Great review. Perfect review for me personally, as I have the HD650 and am starting to look into my upgrade, and these were the two chief headphones in my lineup. Love all your videos, your voice is perfect for this kind of stuff. Keep them coming!
After watching your review on both headphones I decided to get the T1 (since HD800 + quality amp are far beyond my budget). I received this pair of cans today and as soon as I tried it on I was totally astonished by the sound quality - clean and precise bass with warm and sweet mids. One of my favorite headphones I own is Sennheiser HD 25 II. It is a fantastic pair for under $300, but the reason I decided to upgrade is that, from my experience with Senn's headphones, they tend to have dirty sounds as if coming out from a megaphone. I was uncertain if this applies to HD 800, so I decided to give Beyer a shot. All I can say is that T1 is the best headphone I have so far (I am not interested in a "reference" headphone; all I need is a pair capable of delivering the best listening experience). Thank you so much for your review. It is really helpful!
I pair it up with Beyerdyanmic A20 amp, which I've been using for a while, and it works just fine. I don't know if there is a significant improvement with A2.
Yes. Beyer has stopped the manufacture of the first gen at the time of my purchase. I haven`t tried the 1st gen so I cannot comment much on the difference between the 2nd gen.
+William Hsu Ok. I was wondering if I should get to the t1 2nd gen or the hd800S. I've read reviews on both saying that they both sound amazing. Beyerdynamic is $300-400 cheaper but the hd800S soundstage is just unbelievable. I'm leaning towards the t1's for now though
Hi! I'm looking to buy me a pair of some super headphones. I will be using them "all around" at the desk, on the go, and when i'm just walking around at home. I currently don't have any good amplifiers, just the fiio e11. I have been looking at the grado rs1i, beyerdynamic t5p, and the t1's. I know the t1's are 600 ohm and only can be driven through an amp, but are they worth the money if i buy them plus an amp over the t5p? And can the grado's be driven through the fiio e11/ e12?
I think imma go with the T1 :) what do you think, should I buy an amp or headphones first? right now I only have senn 558 and a fiio E17 but I plan on going T1s and a WA2
just wondering, have you opinions changed at this point and which amp and dac do you accompany with the T1? i'm using bottlehead crack and a rather mediocre dac with mine right now and am wondering what would be the immediate next upgrade.
Nice informative review. I have been looking to get the DT880 (600 ohm) Premiums but here in London no shop seems to have a demo pair to listen to. Would you be able to tell me how they compare to the HD-800's and even the T1's. I know that are nowhere near as expensive but I have listened to the HD-800's and I agree with your description of them totally. I heard them in Selfridges store here in London (UK). So if you are able to tell me how they compare I would much appreciate it.
Are you familiar with the Apogee Ensemble audio interface? Would you happen to know if the headphone pre-amps in the Apogee Ensemble would be powerful enough to provide ideal power to the HD800s?
You're right - but I really like my HD650s! With a top-shelf DAC and powerful amp I think they hold up amazingly well! Which is why I think a comparison would be all the more interesting! It is your channel of course - but I'd love to see that.
Hi Mike noticed you don't own the Audeze LCD 2 or 3 headphones...Any reason why? What are thoughts which I am sure you have auditioned both? How would you compare the LCD-3 to the your Beyer T1 & Senn HD800? Thanks :)
Would a Magni 2 be able to drive the T1? I'm shooting to get a T1 at some point since they can be found for much cheaper than the HD800 and I'm wondering if my amp set up now would be sufficient.
How would the T1 sound with a computer soundcard? I've been looking for quality sound for my PC for a while... I have the Logitech G35 now, and the sound is horrible in music and movies. I also own the Pioneer HDJ-1000 for music on my phone, and it's the only headset I've tested that gives a good sound. (beats by dre is not correctly balanced). How do you think the T1 would perform in PC games?
Added on - T1 REQUIRES to be used with tube amplifiers to get the optimal sound. As for using a portable amplifier in order to use T1 also as transportable headphones, the one that works best is the Continental from ALO Audio. It is capable of driving 600 Ohm T1 and, when needed, can provide a swing voltage to deal with 900 Ohm impedance on bass frequency. I hope this will help.
@hifiguy528. If you have to choose one from the Sen 900 & the Beyer T1 which one will you choose and why ? We own similar gears, maybe we have similar taste. I notice you have the Focal Grand Speakers, the McIntosh preamp and amp ( ? ). Which do you prefer listening to between speakers or headphones ? Listening to speakers seems more natural, organic and freedom from an unnatural clamp on the head and some heat on the ears.
