gotta love how hbo sets up the whole boxing drama. to the lil beefs between certain fighters, the background documentries, and the commentary from the commentors!
Floyd Mayweather Sr. trained Floyd to have a great work ethic and how to become a great defensive fighter. Roger Mayweather trained Floyd how to become a great offensive fighter. Now what we got is a special all-around fighter who has dedicated his whole life to his craft and is the greatest fighter in the world. 42-0 with 26 KO and still going.
Man he was such a best at 130. He literally dominated EVERYBODY at that weight. Genero Hernandez, Angel Manfredy, Diego Corrales, wasn't nobody touching him back then!
2:12 - 2:37 was funny! Floyd Sr saying Floyd should be defensive, but Roger is right, defense wins fights but not without offense! He was exciting back then!
@leavantgarage another subjective one, if Pernell and Floyd fought prime for prime you could go back and forth all night long on who wins and why. pros and cons to two very gifted fighters.
Dude, what the heck are you talking about Pacquiao had never fought at welterweight. He had just fought De La Hoya at welterweight in 2008 a year earlier, a weight class De La Hoya hadn't fought in almost a decade.
Larry Merchant's speech from 4:29 - 5:35 can b said now except u can replace Corrales with Pacquiao. The last time people doubted Floyd a brilliant seemingly indestructable puncher (COrrales) got taken apartby Floyd. It's funny how history has a way of repeating itself.
He fought 43 in 16 years, from 2002 no more than two a year, lot less later. I must admit he has a solid rock discipline, know who can beat, never go in wars. I would love to see his career taking guys always at best as Delahoya did: Mosley, Trinidad, Hopkins, Quartey, Whitaker, Chavez, etc. I'm sure he'll wait other 2 or 3 years until pac is shot than boxing him as Leonard did with hagler then claiming his better than robinson or ali. If I box Jake LaMotta now I'll probably win too.
Tainted how? Corrales had victories over top tier 130lb opposition. Casamayor, Gainer, Jukko, Manfredy and Roberto Garcia to name a few. Him fighting Floyd at 135 would've been no different.
What the fuck, Alex Ariza said Corrales is 6ft1 and then in the tale of the tape it says 6 ft then in the Castillo fight it lists him as 5 ft 10 and a half
Wow. Compare the older Mayweathers' speech to what it is today. Big difference. I know they've gotten older and they're having health issues but still, I can't believe they once talked like normal people.
Roger has diabetes I think. Floyd senior has some kind of disease which I'm not sure about in regards to the specifics. Anyway, the point is I was surprised to hear that they spoke like normal people even when they were smoking crack back then.
@manbearpigisalive Pac agreed on the 2nd negotiation. On the 1st Pac - 24days cut-off before the fight, Floyd - 14days. 2nd negotiation, Pac-7days, Floyd didn't sign. 3rd, Floyd ask for a 100M... He may not be scared, but his actions makes him look he is.
just like when Floyd dawg cotto he was 35 cotto 31 and they counter the age with cotto has had more wars then mayweather so mayweather is the fresher body... they need to add back the boxer in the commentators to shut them up about boxing. like roy jones ,Lennox Lewis and George Foreman use to do back in the day... Floyd is art in motion all these, MMA fans need to remember this is the sweet science hit and not be hit.
@adxgr0undzer0 He didnt make the weight (not heavy enough) and had to wear heavier gloves and he lost the WBC World Flyweight Title when he was overweight
Floyd has recently went back to staying in the pocket. But what he really learned to do was get people to feel a way about him in a most extreme manner. It's either love or hate either way you will order that PPV.
@tacoandbeer yeah exactly, pacquiao has done the same thing yet he's still praised for being a warrior and would fight anybody anytime. it's only because pacquiao throws more punches and acts more humble because that's his image sell. it's a money business and the boxers are about the money too, which they should be.
