I started purposely leaving my book with a cool "Letter to Stranger" Between its pages and my contact info. I have ended up with lots of readers who enjoyed my book and now are my friends.
Thanks so much for this! I published my thriller novel last year and after the initial sales which were great it's gone down a lot now so I'll definitely take all of these recommendations!
Hello Mandi. I'm so glad I have found your Channel. Great tips! Amazing video. You actually explained in a way we can all understand. I will definitely apply them to my writing. I am recommending this Channel to everyone I know!
Very good video. I went thru bunches of videos on book marketing and the others lasted 20 minutes or more never getting to the point of exactly what to do. This is different - exactly what I needed to hear with no idle little comments. I don't have a print book - all mine are on Kindle KDP - one for free, hoping that will mean sales of the others. The confidence #1 thing is SO right. I'm a much better writer than a talker - thus I'm not so sure a blog will work - but - posting on other blogs is definitely a possibility.
I've done the first three, so I'm on my way. Plus, my brother's friend purchased two copies of my book. My website was upgraded with a cleaner template, and my podcast launches on September 1st. Also, I'm pursuing a ghostwriting gig. So much happening!
Nice tips. The huge advantage is that I can write in the most spoken languages in the planet. English and spanish. Greetings from Colombia South America.
I think you mention to have giveaway eg. in Instagram ask people to follow, like and tag 3 people in comment - the question is does it means to sent them the ebook, you have to manual monitor those followers who tag 3 people which and therefore a lot of manual work?
This has helped me with my first book! I'm in the editing stage before I start sending it for professional edits, etc, and have started looking into how to market it without starting a CZcams chanel. Thanks for your tips ^_^
You know I got business cards for a book sale event that my town had. I didn't get a chance to make it bc of weather and getting sick, but that's a good idea to cork it up. Plus see if there are any literary festivals around you. Sometimes they're small and sometimes they're big. I also had a friend who sold her book at a flea market/fair ground booth.
Thank you for these tips and awesome ideas. I will certainly use them with my newly publlished book, "The Harlin Saga - Part 1: Sara's Legacy" (available on Amazon.
I didn't know that you have a puppy too, I thought there is only Moon. How cute is Dawson (?). I love dogs so much. Great tips! Have a blessed day, Mandi!
Of course, down here in Mobile tip 3 wouldn't work very well because unless you're an established author with a big time publisher they're more likely to deny adding the book to their system and would sell it instead, or ask you to come back and get it. Either way, they'll need for professional reviews will get in the way of getting your book into their library.
These are good tips! I love talking about my books, haha... probably my favorite part of marketing! :) The libraries in Chicago don't take donations, but I have donated a few copies of my Furever Home Friends books to the children's hospital here (the same one I went to when I was a sickly child... cue emotional music) and that has been nice! :) Social media has been super helpful as well! Love doing blog/youtube/podcast interviews!
any tips for traditionally published authors from small publishing houses? My book "Girlz 'N the Hood: A Memoir of Mama in South Central Los Angeles" is out this fall. Most of the information seems to be for self-published authors.
Check out the Marketing for Authors book series by myself and Bethany Atazadeh. Most marketing techniques can be used by traditionally published authors as well.
Great video!!! I really need to work on #1. I was at the dentist literally yesterday and the secretary was asking me what I did to which I said writing and she had follow up questions and wanted me to explain dystopian to her and I didn't even name drop Aletheia I was too busy panicking lmao Online I can handle, in person people ask about my book and I freeze up. I also really want to try Kindle Select but am with Ingramspark so I'd have to call them and get ebook distribution put on hold to do that. But I sell maybe one ebook trough IngramSpark a month and KU comes with so many little perks I think I might do a test run.
The dentist situation is literally what I was thinking when I came up with this tip! haha And I used to distribute my books through Smashwords so it was everywhere and I was on the same boat. Very few sales compared to KDP. I'd give it a shot and see what you think!
I love this vid. We do the business card trick and leave them everywhere. Please check out mcotd.uk. It's about hunting wherewolves in 1642 in Russia. After we launched the website I got contacted by an agent but he wanted five grand to help get it to the top of the slushpile.
Besides what you've already come up with for Twitter, I'd say interact with the community on Wattpad, and also on social media to get yourself out there :)