i own a T1 currently and owned a DT1350 for a couple months about half a year ago. you can really think of the DT1350 as a trimmed down portable T1. it's sound signature is very balanced with the same sort of great bass and sparkly highs in the T1. the soundstage is okay, for a closed can it's pretty good. mids are relatively flat, not hollow or to sweet. only two faults with it are a comfort issue with a bit of plastic along the headband touching the sides of your head and and the soundstage.
Subscribed, how about a review of the Beyerdynamic T 90 now in stock ! Also how about going back and adding a follow up, at least to the popular products. Thanks
hi bro. can you help me with the T1 characteristic? is it bright? because when i listen to them on jaben yesterday.Only short while so i cant really now their characteristic
Hello I am recently retired and intend to sit in my garden this summer and listen to my IPod, mostly to 50s & 60s rock but with some later stuff as well. and wondered if you could recommend a top headphone,( plus amp if needed) money not a problem. Many thanks, Barrie.
barrie frost Beyerdynamic should fulfill your needs, Barrie. If you can spend $200 on a headphone, go for the DT 990 PRO, I have myself one of those and I am surprised every time I listen to them. It all depends what color of music you prefer. (this might be a bit confusing) Beyerdynamic are reference monitor headphones, for analytical sound. You will hear everything and they won't muffle anything away. also their bass is terrifically detailed and low. if you like to listen to a warmer sounding headphone, sennheiser often sounds easy listening to most people and Grado is also known to sound warmer. The only problem I encounter is your source, the IPOD. If you don't want to carry around an amp and DAC, check out the FIOO x3 or x5. they are music players that can handle every single High-res file you throw at them and have 2 on-board DAC and AMP (each for left and right channel). the x3 costs about $200 , the x5 about $300 - $350, not very sure about it. I hope this helped.
thetoroloco76 I bought the DT 990 PRO and actually can't really stand them. For just a little while maybe, funny to listen to 10 to 15 minutes, but that's it for me. Depends on taste, but I wouldn't say they don't muffle things. I drove them on a Asus Essence ST, which is not the best thing out there yet decent, and I never heard mids so muffle on any headphones... I'm not claustrophobic, but they were pushing me over that edge :D
listening to this guy talk while I'm wearing my Beyer Dt880pros is amazing! ... anyway, truth be told, it would be hard to justify getting the Sennheisers with the Dt880 pro and T1 priced so well.
Fantastic review, I've been looking for a crazy high end set of cans to get for my crazy computer setup on my CZcams channel and I think the T1 with the A1 amp might fit the bill.
I have been saving for a pair of the HD 800 for a while now. But I have yet to hear the T1' on my head so I don't know what to get. I need to find a store that has the T1's in stock so I can hear what they sound like. The shitty thing is no store has my sound card, my computer and most stores will not let you play around with settings on their sound cards so you can get the best sound ''to your own liking'' out of the sound card for the specific headphones.
More than the HD800? I've narrowed it down to these two headphones, but I haven't heard either of them because I cannot find a place within a days drive that sells them. I cannot afford to buy them both, which makes it hard to choose the right one.
Hey Mike what's up, you should review the T5 p, they are essentially 81 that you can carry around with you as they're closed back, I would be interested to see your thoughts as you are one of the best reviewers on CZcams
This will shine like a crazy diamond! its come the 2. generation in these year 2015! Check it out with new cables and better highs and bass!! cheers ädu
Please excuse me intruding, PS1000 - If you have enemies recommend them PS1000. LCD3 - Very overpriced for what they offer HD800 - The best headphones for studio monitoring and sound mastering. Very picky what amplifier to use with them. With most of them the treble is sibilant. The problem is most of us do not work in the sound studios and we require more euphonic headphones to enjoy music. HD800 are too clinical to offer that. T1 - Best overall dynamic headphones, they do everything right.
After watching this and reading a bunch I purchased a pair of Beyerdynamic T1, and will get them in a couple of days, I'm so excited I nearly goo myself, lol!!! :D
I got a deal for the AKG K812 the price is 500€ new???? is that price good for comparision examble dt 1990? it is also 500€ i dont like sennheiser so much i have 660s.. I love huge soundstage!
Smart or lucky man, you hit a jackpot with T1 + W3000ANV combination. These two headphones are what I consider a perfect pair. Many albums are badly sound engineered and mastered, if the treble is too prominent or screechy then W3000ANV helps in toning it down a bit. If an album sounds a bit dull with not enough treble then T1 is the choice. Both headphones have fully present middle-frequencies and this is a godsend because most headphones today have recessed mid-f and in mid-f the music flows.
The Sennheiser HD800 are made with Leona - Polyamide 66, a polymer resin. They use a variety of mineral and/or glass fiber reinforcements. They used glass fiber in this mold to reduce resonance.

