What a great thing you’re doing! I teach my MS art students how to make junk journals using repurposed materials so they learn they don’t need a lot of money to make art and a place to make their art!

Most, if not all, of these items, can be found at a local thrift store. It's hit or miss just at a dollar store but at a thrift store, you have the existential happiness of knowing you are buying things that might end up in a landfill while usually benefitting a charity and the practical happiness of knowing you are spending a little less money. I try the thrift store first but if I can't find what I need (and do I REALLY need it?), then I definitely try the dollar stores. TFS.
A tip from non-US viewers like me, please check outsome of these alternatives!
-Thrift/Second-Hand/Charity shops (my personal go-to and favourite, especially if is a charity shop and the proceeds are donated, and stuff isn't thrown away to landfill)

Wow, your Dollar Tree is stocked like crazy! Unfortunately mine isn’t. We live in the country, so we have to either go to the small towns around us which do what they can for supplies, or drive 4 hours to the biggest city to get whatever I want. I don’t get to the city very often, so I make due with my cute little shops. I’d love to be able to spend hours and hours at a fully stocked store. I’d be in Heaven!
This actually isn’t my local store and yes this one is very nice! But i bet your town is very beautiful and serene 💗 What you miss in local box stores you make up in charm!
@@karatootie , yes, our little stores are priceless. 1 battery package, 1 package of fish, 1 row of magazines. I wouldn’t want it any other way. I love the slow life and have always been a country girl even though I’ve lived in the big cities too. Nothing like living in the country in a tiny hamlet of 150-175 people.

Hi. I love Dollar Tree videos, so loved your video, too. But one tiny suggestion: please move the camera much, much slower. When you pan it up and down and right and left, it is very stomach churning! I stopped the video for a minute to get oriented again, and I'm going to go back and watch the rest if I can. Other than that, the video is great!!

Yes! I have seen some stores that are so amazing but where I live they are usually either not that clean or not well stocked. For example we JUST got the peg board system although I saw it on YT MONTHS ago! Through all of that, I still love dollar tree though! ♥️
Wonderful video! 🥰. This Dollar Tree was fantastic! The art and craft supply aisle at ours is pretty well stocked, but there were things at yours I wish they had! The bead selection was so much better! And I’ve never seen watercolors at ours either!
I saw the little silicone covers for your fingers in one shot…I have those, and they are a life saver! Well…a finger saver! Lol! I always need to hold down a piece after I glue it, and I tend to use my finger instead of a silicone tool…so having this on my pointer finger and thumb works great! 🥰

Love the idea of utilizing Dollar Tree, especially as I’m new to the junk journal trend.
Yes! It’s such a wonderful resource for beginners and experts alike! Plus you don’t have to worry about messing something up that is expensive! 💗💗💗
Best tip for new junk journalers, don’t collect too much stuff. Use what is already around the house. Buy minimally, maximize your making! Some people start out as crafters and turn into collectors/hoarders.

Ok a couple things…I make a lot of my travel journals out of bags… my AZ one I just did used on, such a great tip! paints 👎 there are several video reviews. Also…mark making tools for the win! Thank you, this is a great tip! Love the video!
Good to know about the paints! I saw a tutorial where you can add (cornstarch?) to thicken them??
Always paper tape, makeup brushes, notebooks, glues, so much i use.

When you do a composition book fir a journal. Could you show how to do the front. Do you just cut out a picture and glue it on? How do you keep it on?
I can make a video…but in the meantime, I usually add glue the the book itself and then add paper on top. I will cut around the the edges and finish it off by decorating 💗💗💗

How do you add charms to a junk journal? I use composition notebooks
There are several ways. For a composition notebook I would either hole punch the front cover and add a dangle there, or add some like a bookmark! Let me know if you’re interested and I can add it to videos to make 💗

I believe this one was in Alpharetta 💗 but all the DTs I went to there are great! I think the one in Kennesaw may have been my favorite!

The tube paints quality is not that great. The 2 best paints from dollar tree is the d.t brand of puffy paint/ fabric paint which I use on stuff besides fabric also. And the other is the Crayola brand washable paints in the smaller round containers. The rest have all been a miss 4 me due to them being very watered down. Also sometimes dollar tree has shoe polish and I have used the brown to distress my books and pages and stuff.

Be patient with me please ~ What is the purpose of a "junk journal," especially if you have to buy stuff? Doesn't seem they can be used as a writing journal - I am crafty, but confused here ```
No worries! I think that the original junk journal was using “junk” or items that you’d normally discard. There’s now a whole community of people that use it more as either an art or writing (or both) journal, a little more like a commonplace book. There are also people that use it as a collage book. Junk Journal is more of a broad term. Maybe kind of like self-care, that can mean many different things to different people. Take a look at my page for some ideas of how I use them. I also have a video named Jink Journals 101 that may be helpful 💗 But either way a lot of the items I’m showing from dt are great for other crafts for sure!! 💗
I buy very very little art or "construction" supplies for my junk journals, relying on true recyclable as well as non-recycleable junk (like plastic fruit nets and mylar) and "trash" (like junk mail & envelopes, bags, books & magazines). I make lots of them for kids with prompting questions for them to draw pictures, tell stories, list family/pets/friends and favorite things. Perfect for rainy days, they're also helpful in skills development (organization, critical thinking, problem/puzzle solving & communication) in a fun way, and to engage them in causes such as environmental protection (lands, waters & and animals) or pets protection. I sell them in unusual places! 😉

don't buy paint at DOLLAR TREE. THEY'RE BEUTIFUL IN THE BOTTLE, BUT HAVE VERY LITTLE PIGMENT. THEY WORK AS A GLAZE, BUT NOT FOR PAINTING.

I think so. I recently used one of the DT stencils using distress stains on a dt junk journal (video is on my channel) and I love the look! 💗
