You got it right with the formal and informal in Korean. Actually Korean is considered to be the #1 language that uses hierarchy in speech (followed closely by Japanese).
There are 7 official formality levels and they change everything from vocabulary to word endings and even how you say certain things.

Wow 7! I thought it was three. I know there is informal which is primarily used between peers of the same age, then there’s a more formal exchange where the words/ sentences end with ‘yo’. And then I’ve realised there’s a really formal way of speech for example if you’re addressing a Presidential of a company where the words end with inmida (I think…🤔). Did I get any right? 😅
