  • I finally got to order the most elusive Kora Doughnut, a relatively small and new doughnut bakery in New York that makes Filipino-flavored doughnuts. This is not a paid ad, but I have to say, the doughnuts are divine. Please look at the link below for more details:

Yeah, the ube can't be the best because on another video, they made do with Japanese yam and just added a bit of pinoy ube they can get in NY. Hard to come by in the US since the ube pinoys love can be found only in the Philippines, as far as I know...just like the calamansi?

Thanks for seeing through what I said. Ube is a really tricky flavor, in my opinion. It does not have a burst of flavor to begin with. It is very subtle. Yes, I watched that video you mentioned. And, if they use frozen Filipino ube, then that explains the diminished flavor. I tasted a thawed ube before I used it and it does not have a flavor at all. But, it is becoming very popular, not just in Filipino cuisine here in the U.S., but in other Asian food because of its color. It is very attractive. And one cannot resist but bite into it. That, I understand. So unlike calamansi, ube remained a mainstay in their list because people love it, Filipinos and non Filipinos alike. Overall, I admire and commend the creativity of the chef. :D
