I've taken about 104,000 photos over 54 years, and this creative videos may be the best I have ever seen! Congratulations!
Wow, thank you!
I just woke up on Christmas Day with breakfast at hand. Turned on the Tv and CZcams to watch your video review about the updated R5. The beginning of the video with the fisherman on the beach was spectacular. I have not watched your videos for a little but I was relaxed and took it all in. When thatPelican came in I had jaw drop 😮. Your narration of your video make an intense moment sound so calm allowing one to hear and see and digest your skills and capabilities. I totally forgot about the R5 and was truly immersed in this display of all out WAR ON THE WATER! It was a definite display of air prowess and the 😢desperation to survive. I thought the Osprey was done for but when it rolled with talons unhinged I knew ya boi 😂was not going down without a fight. Superb Display of photography and airmanship. Merry Christmas Mark. I will be sure to share this!
@@bigboi36 that’s awesome. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the well thought out comment.
Love this channel it helps me get better and made me try doing a channel for fun!
Hope to have a class in vero beach one day . Thank you 🙏🏻
Man, not only are your images spectacular, you're an amazing story teller! Thanks for that!
Thanks!!
One of the worst story tellers I've ever heard! The idea that you can anthropomorphize animals SHOULD be something of the past! The pics are brilliant, the guy is a douche.
Yes. He's brilliant!
this guy is good
Crazy things can happen when one becomes desperate for survival. Sometimes hunger makes animals attack things they wouldn't normally. Sometimes fear of being attacked makes animals fight ferociously against something they normally wouldn't survive. Nature can be both beautiful and cruel. Nature does not play favorites though. You either have what it takes to survive or you don't... If you do not then death is the only release. I once wished to take photos for national geographic. When I went into the Navy I tried for PH a photographers mate but, at the time the rate was merging with others so I was not approved for it. Great photos filled with life. These photos are worth more than a thousand words.
Absolutely breathtaking moments between the pelican & the osprey. You clearly have amazing skill, not only to capture, but to convey.
Being in the avian field for the past 30yrs. Having worked "hands on" with everything from Warblers to Birds of Prey. I don't believe i've EVER seen something this incredible....!!! I know Brown Pelican's swallow just about anything as i've seen gulls go into their throat pouches, Pigeons, etc...But NOT something as large as an Osprey. What an incredible moment too have captured on film. Very lucky individual indeed.
It was an amazing morning!
I have seen Pelicans swallow a Capybara, they dont give a f... about anything.
This is without a doubt the most exciting clip I’ve ever watched on your channel. Your work just keeps getting better. Well done Mark!
Agreed - amazing!
OMG, that was breathtaking! Fantastic photos!
Wow!! Just Wow. I was on the edge of my seat at the end. So glad the Osprey got away!! Thx Mark.
why? pelican for the win
Spoiler alert! 😡
maybe some of us didnt really care to sit through this long drawn out video. @@armoris66
The pelican died of hunger.....
Remarkable! The story, the struggle , the battle! I did not know , but now I do! Thank you Mark!
Your patience, crystalline captures, and narration bring the wild surf world to your viewers. Thank you!
Holy crap! the combination of image quality, the wildlife action and enthralling commentary had this big ol' man welling up inside. Whether it was the intention or not, this was incredibly moving and beautiful to watch. Thanks man.
That’s awesome to hear!
That's the greatest sequence of crystal clear "edge of the seat" images of wildlife struggles I've ever seen! Great photos and videos well done you! I'm subscribed and looking forward to more!
Wow! This was spectacular! The photos, the video, the music, the narration. Phenomenal work! You’re very talented! This is National Geographic level.
You need to get a serious award for this series mate. Incredible work!
Wow. Absolutely incredible footage. Thank you for sharing it with us all.
This has been the best narrative I’ve seen of Pelican vs Osprey. The photography you captured was amazing. Thank you.🙏🏿
Absolutely, an amazing series of photos. This is next level stuff of National Geographic channel quality!! Great job of patience and perseverance with your camera.
Many thanks!
WOW!! The tension build of this video is beyond amazing! The head to head shot of the pelican and Osprey around 7:12 is spectacular! This video is worthy of "Best of..." award. Two massive thumbs ups! Love the channel!
Thanks!!
Thnx for timrstamp
That was an amazing encounter. I’m glad you were able to record it, thank you!!
Phenomenal! Brilliant photos, footage. I hope that the pelican finally, got his meal from a big fish, in the end. Incredible courage from both birds.
Right place. Right time. Mark, you are Johnny on the spot. So many times you have captured amazing behavior. Some very original images. You are making your mark, Mark. Cheers!
Absolutely unbelievable. Kudos for capturing it so well, I'm glad it was you that saw it because your presentation style is bar none the best.
What an INSANE experience. That's one of things that's so amazing about birds--no matter how many hours you've spent watching them there's always something new to be seen.
Agreed
Oh man, I have never been glued to my laptop like this before. All the time routing for the Osprey. A few friends of mine and I were flyfishing on the Missouri River in Montana for trout. This Osprey dove down and caught a trout. He then flew up and started circling overhead. He circled for what seemed like five minutes and chirping the whole time. Next, he flew downstream maybe a hundred yards and started circling another angler. I am 99% positive that Osprey was "SHOWING OFF". He was proud of his catch and was saying,(chirping) "look what I caught" as he flew in circles with that trout in his talons. I also thought, he is saying, I'm better at fishing than you guys.
I am a new subscriber, thanks, I love Ospreys, they are awesome birds, and only eat fish.
Thanks for sharing your story! That’s awesome.
You are a master photographer and videographer, the shots are amazing and the sound effects keep you glued to your computer. Fantastic sharpness on the Ospreys, Pelican and overall insanely sharp. Thank you and happy New year
Wow, thank you!
Pictures, video, music and story-telling - all incredible!!
This archive of your videos will be of great learning for experts studying nature, photographers and more.
Thanks, Mark!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your videography and photography is absolutely world class - comparable to what we see in Attenborough’s documentaries. Congratulations!
It is better than Attenborough's documentaries because Mark tell no rubbish like Attenborough do it.

