  • Philosopher, political activist, author, record producer, speaker and songwriter. Bard has written three books on the internet revolution, collectively known as The Futurica Trilogy.
In his talk he poses a slightly odd but surprisingly relevant question: "What if the Internet is God?"
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

The theories and the concept of syntheism is really interesting. Theres no doubt that Alexander has a lot to contribute, but the presentation is a bit to skippy form theory to theory. The subject, that I and probably most others had no previous knowledge of, requires more time. I dont get the feeling that hes "digging deep" like he says, hes just throwing his and other peoples ideas at us. Still fucking interesting though :)

To be honest, I think the majority of you have lost sight of the title, What IF God is the internet? As in a hypothetical question. As of the definition as an adjective: of, based on, or serving as a hypothesis. or a noun: a hypothetical proposition or statement. I, more or less see this as more of a what if then him stating that it is fact. I look at it as him saying "Look at this and the possibility of."

    • @gaunten
      @gaunten Před 8 lety +1

djayjp That is your interpretation of a deity. First of all, there have been a lot of religions throughout the ages, and pretty much all of them have had their own deities, all made up by humans. And far from all of them live up to your criteria.
Since man made up god(s), man can also change the idea of god. And since man has kept making gods over and over, it seems to be something we need to do.
I'm all for creating a new god, or a new concept of god as it were, but this time around, make it something we all know what it is, no mysticism, no dogmas, just call the internet god, it's as close as we're gonna get with today's technology anyways :) And it has affected the world more than any previous gods has been able to, at least in regards of how people live their everyday lives.

This author has many assumptions about life. For example, when he mentioned the word "love," to him love is no difference than lust, so perhaps, this is where he needs to discover more about love, perhaps,an unconditional love to see how it is. He assumed that the world would just appear based some "physics," and he is rambling on about many big words to catch our attention but his theories are not connected. It is interesting that he started to draw our attention about the word "God," then he was rambling on about many theories, but his theories were not connected, and his conclusion was that there was no real God. Well, what if he started to talk about love, then it would be interesting to see how long his presentation would be.

This reminds me of myself when I try to make up things and sound smart. Firstly, you have the idea that you can meddle with being a believer of the universe (religious) and atheistic (non-religious) simultaneously. What does it mean in practice to truly believe in the universe as a whole but at the same time associate yourself with something detached from a belief in a unifying principal based on something meaningful and how would that be genuinely expressed? I mean, to simply state things like that makes very little sense. The idea that because you behold an essence of potential, expressed as "void", and henceforth you have "a god for atheists because it is a god that doesnt exist" makes seriously no sense. Secondly, you say that "the universe doesn't need a creator, we know that from physics" then continues to say that we should create god... If the universe doesn't need one why make one, for what purpose exactly? And don't forget to tell me how mans purpose is detached from the universal one. Thirdly, the idea that because there is "difference" say in peoples body sizes or colors of flowers etc there can't be a determinant principal is just strange to even have to argue, can't I determine for example to break an object into different pieces? Change or evolution can be of a deterministic function just as well. I could go on because there is a lot of cognitive dissonance expressed here but of course its a difficult topic and its interesting to explore things but I think that you might be lacking a term for what you are really trying to express because the idea that there can be multiple gods sort of implicitly undermines what a god stands for. A god isn't supposed to be thought of as different concepts but the collection of concepts.
The worst philosophers are those who study it rather than live it.

I guess this is what has become of Swedish intellectual thinking. Progressive preachers have apparently been reduced to corky bold hipsters. At least they've realized that their form of Atheism is a dead-end and as a consequence converted to different kind of Spiritual Agnosticism. I have to say that the re-discovery of classical Western thought (e.g. Greek philosophy) is good. However, the reasoning is still too primitive to comment further...

This man is an amazing philosopher, who has completely missed where the meaning of life comes from. He has no idea what he is saying, he is only repeating what he has been told and yet he thinks he is creating “God”, he thinks he is not letting anyone tell him what to do. Interesting.
Your eye is not void... but some eyes are. When I look at people sometimes they look empty inside. Not in a way of just being sad or depressed, but truly EMPTY. Then when I look at other people they look full. What makes the difference?
In other words, yes everything is void and nothing has meaning unless we give it meaning, but how can WE who are VOID give ANYTHING MEANING?? We must be filled up with something else first to be able to have meaning in life and to give meaning. What must we be filled up by??
    Something greater than us.
The creation of the world THE WAY HE BELIEVES IT HAPPENED only gives us the option of having a completely meaningless existence for as long as we exist with NO WAY OUT OF IT. Because we have nothing greater to fill us up.
In the end, everyone must come to terms with the fact that we can not create God, he was here before us, and without him we are not capable of having meaning.
But oh that hurts so bad. It hurts SO bad to accept we are not the greatest thing in the universe, that even a well educated man like him, at 50 years old still refuses to accept it.
Fairyland is a much easier place to dwell... and a much emptier place.
    Edit:
Btw, I understand this is just philosophy and people listen to it and think about it because ideas are interesting. That’s why I watched it, because it’s interesting. I also think my ideas are interesting that’s why I write a comment and that’s why you write a comment.

I wonder what this guy is like to hang out with. Seems like he could be cool, or on the other hand could be just constantly pontificating. Regardless, for a guy who repeatedly proclaims the non-existence of the ego, he's pretty full of himself. Unless he's being ironic.

Who was Jesus Christ? Did such a person exist? Liar? Lunatic? Deluded rebel? Or God?

I find it interesting that people think that they're so smart that they can deconstruct God, when God was the one who constructed them. It is very amusing.... and in a way, it's sad as well.

Interesting 🧐 … this is the result of the human condition of “vanity” imo.
As we think about the future of the internet, I suggest to you that it is a snare for the souls of those who go too far.
I ask anyone to find the oldest Bible they can and look up what was written specifically about this topic thousands of years ago as a prophecy for today.
The word “heathen” in the Bible simply means those who don’t believe in the God of gods, the LORD of Lords … those who today don’t know who Jesus Christ actually Was, and Is, and Is to come. a person needs to understand the word “heathen” (aka gentile) before they can perceive the meaning of the following verse.
      📖Psalm 9:15📖
“The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the net which they hid is their own foot taken.”
“The heathen are sunk down in the pit that they made: in the **inter**net which they hid is their own foot taken.”

The Internet is NOT God, but it fits the description of the idols worshipped by the idol-worshippers that the real true God condemned in the Bible.
Their land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made:--Isaiah 2:8