+William Hsu T1 is fantastic. Check out beyerdynamic A1 or A2 amp. pairs very well with T1.
I pair it up with Beyerdyanmic A20 amp, which I've been using for a while, and it works just fine. I don't know if there is a significant improvement with A2.
+William Hsu did you get the T1 2nd gen?
Yes. Beyer has stopped the manufacture of the first gen at the time of my purchase. I haven`t tried the 1st gen so I cannot comment much on the difference between the 2nd gen.

Thank you so much for the videos you have been posting up.
What do you think about the hd800S? How much better are they compared to the regular hd800?
I'd love to see your comparison to AKG K712 and K812
loved this vid, more reviews please!
That's reassuring as I'm going to order the DT990 pros tomorrow!
Your videos are great and relaxing, thank toh
What amp do you use?
Can you get these in Lightning connector? Apple says 3.5mm is so yesterday.
How does the LCD-X compare to these two? Sound, and build wise.
great review man!!!
I have Aune X1 Pro Headphone Amplifier/DAC is that amp good for Beyerdynamic T1 ??
What kind of amp and dac o you use to power T1 and HD800?
Awesome reviews man! I would love to see a similar review on IEM`s now please! :)
Awesome review. Proves that you know your stuff well.

Would the WA7 be good enough for the T1s?
Mike you're one of the best reviewers on the internet.
What about ibasso dx90 & cayin c5 vs. Desktop DAC and amp like Magni or so on?
You should talk about sound more, love it. Can't wait to see the grados and your K701s
Awesome! Give us more comparisons
eviews. Keep it up hifiguy!
How are you bro :)! Can u please review the Beyerdynamic t90? Trust your reviews and wanted to know what you think of them. Thanks!
I just got Beyerdynamic T90 with A20 amp.
But I feel that the music is somewhat thin with sharpiness.
Would the T1 have been a much better deal?
I think imma go with the T1 :)
what do you think, should I buy an amp or headphones first?
right now I only have senn 558 and a fiio E17 but I plan on going T1s and a WA2
What do you think about the Grado PS1000s and LCD-3s vs the HD800s and T1s?
Were you able to audition these headphones, before you purchased them? If so, what type of place can you audition them?
Im not sure of it but since the headphones are open back...that means its not really good outdoors right like other people can hear your music?
what kind of amp can drive these two incredible headphone? for example?
just wondering, have you opinions changed at this point and which amp and dac do you accompany with the T1? i'm using bottlehead crack and a rather mediocre dac with mine right now and am wondering what would be the immediate next upgrade.
Nice informative review.