Absolutely mind bending photography and struggle for life. Thank you. You are a very talented photographer.
I honestly felt like I was experiencing this epic battle myself !!! Your video is amazing !!! Definitely subscribing !!!
Amazing stills and videos Mark! I really enjoyed the Osprey workshop I attended in October at Vero Beach. For those considering one of your workshops, they are really great. Having your son along as the "nature expert" was really great.
I've been following this ever since you posted this on Twitter. Glad to hear it ends well for the osprey. Absolutely incredible sight
Wow! What an incredible thing to witness much less to document so brilliantly! Great job 👏 👏 👏
Pelicans, I am learning are a determined birdie, especially when hungry. I've seen that they'll try to eat anything whether or not it should. Doesn't matter if the prey is larger than their head. Just insane. Thanks Mark for sharing an awesome video and your narrative description was superb!
This bird and the Great Blue Heron are pretty much The Boss.
As you say if they can, they will swallow it all up .
In the evolution scale, is diving and scooping for fish more advanced then sneaking up and and skewering.
These birds have a boldness and seemingly cold calculatedness in their own class.
American Alligators are after those herons for their lost babies and now I wonder if Pelicans are on the alligator menu too, and, it's as personal as that brown pelican osprey rivalry.

You photographs are captivating and inspiring. Your use of words is quite poetic.

I don't know how many shots it took but this series is just perfect. Great job 🙂
A lot!!!
This is a true inspiration, along with an incredible story of wit and survival! Thank you, Mark, for posting this amazing video!
My pleasure!
Absolutely amazing photography! Thank you, Mark for bringing this beautiful world up close to those fascinated by nature. Happy Holidays!
Absolutely fantastic photos, Mark. Thank you. I once watched two Bald Eagles double team an Osprey and kill it. Couldn't believe how well the eagles worked together to defeat the Osprey's agility. Jess
I love Ospreys and would not want to see one get killed and was so glad the one in Marty's video lived to hunt another day.
This is one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen! Beautiful photography and great work putting it all together! ❤
Wow, thank you!
Have a Happy Christmas Mark and thanks for all the amazing pix & info throughout the year! Pelican vs Osprey - spectacular shots!

Phenomenal story line and photographs showing the action. You Sir, are a Master Photographer. Great job.

