As a crane operator by trade, I’d say add that winch and out rigger and get ready to move the world! With a winch you’d be able to get your boom angle right and the hook right over the load and pick it straight up instead of the radius increasing as you boomed up with the load. Love the channel man. Keep it up!!

That Toyota truck is 4 wheel drive. The back 4 wheels drive the truck! These videos are literally the best part of my Mondays.
when assembling tight hinges, put them together with a bit of valve grinding compound, move till it loosens up carb cleaner,then grease.
Good advice
Be sure to check your lug nuts after picking up without an outrigger because it puts a strain on the outer wheel and could cause the lugs to come loose

Between this channel and the channel called Make it Kustom, anyone can learn to build custom cars. Such a great channel Puddin! I am so glad you are back into more of the fabrication than the will it run videos. I was in the shop welding today on a little project and ran out of welding wife halfway through and thought of you! It was 6pm and your videa was calling me to set down and have a laugh! I have been building hot rods for 40 years and I always learn stuff! My old man senses knew you were gonna get stuck the minute you took the second run at it lol
I can't wait for Carl to finish the mini Buick! They both show their mistakes a process of what they are doing and that is why they would make great teachers... And it helps that they are entertaining to watch too.

Why not do a combo of the winch and the crane? That way if the winch is acting funny you always got ole’ reliable, not to mention it could be helpful in situations presented today, might I suggest putting it onto a hitch receiver, and mount it at the base of the crane? Just an idea to get that yota 💯, love the rig, want one for myself now!

I absolutely love Puddin. Any one else in the universe would have beat, melted or submerged (in nearest lake) these pivot hinges a long time ago. But not this gentle man. With the percistance like no other he keeps working calm and rational. (well.., sort of..) and get the job done.

Awesome video! Tons of fun with that truck. You could strap a hi-lift jack to the headache rack and use it as an outrigger under the edge of the bed for the crane. Plus it will be useful for self-recovery next time you try to drive over an anthill. 😆 Though I like the “nature walk with Puddin” segment. 👍🏻

You should use the wench for the crane as a secondary lifting mechanism, that way when you have to lift a heavy load, you just have to.press a button

If all the hinges are the same, lay them out where you want them and clamp each one to the square or rectangle tubing with a piece of angle iron on one side. The V of the angle will square all of them up, but you may need to make some wooden V-blocks to keep the clamps in place and tight over each hinge!!
You should cap off that 2 x 2 square tubing you weld it on top of your truck and use it as a tank for compressed air. I’m sure you can find a place to stick a small electric compressor. Great for power tools.

Hey Puddin ! I hate to be an armchair fabricator but, been doin it for 40 years. Your crane is only using the springs on drivers side. Move it to middle back of bed and boy howdy! You got you a picken rig. I love it !

Seeing that red dirt/mud out on the farm reminds me of spending a whole afternoon digging a STUCK 750 Massey Ferguson combine out on a hillside south of Alva, OK.
My grandfather would always "enhance" everything he bought for the best use, including things like welding C clamps and channel locks to the frames for various hold-downs, etc. Yeah, the better it looks, the more worried you are about getting it dirty and scratched.

Dude. I love it. I have been looking for one forever. My first car was a 1986 Toyota truck. I was looking for brake parts and saw that they made a 1 ton. Then memories of seeing them around came flooding back. I will have one.
I think a bit of binding is really nice when your truck is not level.

I got 238k miles on my 2011 GMC sierra 4x4 work truck, being an AG mechanic as long as it does its job I don't care what it looks like, I keep it as nice as I can don't get me wrong but its a tool that's used heavily. Good on you Puddin' I thoroughly enjoy your show and sense of humor.
A word of advice: I made a super strong and big cherry picker many many years ago and I have always meant to go back and put a winch on it as well as the hydraulic long ram that is already on it. So many times that the range of motion would have been very much extended with the winch and as you say that remote is very handy when you are one manning. I would highly recommend putting yours on now while it is sitting there. You won't regret it in the future.

We use those type hinges in the commercial steel construction industry. If you look em up, each one of those hinges are rated for between 600 and 1000lbs. Good Job! They ain't gonna fail ya!

One thing to keep on the flat bed will be a farm jack. You can use that to stabilize the side when using the crane, Jack the truck up to change tires or get it unstuck. Use it to jack up junk cars when on a recovery mission.