@leavantgarage I never said that De La Hoya was at his "peak", but that's subjective. A great fighter in his early 30's is not as fast, but he's stronger, and more clever. I think that Floyd stops Oscar at 147 with 8 oz gloves. I think the best result Oscar ever could've gotten is the result he got back in '07. I have no doubt Floyd would've fought and stopped JCC. He would've stopped him on cuts, and he would've made it look shockingly easy.
His last loss proved it even more that Mayweather would've DESTROYED Pacqiuao, and no it's not over favoritism. Pacqiuao's aggressive style leaves him vulnerable for counters as you saw in the last fight with Marquez lol! I don't consider Mayweathers style boring at all......It's called being intelligent hitting and not being there for the counter. If I thought Pac had a chance of winning I would say it, but I don't think so.
Why would Floyd wait that long when Floyd is out of his prime and he is like 4 years older then Manny? Floyd said he is only fighting 1 or 2 more fights and he is finished because he is getting too old.
I was talking about Pacquiao. Until the 70s there was only one sanctioning body WBA, now you have 4, plus other "brands" plus diamond, golden, linear, ring and other stuffs. Sadly but belt today does not prove anything, like in the past. Today are just business. What today means is who fight who at the right time. In the past was the same plus the belt. Because you like Mayweather, when he fought Mosley he did not pay 600K to fight under the W... belt, he was not interested.
the catchweights didn't make a huge difference like everyone thinks lol pacquiao came up a ton of weight classes as it is so it's not too much to ask for these guys that are a lot bigger then him to lose a few extra pounds lol when pacquiao fought cotto cotto wasn't drained at all cotto fought clottey at a weight that was 2 lbs heavier only before he fought pacquiao and pacquiao was coming up from junior welterweight he never had a fight at welter weight before he fought cotto
MAYWEATHER DESTROYS CORRALES. AND ALONG THE WAY SHOWS HIS TRUE GENIUS IN BOXING. A TRUE TECHNICIAN OF THE SPORT. HE DISMANTLED CORRALES AND CHOP THAT LARGE TREE DOWN. And during this time Corrales was a beast. I still liked him after the loss but Mayweather he is the best on earth. Take that Pactards!!! lol
@ogagmanniko yet he fights undefeated fighters and pacquiao fights them after mayweather...oh and the second fight with morales was won after morales got his ass kicked by zahir raheem. so what are you really trying to say?...
lol he called oscar out for years and shane ain't want it hbo said mayweather fighting jessie vargas was disrespectful go look at the interviews when gatti and mayweather fought
I never heard mayweather calling out those 3. I always saw those ones calling him. A self proclamated best p4p must fight the best guys. In the meantime Mosley fought the very best in their prime ( Wright, Forrest, etc ) Delahoya too ( quartey, vargas, mosley, trinidad, forrest ,etc ). And Floyd ???? He won his first title 15 yrs ago when he was 20, what do you have to wait to fight the best ?? Maybe he wanted to get old to have the excuse now he's old. Good boxer, much better marketing man
@leavantgarage Pernell Whitaker was not better than Mayweather, not even defensively. His defense was to elude punches. Mayweather's defense is to elude, bock, parry, and counter. Two different levels.
Man, I really love your videos. They are great. Floyd is the greatest boxer I ever seen in over five decades of following boxing. Thanks so much.
thanks for putting this
gotta love how hbo sets up the whole boxing drama. to the lil beefs between certain fighters, the background documentries, and the commentary from the commentors!
This is a great video, great background on why Floyd changed from his father to his uncle. It makes sense to me, both in and out of the ring.
42-0 with 26 KO and still going.
both ways made him greatness
I LOVE DIEGO, R.I.P. BRO
The 1st lost is always the hardest to take.Ali said after his 1st lost he became a better man.R.I. P. Diego, few did it better.
Floyd is my boy, i just wished he took fights this dangerous nowadays.
1:03 -1:05 Floyd Mayweather Jr. hugging Jamie Foxx's character from The Soloist!! LOL
The most complete fight Floyd fight ever...Power, speed, combinations, boxing, defense...
