this novel to people who say they didn't like it because they thought it was mediocre sci-fi. Once they see that the Tralfamadorians are possibly a figment of his imagination in order to deal with his PTSD, and then they have that "a-ha" moment, almost everyone comes around to appreciate it much more.

You could also say to your friends who are into Shakespeare, "The Tralfamadorians are like The Clowns in Shakespeare's tragedies. They help you deal with the murders and betrayals that would otherwise dominate the action that's taking place in the story." I'm not sure if Kurt ever said it in interviews but it makes sense in retrospect, at least to me...

I used to love the novel until I started reading his other work and I just can't get into Kurt Vonnegut's tongue in cheek style. He thinks he's so clever and I can't stand it. Good talk!

I respectfully disagree with the critics of this comic. It's posibly one of the worst things i've ever read. The story is boring, the narrative is confusing and the draws are mediocre at it best, like all Monteys' work, who has no style at all. This graphic novel was a total waste of time, and thankfully it was a gift for me so i didn't waste money in it.
