@cayminlast Welcome and thank you for putting in the effort and doing it the right way.
One of the things I miss due to the edicts of His Fraudulency's Administration are the swearing in ceremonies for new citizens. They are always so happy and nervous as they are waiting for it to get started and then rightly happy and proud of their achievement afterwards. :-)

@Penderyn Don't be an ignorant fool. The Natives fought wars of conquest as well. War and strife didn't start the day America won her independence; it's human nature. Furthermore, Native Americans are Americans. They can achieve their dreams here better than anywhere else. They are us, even if we are not they.

This song is from the late 70s iteration of The Jazz Singer, which starred Neil Diamond. We'd come through rough times in the 60s and 70s, and we won some freedoms. So it was an optimistic time for many of us.

Also, I just wanted to say I appreciate you loving America, and appreciating our great country! While it's not without fault, and at times has lost its way.... America is STILL the shining beacon for the rest of the world, and it's a shame too many people born here refuse to see that. I've both lived and visited outside the United States, and I can tell you.... It IS better here. As you stated, the dream is what you make it. Work hard, eyes on the prize.

The American dream is as real as your own dreams that you carry in your heart. That is what makes America great, our dreams as a free people, living and striving each day to achieve those dreams as best we can. That is why other people of the world want to come to America to live in freedom to make their own dreams a reality. We are extremely lucky to be Americans there is so much we can be proud of despite the ugliness and sins in our history. Live and dream each day knowing that we are the makers of America through accomplishing our dreams.

Neil Diamond is definitely one of the best singer-songwriters ever. He sold over 130 million albums, broke attendance records wherever he performed and received numerous awards. He has a highly distinctive and immediately recognisable voice and impeccable phrasing, and he's a hell of a performer. Please review some of his other work. He has a huge catalogue to choose from and has written numerous classics: I'm a Believer, Red Red Wine, Solitary Man, Holly Holy, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Dry Your Eyes, Beautiful Noise... The list is endless!

Hope for a better future IS what ties us all together, regardless of personal preferences or lifestyle. We all want a safe happy future for our lifetime and certainly for our children. Hard work to reach determined goals is satisfying! Using your individual creative inherent talents to build that future is satisfying! It is a natural human desire. Having the freedom to do these things...is what our Constitution guarantees. Neil Diamond wrote this with his grandparents in mind. They were Jewish immigrants who fled Europe during the pogroms. They came here with nothing and he meant every word of it. If you're interested, this song, along with some other of Diamond's top songs, are featured in a movie called The Jazz Singer (1980). It's a pretty great film, featuring Laurence Olivier in the last decade of his 50-year long legendary career. It's the story of a young Jewish man whose immigrant parents want him to be a cantor, but he wants to do his own secular, rock music. Beautiful performances and great sounds.

Dig into his catalogue - he's written a TON of phenomenal songs! I had a random chance to see him in concert about a decade ago, and he put on a hell of a show!

Not a bad place to start.. it was a movie song , which he starred in & wrote the music.. Funny about Neil, he can sing rock and pop and whatever you want really, (He did a duet with Barbra Streisand which is an iconic song, what some people called a sell-out) but, all in all, He is probably one of the most beloved American singers of the last 55 or more years. any genre of music. So many to choose from, I would do his first big hit that he sang next, that was Cherry, Cherry, in 1966, soft rock with a good beat..but as he got older, the songs definitely matured .. so many hits for him and songs he wrote for others.. Enjoyed your reaction very much..

1905 my grandpa and his brother arrived from Ireland on Elis Island. No money just clothes on their backs. His brother sent back for he had polio. Penniless and homeless my grandfather worked the brick yards in New York City. 5 years after arriving his brother came back. They lived in a tent city. Eventually able to get an apartment and in 1925 bought a house. He loved this country. Never made much money but loved what this country stood for. Always told me freedom comes with a price and when you come here you accept the laws and constitution and moral values that made this country great.

The old man they keep panning to wearing the yamica is the legendary British actor Sir Laurence Olivier sitting alongside Lucy Arnez (daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez). They all starred in the 1980 remake of the 1827 Al Jolson classic The Jazz Singer - from which this song was taken. Watch the movie. It's a classic!

We have our flaws, and we shoudln't be afraid to acknowledge them.
We've done wrong in the past, and we should learn from that.
But we've also done great good. And we have the potential for vastly more good.
If we can just remember the kind of people we want ourselves to be, instead of focusing overmuch on what we have or don't have.

YES!! Finally Neil Diamond! You need to see his live performances, especially the 70's decade. His persona is dynamic. Listen to "Sweet Caroline," "Solitary Man," "I'm a Believer," "Girl, You'll Be a Woman Soon," "Cherry, Cherry," "I Am, I Said," "Love On the Rocks," "Hello Again," "Cracklin' Rosie," and "Forever In Blue Jeans." There are countless ear worms and deep songs.

There are many people that still flee their countries for a better life. Look at he Ukraine now. I bet there will be thousands of people coming here because of that war.

sis america has a TON of problems. we are on our way to third world status at this point and the only thing keeping us from settling our problems and moving forward is the misguided belief that america is the “greatest” nation ever when it’s so clear we are not. unless you are the 1% of the privileged

Socially there are a myriad of issues that need to be fixed, but historically one can make the case that America has done more good than harm, without ignoring the bad that we have done.