Didn't know Alex Ariza and Miguel Diaz went way back
Especially with Hatton being undefeated at the time.
Thankz for uploading.
I always wanted to see .. Gatti vs corrales
I totally agree.
This was his BEST performance to me, my reason is because alot of people saw this as a bad match up for Floyd and he put on a show.
@leavantgarage another subjective one, if Pernell and Floyd fought prime for prime you could go back and forth all night long on who wins and why. pros and cons to two very gifted fighters.
Now name all the fighters who were at the tail-end of their careers who offered to fight in their prime...
Defense of Floyd Sr.+ Offense of "Black Mamba" Roger Mayweather = Floyd Jr
Peep the Cartier Joints that May is rockin @0:22
rip corrales :(
Dude, what the heck are you talking about Pacquiao had never fought at welterweight. He had just fought De La Hoya at welterweight in 2008 a year earlier, a weight class De La Hoya hadn't fought in almost a decade.
WTF happened to this somewhat humble and soft spoken guy
His voice stud.
Larry Merchant's speech from 4:29 - 5:35 can b said now except u can replace Corrales with Pacquiao. The last time people doubted Floyd a brilliant seemingly indestructable puncher (COrrales) got taken apartby Floyd. It's funny how history has a way of repeating itself.
alex ariza has been around for a while
Its overall better to not have any blood or knots in fight. You can still win with them it's just better to take no damage at all.
@FSMNoodlyAppendage not 2 mention he is undefeated also
I miss this Mayweather Jr. What the fuck happened!?!?
i love how neither lampley or merchant ever know wtf they're talking about
Lol
Larry Merchant was hating even then?!?!?!!!!
@tacoandbeer Hmmmmmm.. good point
Tainted how? Corrales had victories over top tier 130lb opposition. Casamayor, Gainer, Jukko, Manfredy and Roberto Garcia to name a few. Him fighting Floyd at 135 would've been no different.
Was larry merchant ever young?
@Boxerjunaid but in the vid it says corrales strugle to make weight because he had already moved up
R.I.P. Diego Corales still to this day i miss watching you in the ring..always you will be missed in my mind diego
lmao!!!! this statement proves mayweathers greatness. tune up fight is the #2 pound for pound best fighter in the world.
What the fuck, Alex Ariza said Corrales is 6ft1 and then in the tale of the tape it says 6 ft then in the Castillo fight it lists him as 5 ft 10 and a half
@DarkswordSerathus
You mean how Josie Harris admitted the first time she lied about him hitting her and how recently she hasn't showed up to court?
Wow. Compare the older Mayweathers' speech to what it is today. Big difference. I know they've gotten older and they're having health issues but still, I can't believe they once talked like normal people.
What health issues? You mean crack rock?
Roger has diabetes I think. Floyd senior has some kind of disease which I'm not sure about in regards to the specifics. Anyway, the point is I was surprised to hear that they spoke like normal people even when they were smoking crack back then.
@Vinnygil referring to boxing anyway
Diego Corrales was wearing Grant?.
LOL @ Larry Merchant saying anything in general.
just like when Floyd dawg cotto he was 35 cotto 31 and they counter the age with cotto has had more wars then mayweather so mayweather is the fresher body... they need to add back the boxer in the commentators to shut them up about boxing. like roy jones ,Lennox Lewis and George Foreman use to do back in the day... Floyd is art in motion all these, MMA fans need to remember this is the sweet science hit and not be hit.
@cutepirana flagrantly untrue...what are you referring to?
@comedicstuff You make some good points..these r the one im always trying to explain to ppl who dont know anything about boxing
One of the most devastating performances in boxing history, Mayweather destroying a man who himself had done the same to a majority of his peers.
@adxgr0undzer0 He didnt make the weight (not heavy enough) and had to wear heavier gloves and he lost the WBC World Flyweight Title when he was overweight
Yup 23
Floyd has recently went back to staying in the pocket. But what he really learned to do was get people to feel a way about him in a most extreme manner. It's either love or hate either way you will order that PPV.