love your videos dude! all i got is XB1000,500,600 and fiio e11 D:
Are you familiar with the Apogee Ensemble audio interface? Would you happen to know if the headphone pre-amps in the Apogee Ensemble would be powerful enough to provide ideal power to the HD800s?
how does my he500 compares to those two headphones
Which amp or Dac do you recommend with either of these headphones? Especially the Beyerdynamic T1 ..
i hv an HD 800 for studio mixing . i get impress with the beyerdynamic T5p , is there a huge quality different between T1 and T5p ?
You're right - but I really like my HD650s! With a top-shelf DAC and powerful amp I think they hold up amazingly well! Which is why I think a comparison would be all the more interesting! It is your channel of course - but I'd love to see that.

Do you have any recommendations for high quality amps i could use with the T1?
the new Beyer A2 or even the older A1 are excellent for T1.
One of your best video hifiguy
what kind of amp do you need for headphones?
Hi Mike! What is the headphone stand for the HD800 you are using?
What about metal music and classical music, wich headphones would you recommend me? :D
have you tried these on the audioengine d1 that you reviewed? or is that not a good amplifier for these headphones?
would you recommend shure srh940 reference headphone ?
Would a Magni 2 be able to drive the T1? I'm shooting to get a T1 at some point since they can be found for much cheaper than the HD800 and I'm wondering if my amp set up now would be sufficient.
***** yes no problem
i have the k701, how much better would you declare the hd800 over the k701?
HD700 or T5p better overall ?
How far is the speaker like sound?
How would the T1 sound with a computer soundcard? I've been looking for quality sound for my PC for a while... I have the Logitech G35 now, and the sound is horrible in music and movies.

How about the LCD 3? Thanks!
Where did you get your headphone stands? They're beautiful :D

Consider the Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro. No amp needed.

I certainly will and many thanks for your help. All the best. Barrie.

what kind of mp3 source do you use?
That's nice Mike, is the Schiit Magni able to deliver enough power for your T1?
do you buy these personally or most of them are sent from companies?
Is the Beyerdynamic so much better than Oppo PM1?? Worth the 200 dollar extra? And how is the Soundstage on the T1?
thank you...
I am getting them in a few days so I will tell you.
liar

what headphone stand is that for T1?
This will shine like a crazy diamond! its come the 2. generation in these year 2015! Check it out with new cables and better highs and bass!! cheers ädu
What are the prices of both these headphones??
Please excuse me intruding,
PS1000 - If you have enemies recommend them PS1000.
LCD3 - Very overpriced for what they offer
HD800 - The best headphones for studio monitoring and sound mastering. Very picky what amplifier to use with them. With most of them the treble is sibilant. The problem is most of us do not work in the sound studios and we require more euphonic headphones to enjoy music. HD800 are too clinical to offer that.
T1 - Best overall dynamic headphones, they do everything right.
I own the T1 - driving it with the SPL Phonitor and the Musicfidelity M1Dac - for me, it´s absolutly perfect !!
After watching this and reading a bunch I purchased a pair of Beyerdynamic T1, and will get them in a couple of days, I'm so excited I nearly goo myself, lol!!! :D

Listening with my Sennheiser HD 650's!
do a review of the Asus Xonar Essence One
Are both actually manufactured in Germany?
Can you name some high end amps that would be compatible with an ipod? Something that would bring the best out of Sennheiser HD650's...
omg :D my ath-m50 LE arrived today :D loving it
Do you have any Grado's?
The Sennheiser HD800 are made with Leona - Polyamide 66, a polymer resin.
They use a variety of mineral and/or glass fiber reinforcements.
They used glass fiber in this mold to reduce resonance.
make a review of the mdr xb1000 and the relatives pls!
I havent herd much bout the T1's but im guessing they are good from your review
i want them both :'(
+Dora Wahl but it's so expansive ;)
better than the stax sr-009 ?