Wow that was intense!! First I felt sorry for the osprey, but then I started feeling sorry for the starving pelican--nature is brutal and LIT!! Incredible, Mark--thanks for this!!💖💖💖

I so appreciate that you share what you do.
Wow, thank you!
Truly incredible! What great fortune to witness and even record this 😮
This is absolutely amazing Mark. First, have to give you a lot of credit for witnessing such an amazing site, can't imagine the excitement of being there, getting those amazing shots and watching this encounter between those who bird species. Fantastic. Thank you for sharing that of course, but also wanted to chime in on the quality of your work. Amazing shots and absolutely insane details. I have shot Ospreys and many other species of birds, or animals in general for years, but to witness something like this, I have to admit, when I witness anything remotely close to this, first time, my hands shake from excitement, so I have to learn how to calm myself when excitement takes over. Thanks for sharing this beautiful video and your photography.
Love the story telling!! Incredible moment to witness and capture
What an amazing story told by an even more amazing photographer and narrator, thank you for this amazing video Mark,
Thank you kindly!
How you did this , handling such a huge lens is remarkable. As a photography hobbyist and an animal lover I salute you. Right place right time, and well prepared, with talent…. It’s that last part that usually gets me.😅😅😅

No body has done a better job than you. Stunning images with detailed descriptions. What an excellent job!
A lot of work went into this. But classics don't come easy. Congratulations for this outstanding accomplishment.
Thanks!
Dude, your pics n flicks stand out on so many levels. Your work is probably the best in wildlife I've ever seen.
You brought back some old memories of when I used a long lens to shoot Ospreys. Life has changed a lot since then. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Thank you!
Glad to take you down memory lane!
Speechless! Thanks for posting this amazing experience.
That was INSANE!!! Incredible photos and story-telling. Thank you for sharing!
David Attenborough eat your heart out. This was not only insane, but incredible, beautiful and unbelievable. Bravo, sir.
Say Mark, my osprey expert friend, Alan Poole, author of Ospreys: A Natural and Unnatural History, loved this video. "Amazing stuff - super photography." He said to tell you that a few of the Caribbean ospreys are nesting in FL now, so this bird could be a resident.
Mark this is the most incredible I have ever watched as a birtphotographer. I hope like in the last video, the video will not be used without your concent the respect can be shown to the work behind.
Amazing work, thank you for posting these encounters
Absolutely amazing photography and story, thank you !
Absolutely incredible Mark thanks for sharing!! 🤩
That was superb!! Excellent photography and VERY well put together. Unbelievable show. GREAT work. Thank you so much for that..
WOW!! Thanks for sharing such incredible footage. You do a great job editing, presenting and narrating this!!. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Truly stunning. Both the fish dragging the osprey under and the pelican attack! I love the way you built up the pelicans character leading up to the final battle. Awesome story telling and even more amazing photos!
Thanks!
Unbelievable footage! That photo that forms the thumbnail surely should win a wildlife picture award! Breathtaking!
Absolutely awesome vid. Thanks
John, love your videos. The best show on CZcams.
What an amazing story, coupled with other worldly images! In some of the shots, the maniacal pelican resembles a villain straight out of a Hollywood animation feature! Incredible compositions in this high octane series, where it could be so easy to miss focus or critical frames. Your skill + keen eye + advanced imaging technology = Creative Jazz! This episode should be given all the wildlife awards out there! Take a bow Mr. Smith!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate your kind words.
Unbelievable footage. What a moment I bet your adrenaline was pumping capturing these wonderful images. Well done on an amazing job
WOW! Amazing! I felt as if I was witnessing the events captured by your camera!! Great job! Thank you!

Not only that the photos are breathtaking, but your narratives are most poetic. Thanks.
Wow, thank you!
At 12:09 you can see clearly the osprey talons tearing off the pelican poach. No way it could have swallowed it. Incredible job.
Incredible! I had no idea this behavior was even possible. One of your best ever Mark!
Wow, thank you!
Truly amazing photography & story, Mark! To all: Season’s greetings! Mark’s book is some of the best bird action, coffee table, photos I’ve ever seen! Seriously! Wonderful! Best wishes!