Floyd Sr is all about defense,Roger is all about offense.with those 2 teaching you,you had to become a great fighter...
Takin bout cherrypickin,5 of the last 7 opponents for Pacman came off loses, except for Diaz and Marquez.
He seemed like such a nice guy. Who would've ever thought that Diego was a woman beater.
is Larry Merchant a vampire? He wants bloody this bloody that.
@jaythekinginthe323 exacly so he was by this time a naturally bigger fighter but still manged to lose to some one smaller
@tacoandbeer yeah exactly, pacquiao has done the same thing yet he's still praised for being a warrior and would fight anybody anytime. it's only because pacquiao throws more punches and acts more humble because that's his image sell. it's a money business and the boxers are about the money too, which they should be.
Mayweather and pacman should fight before they get too old !!!
@leavantgarage
I never said that De La Hoya was at his "peak", but that's subjective. A great fighter in his early 30's is not as fast, but he's stronger, and more clever. 43-0. CASE CLOSED.
@ah93704 and i think vitali klitschko has the highest ko ratio right now
why couldnt george commentate floyds fight
wow I didn't know mayweather beat a drained corrales
His last loss proved it even more that Mayweather would've DESTROYED Pacqiuao, and no it's not over favoritism. Why would Floyd wait that long when Floyd is out of his prime and he is like 4 years older then Manny? Floyd said he is only fighting 1 or 2 more fights and he is finished because he is getting too old.
That still doesn't change what my point was. How is he waiting for Manny to get older when hes older then he is? Makes zero sense.
larry merchant talking shit in 2001...talking shit in 2011
@Ronz93 you started watching boxing not too long ago huh?
corraless looks like kobe bryan
I was talking about Pacquiao. Until the 70s there was only one sanctioning body WBA,

Mayweather Jr. says the opposite now of what he was saying in this interview lol
42-0.. CASE CLOSED
are u in doubt of your hero getting ko'd now since he's so fuckin good why his name not brought up until AFTER his retirement in '07
where was pacquiao when floyd was active oh thats right! he was just a average nobody i forgot lol.
lol Larry still looks same
i can never understand what mayweather sr. is saying
Back when Floyd was'nt a coward.
Back when he wasn’t? He never was. He avoids punches to win the fight not because he afraid of being hit.
coralles is so sweet,, he is a sweet boy,, mayweather ate him up like candy....jokn
@Ronz93 well he has changed i'll give you that, but since were on the subject of a floyd at 135, your wrong
Take that Pactards!!! lol
@Meg62685 Because people make videos for them to be watched.
Thanks so much man, you have all the fights up?
@AndrewQuiroz24 Why are you watching this video?
@ogagmanniko yet he fights undefeated fighters and pacquiao fights them after mayweather...oh and the second fight with morales was won after morales got his ass kicked by zahir raheem. so what are you really trying to say?...
diego got his ass whooped but he was drained cant ignore that
Haha Diego sounds like michael Jackson.. "judge me if you want" I'm surprised he has not climbed a tree in the montage.
@BigSpell1 Someone as tall as him should NOT fight at that weight.
@masteroflife777 I think he died in a car accident driving his motorcycle
lol he called oscar out for years and shane ain't want it hbo said mayweather fighting jessie vargas was disrespectful go look at the interviews when gatti and mayweather fought
@kaaylo1 Rocky Marciano has the highest at 88% and Foreman has the second. Ali retired with a 67% ko ratio
@comedicstuff Diego killed himself so much to make weight, that he fought Casamoyer and Freitas in 2 of his next three fights at 130 lbs.
diego should have moved up in weight, he looks soo thin, he should be super middleweight or light heavyweight at his height
@Dmidgette1 yea they obviously dont know boxing, Mostly all of Floyds fights were against bigger men.
