THANK you for this video! I just bought a used i3 and so much to learn! Loving it so far! Looking forward to seeing Part 2 and 3 of your awesome video!
Thanks! I did film part 2 but feel it’s mot solid enough to publish. I’ll be refining it so it’s worth watching. I appreciate the time you took to comment. Have fun with the i3. It’s an exciting car even after my 3 years of owning it. Used of course.
Great summary. We researched for years, and decided on a used 2017 REx (first full year of bigger battery). We use EV drive 96% of mileage annually despite 24k miles/yr. Car goes 40 miles on a GALLON of gas. Car goes 40 miles on a DOLLAR of electricity. We saved over $2,000 in fuel last year (our rates near Seattle are $.10/kWh, and gasoline is $4/gal). As you stated, recoding with Bimmercode works well (we use it to turn on generator during high speed long trips).
Yeah, some stuff is a little disappointing but there were enough positives that I’m willing to deal with the drawbacks. Would be good for others to know before deciding ok the car though I’m sure. Well hopefully it’s helped a few folks. At least you know what to expect now.
@@nickr7801 sorry I had to delete it shortly after because I missing some content. The added footage ended up with a lot of wind noise so I need to redo it. I’ll have it within a week hopefully.
I'm glad I have the BEV, not the REX. I understand that the only I3s that have burned were REX equipped, the fuel line being blamed in at least one case.
Yeah super rare though and from what I’ve heard, repairs or stuff was done improperly on them. So it’s user error. Not a reason to shy away from the Rex though. If you need it, you need it.
The days of "cheap" BMW i3"s are over..In Canada at least they are in VERY high demand, and very few to go around.I paid $26500 for a 2015 in 2019 and last month I got another one and it cost me the same...Ive owned 75 cars in my life and never had I had a car that actually stayed the same after this period of time. I also noticed in the US prices are high
You're right! The car market is nuts. Not sure why so many people are buying cars all of a sudden. Surely there was a chip shortage, but I still don't see why people are still okay with buying cars so expensively.
DC fast charging was optional in 2014. Ordinary people don't have DC fast chargers at home because they are very expensive, not because all the lights in the neighborhood would go out. That's as far as I got.
Yeah, I rewatched my video and the earlier sentence I admittedly did misspeak but tried to correct myself later on. Yes, optional but became standard in 2015 and newer versions. No, level 3 charging takes a ton of "juice". Your neighbors wouldn't like it if you paid for a level 3 in your house. I don't think you'd have enough amperage on a circuit breaker to even feed that.
Damn, BMW finds a way to make everything expensive, had a seat belt assembly replaced $900, 2015 BMW i3 Rex. $55k (orig sticker) & they couldn't put a simple plastic lid on the frunk box! Refilling the gas tank on the Rex is hilarious it's so small and fills so quickly!
The Rex would function so much better if you code it to European spec. As it is once the Rex turns on it shuts off too frequently like at a light and it can't keep up with freeway driving
Technically yes, but it's not really done in the USA. It's cheaper to just buy a new car. You won't be able to expand. You'd have to buy a whole new set of cells. At $2,200 per cell x 8 plus installation, it's really not worth it.
Bro! Your videos are very hard to watch! The noise levels jump up so high that if your wearing Headphones it’s torture and that’s when I hit the next button

@@grantwes Yeah, between work and fatherhood, I can't be too picky about timing on the video. Yeah, it did suck that the wind was so strong but took forever already just to find a place with decent lighting. I had already gotten kicked out from the last place I tried to film.
Sorry - terrible audio - inaudible soft voice - followed by blasting music. I am sure the content was good but it was'nt worth staying. Please edit audio .
Hmm, might be something wrong with your device. I use the same wireless microphone on all my videos and audio seems okay on my end as I'm replaying it. There is some wind noise here and there, but nothing I can control otherwise. How is the audio on the other videos?
Excellent video!! Thank you!

Congrats. You got the best value i3 as of these past two years.
I uploaded part 2 but realized there were too many things I forgot to include. Will be re-editing and uploading in the coming days.
Loving the videos!
Thanks. I’ll keep them coming.
Thanks for all the info. All of this info would have been helpful to know before I got the car.

Is the blue accent on your side-view mirrors from the factory?
They’re vinyl wrapped by a friend of mine. Aftermarket m3 style mirrors.

@@Funcentric Well, I was sick of paying $140 to fill my challenger and I really loved the i3 so I wanted another and didnt exactly have much choice.
@@johnnyzee383 I see . Yeah, the i3 is definitely a different character than a Challenger.

It's an academic discussion because no one has DC fast charging at home
There are some accessories for the front in this car to give it a cover to make it waterproof
Waterproof door panels?
@@Funcentric I think they mean for the frunk, in order to make it waterproof
@@natalil9199 Oh! I see. I've never had a need to make the frunk/foot (front boot) waterproof.
The frunk box, I haven't seen a lid for it. I want to find a plastic box with a lid that fits that.

How much weight can it hold inside?
I don’t understand your question.
@Funcentric Sorry. I have a couple big friends. Lol. 300+ lbs. I'm 230lbs myself. Is there a weight capacity for the car? Kinda a silly question.
@@trev777 I wouldn’t know but I don’t imagine it would belge vulnerable to passenger and driver weight than any other car.

Volume between the music and the talking you mean? I'll try to make them more similar for the next ones. Thanks for the input.
