    I love following the project you're working on, but always cool to see the gear behind actual work too! And I'm so glad you're liking the film pouches, so cool seeing it used to separate your 35 from the 120.

    I just adore the simplicity of just the M6 with 35/50, it's all anyone would ever need really (and the camera brand is exchangeable depending on people's preferences)

      1000%! All about the simplicity and the way 35 and 50 can coexist without looking like they're coexisting. They can blend together really easily in a sequence.

      I really appreciate you saying that. It's funny, one of my best friends said something along the lines of "I was a photographer for years before I was ever an artist" and I didn't know what he really meant by that until sometime last year. I've definitely experienced a huge internal shift in the last year(s). At first, I thought maybe it was just a midlife crisis arriving early. 🤣 I've learned the more I lean into it and trust my gut, it all comes through in the process.

Yeah I have other cameras (film and digital) but I'm just stretched too thin to remember how to use it all. I love listening to John Free talk about how the F3 is his fave camera, all he uses, he does not have to think just make images, it no longer his gear it just a part of him he can just pick up and go.

    We have similar 35mm setups, Matt. I have an M5 with a 50/2 Summicron and a 35/2.8 Zeiss Biogon compact. Great lenses. I considered a Summilux once, but I wear glasses, and I don't think shooting a rangefinder in low-light works for me, so I grab an SLR with a 50/1.2 when I want that extra speed. I'm mostly shooting my little boy and documenting our lives, so this works nicely for me. Hope you all feel better soon! • @RobZeigler
      @RobZeigler Před 2 lety +8

      I'm not Matt (obviously) but having owned both I've only kept the Hasselblad and sold the Mamiya. Simple reason: I preferred the SLR experience over the rangefinder in medium format and (the big one for me) the Hasselblad is mechanical vs the Mamiya being electronic. Matt joked about his Pentax 67II being electronic on this video - he mentioned "the clock's ticking" (wink wink, nudge nudge). It's no joke. I recently sold a lot of electronic film cameras just because I didn't want to worry about them becoming expensive paperweights in the future. You really can't go wrong with either one, but the Hasselblad will probably outlive me. :)

      Thanks! I would, personally. One deal breaker to consider would be if you're interested in using separate film backs. An advantage of the RZ67, for a landscape shooter like yourself, is that you can load different film stocks, color and B&W, and swap them freely at anytime. With the 67II and it's design, you're shooting the whole roll before you can change your film stock. Some people don't mind it, but something worth considering!

Those cameras were amazing, throughly loved using them, still my favorite hybrid camera to use, but I spent too much on them to just sit unused. Thanks for the video! A question about the tripod. How stable is that with the Pentax on top on more loose surfaces, for example in sand dunes or a forest ground? I'm looking at getting a tripod, which can fit a heavier camera, like that Pentax or a lightweight LF camera (Toyo 45A at around 6 lbs), and am wondering if the Peak Design is enough, or if a more solid tripod is necessary.

    • @mattdayphoto
      @mattdayphoto  Před 2 lety +2

      Hey! The tripod is not the sturdiest tripod that I own, but it's definitely not trying to be either. It's amazing for the portability, weight, functionality and design, and in MOST cases, it's more than sturdy enough. When I use it with my Pentax 67ii, as long as I really make sure the ballhead is tightened down, it's not moving. For 4x5, I would want something bigger and sturdier, but for 67II and anything below that, it's met all of my needs. It also has a hook on the bottom to add a sandbag or weight of some kind, so that of course will help too.

    • @stynker14
      @stynker14 Před 2 lety

      as someone who is working at a camera store I can only advise you not to buy one of these tripods if you plan to do some long exposures or bigger format work. The really compact size of it is the only true point to justify the price of this tripod. It’s not sturdy compared to other models which are half the price and just a little bit taller. It is a nice tripod, if you really only got minimal space and I guess that’s not the case if you’re shooting 4x5 :)

    I always feel a little leery when CZcamsrs and podcasters shill for sponsors, but KEH is absolutely, 100% the best used photo place. I cannot imagine any similar place outperforming them. I've bought from them many times and only ever had one problem. I called, and they fixed the issue IMMEDIATELY. The guy on the phone even said, once I described the issue, "Man, that's embarrassing." I don't know if Bill Burr really likes or wears MeUndies, but I have no doubt that Matt Day feels about KEH has I do. Analogy: For people who love to drink beer, it's like being sponsored by "beer."

      People can go all the way back on my channel and see me recommending them when looking where to buy film cameras online. That was before they ever knew who the hell I was other than a name on their order sheets. 🤣 The fact that they support what I do now, especially with my current project working on a new body of work to print in book form, there are good people there. They want to do more than just buy & sell gear.

    Excellent video sir! Curious, How do you usually meter delta 3200? Thanks

    • @mattdayphoto
      @mattdayphoto  Před 2 lety +2

      Thanks! I'm usually trying to get a nice even exposure on my internal meter, with it set to 1600. Then I'm developing normally. You could do the same thing by just setting the meter to 3200 and overexposing a stop, but it's easier for my brain to just set to 1600 and try to even things out there. I tend to not use exposure compensation because it's easier for me to make those adjustments on the fly, rather than using it as an override of the meter. Also I'm using the "matrix mode" or whatever it is that averages out most of the scene. If it's a tricky condition, I might use the spot meter function. Also, I should say that I like exposing at 1600 because the shadows open up nicely but highlights tend to handle it just fine. I hope all of that jargon helps! 😅

      Silica packs might be the answer to that. In general it’s ok as long as you take it out every now and then. Otherwise the springs might get tired, lubricants will be getting sticky and so on. You don’t use it? Sell it or accept that the next time you do use it might not be in full working condition.

    • @mattdayphoto
      @mattdayphoto  Před 2 lety +1

      I've let go of my Leica SL2 system now that I've stopped shooting portraits, weddings, and corporate work. That kind of work has always been a part of my income and it's always made more sense for digital in those uses for me, but now that I no longer need that, I can stick to all film until I'm ready for a digital stills camera. Those cameras were amazing, throughly loved using them, still my favorite hybrid camera to use, but I spent too much on them to just sit unused. Happily sold them to fellow Leica shooters that were wanting to get into the system on the used market. 💫❤️

      @@mattdayphoto Thanks for taking the time to reply, Matt. That makes total sense. I have too many cameras myself, yet I find that I pretty much only use one everyday. I keep the others thinking "this one's better for things that move fast (Sony), this one's better for landscapes (X1D-II)" which is true, but I still never shoot them and somehow I manage to get by everyday with just a Leica M. I should get on it and take advantage of your +5% trade-in deal while it's being offered!
