    The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is an open world action role-playing video game developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. It is the fifth main installment in The Elder Scrolls series, following The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and was released worldwide for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 11, 2011.
    The game's main story revolves around the player character and their quest to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The videogame is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion, and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. The game continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

      I thought I read somewhere that Krosis also means unknown or lost. Which would make more sense of why throw voice is nearby-its an unknown source/direction of sound.
      It had something to do with a phrase said by draugr that could be seen as "Im sorry im gonna kill you" or possibly "I will make you unknown/forgotten"...I might be completely mistaken however;
      The mask makes much more sense when seen this way; the wearer becomes unknowable and forgotten. Like an ancient form of the Gray Fox within the Dragon Cult.
      This "Unknown" priest had no great tomb. No draugr followers. Absolutely zero books, scrolls, or walls filled with murals before his lair. He sits alone atop a mountain. Unknown.
      ...aaaand now Im super curious what the throw voice word wall says. Because that is technically the only record near his tomb proving this whole comment wrong. Still...its a brainstorm.

    Konahriik meant 'Warlord' in Dragon Language. In times of war, All the Dragon priests gathered at Bromjunnar (Labyrinthian) and used their masks to reveal the Konahriik mask. The mask would be granted to the person that is chosen to lead them whenever the Cult was under threat. In the Lore, The Dragon Cult was under a major threat two times. Miraak's betrayal and The Dragon War. To defeat Miraak, Dragon Priests gatherered, unlocked the Konahriik mask and bestowed it to Vahlok. After he defeated Miraak, he returned it to its place. Second time, before the Dragon War, The Priests gatherered in Labyrinthian to chose their Warlord that will lead them but to their surprise, the mask had disappeared. We, with the help of all Dragon priest masks and the wooden mask, stole it before the start of the Dragon War.

    I'm more inclined to believe that Kohnariik is a title given in emergencies, not a priest. Kinda like Hortator of the Great Houses. The way that the masks need to be placed suggests that it requires a "vote" from each of the priests.
    Also this makes dunking on Miraak while donning Kohnariik infinitely more badass.

    • @w.c2255
      @w.c2255 Před 3 lety +11

      I believe the same as you on this regard. I think Konahkrik mask was designed during the period Miraak turned against the dragon priests and dragons. More so likely I think the mask was formed after Alduin was banished( it might be before too. Im not sure if Alduin was around when Miraak turned against him, cause if he was then it would make sense that Alduin would of fought Miraak) We know even though it is not directly confirmed that the 3 Solstheim priests turned against the dragons too and served Miraak( their masks is shaped after Miraak's ) so I assume Vahlok was the leader( as well as the priest serving Alduin) of the priests and he was chosen to wear the mask as he was strongest of the priests. So when he defeated Miraak he was appointed ruler of Solstheim and probably maintained leadership of dragon cult. Nahkrin probably took over his servitude to Alduin as we know and it is confirmed Nahkrin is the priest serving Alduin. So if Vahlok wasn't the leader of the cult and Nahkrin was back then, then I probably assume they chose on power( even though I would think leadership is associated with the strongest). Some say Miraak was the leader of the cult before he turned which made Vahlok leader. But to come to my conclusion I agree with you on the mask and I believe the mask of Konahkrik was a mask made in that krisis time and the title was given to the strongest priest to lead the cult and defeat Miraak. It would make sense cuz Miraak had the other 3 priests in Solstheim to fight with him which probably made the creation of the mask( cause if those 3 didn't support Miraak then how is he stronger than 11 dragon priests?)

It was the first mainstream viewing of the full capabilities of an open world RPG, with seemingly endless boundaries in character development and world interactions. I remember having classes that could run across the map in a minute. Could jump into the clouds, so high i couldnt see the ground, and levitate across the map even faster than that. I remember making elaborate pillow forts with the old stacking mechanic when you drop items, using every single pillow in the game. That game defined what would become the modern RPG, the one by which all future games should be measured against.

      With the mod, each dragon priest drops their robes upon death, which must be purified by lifting their curses with scrolls of abjuration, before you can wear them. Each set is enchanted with unique effects like the corresponding mask and are well designed.
      In term of RP reasons to get the masks, I like a power and knowledge hungry Hermaeus Mora worshiping mage/scholar, out to collect the greatest artefacts to bend the world around them. There's a mod that does exactly that:
      It's called "The New Dragon Cult", and adds neo-dragon cultists to most of the dragon burial mounds throughout Skyrim. It's not much; no quests, or unique dialogue or anything, but it's one of those things that adds some genuine weight to the Dragon Crisis beyond a few random dragon attacks.

Remember, at the first fight with Alduin, he actually said that we could've joined him, just imagine how cool it could be, restoring that cult, having new quest that actually involved some dragon priest or even becoming one, rebuilding there cities or even building a new one, having your own tomb, etc. Honnestly it could've be something really cool because the actual main quest is cool but boring at the same time, it isn't really long and the final fight is depressing, you are supposed to kill the most powerful dragon but it actually feels like killing a regular dragon with one additional power of his and not having a good reward after that

Plus his name translated to "horrific air" which is something a pirate would have to worry about. It could also be a sort of nickname as a pirate with a notably fast ship.

    I have this whole theory where the named Dragon Priests in Skyrim Vanilla are the highest-ranking members of the cult, forming a governing body called the High Dragon Council. The DP's in the Dragonborn DLC on Solstheim are Legendary Dragons, a rank just below the High Dragons (including Miraak). All the other priests in the game, the ones without names, are mid to low-tier members, ranked as Revered, Elder or Younger Dragons.
    I also think that, much like the Sith, once you joined the Dragon Cult, you took on a new name, a name from the dragon language.

  • @settratheimperishable7800

    I personally believe that Volsung was a seafaring trader with water breathing, increased carry weight, and speech on his mask it makes sense. He had to have been very rich and influential to get the attention of the dragon cult.

    I appreciate how you worked the ESO priests in here. I started playing it a couple months ago and was wondering how they fit in. Dragon priests are perhaps my favorite end-game content in skyrim. I remember encountering my first one in the college of winterhold questline and wondering "what is that thing?", but figuring it was just a unique boss. Then I started to stumble on others, wondering what the connection was, before finding the wooden mask. And man, was I excited when I discovered that it was a treasure-hunt to find them all. These bosses are mysterious, terrifying, revealing to someone like me slowly unraveling the lore during their first few playthroughs, and I love them because of it. I highly recommend getting a housing mod that gives you a special place to display the masks, so you can better keep track of the collection and have easy access to them without them taking up inventory weight.

    Forgive me if this has come up before, but there may be another reason for the nine unique Dragon Priests. Supposedly, the development of Skyrim was heavily influenced by the Lord of the Rings movies, and from said franchise and the stories it was built from, there is a possible source. The Nazgul, also known as the Ringwraiths, Ring-wraiths, Black Riders, Dark Riders, the Nine Riders, or simply the Nine were once nine men, "great kings of men" who were tempted with power by Sauron. They became undead servants, skilled in sorcery and weaponry to become his most feared warriors. Now in Skyrim, we have the nine Dragon Priests, who ruled over the various parts of Skyrim, gaining much knowledge and power from the dragons, but at the cost of becoming undead. Coincidence? Just thought I would bring it up, sorry if someone has covered it before, but if not, tell me what you think.
