be careful you don't leave the autosol tube in the bathroom , could lead to some confusion

Thanks for the info, on american sites they use a similar product simicrome but they say it has to turn yellow or yellowish, also some say baking sod# works too. Why are these people so insistent that it must turn yellow ? Surely if it produces a different colour it is also positive. Can you elaborate on this a bit more please.

Can it be any metal cleaner, or it there something special in the Autosol?

Everything I've read says that polish totally ruins Bakelite and all other early, valuable plastics.

Thank you for your comment. I don’t polish the piece with it just test a very small area. But I have never even so much as seen a residue mark let alone damage in twenty plus years

I live in the US have never heard of the Polish he's using but here in the US simichrome polish is very popular for testing Bakelite it turns a nicotine yellow if positive for Bakelite. I have never had any issues with it damaging any vintage Plastics but if you would leave it on there for a long period of time I think any polish would damage it because they are corrosive. So after testing you definitely want to make sure to wash off all the Polish.

@@skylarmickel this makes me think of an internet search for how to take care of a new tattoo. You'll get tons of results telling you to use neosporin. And that's the worst thing you can do. If you like it, keep on using it. But I won't be buying any.
