I'd love to have one of those lights ! I'd use that tubing bender and make a nice goose neck conduit bend and mount it up to my shop . I could imagine it mounted right over the gable end of the shop and a nice vintage sign below it
Super nice find, keep it in the shop where you can enjoy it more and it's safe! I've got several of these antique green shop lamps and shades but have never seen the glass "explosion proof" one like you have. Super cool, I'd have bought em in a heartbeat.
Awesome find! I think the reason they are going up in value so much is because Mike and Frank on American Pickers scoop them up any time they find them. A show that's seen world wide is bound to drive prices up.
In the picture it appears that your fixture has a adapter in it to use the std. small size bulbs. If you take the adapter out you can also use the larger style bulbs. Great find. My friend has a shade that looks like a daisy in bloom.
Excellent finds there RK. I found 6 of those lights a few years ago, but I only got the green shade part. My goal is to someday build a home shop and employ them in the interior. Since I don't have the sockets or the glass globes, I was just going to use standard lamp components to rig them up. Your's looks great where you installed it. It's rare in today's digital world to find both form and function in a singular component,,, this one is definitely a classic.
What a great score. If I was feeling brave I know of a abandoned cement factory that closed in the 60's that has lights like this. Only need some tools and a truck to haul em out of there. lol
Prob not. The place is well out in the country and has sat empty since the plant closed back then. We visited a few years ago. Video somewhere on my channel
Great find! Cleaned up really nice as well, now you just have to get to that lovely project you got there hiding under all the boxes and taking up the other half of the garage lol
Great find, Roadking. It reminds me of the light fixtures I used to see at Texaco Stations when I was in High School (a long time ago.) Part of me wants to see it outside and proud, but it's a museum piece these days and might be better off under glass, lock and key. :>)
Intrinsically safe. Hard to believe the globe survived as it hangs lower than the fixture. Beautiful clean up on that. Jim from not2fast4u2c is keeping abreast of this issue. A sore shoulder and a fixed light. Those dissimilar metals sure grow together eh!!
NICE FIND!..If I were you I would use a standard sized 110 LED bulb. I've replaced all my outdoor lights with LEDs, They cost about 50 cents a year to burn.
I hung plenty of those light fixtures in my 40 year career as an electrician. brings back pleasant memories. mogul sockets were generally used for 250v lamps. would be unusual to use for 125v but sometimes were used for 125v. mogul sockets aided greatly to dissipate the high heat index. the "swooping" mount that some commenters mentioned was called a "Sheppard's staff" in my locality. I bent plenty in my early career. takes a knack and just two cuss words to bend one staff...lol. done right looks really sharp. crouse hinds was "Cadillac" equipment. their whole product line was top notch. that black nipple you said can be had at home depot? nay nay brother. what you have there is american made black iron non existant today. little do you know that nipple is as important as the fixture. good find. personally, it would go on my shed. that's what they were built for.
Thanks for the info!! I used the black pipe that came with it!! I plumbed my garage for the compressor with Home Depot black pipe and I really caught hell threading the shit!! We even had the real ridgid threading set up and it just tore that crap up!!☺
I realize this is an old thread but I picked up a vintage white enamel light similar to this one. I cannot figure out how to take it apart? Can I ask you how? 😊
That's always a plus if you can safely fart through it lol. Interesting light fixture. Looks cool. Yeah, keep that light inside for something, it's too nice now.
Definitely a man cave light, I'd put. 15-20 watt LED bulb in it for when you need a bright light on an area. Me, without a man cave at present, I'd put it in the bathroom. :)
That is very nice, good work cleaning it. the pic at the end, the only this that would make it better is a cool Hood one her. lol Cheers my friend. The Dizz.
What you have is a Imperial Eastman tubing bender, it is the gold standard in benders and they are very expensive new, I ran a industrial hose and fab shop and used them for years
Not explosion proof, just vapor and moisture resistant. Crouse Hinds makes heavy duty shit. The light output is exceptional due to shade design. Great deal dude, you’ll enjoy that fixture. Be happy. I don’t have the time to explain how I know but , I know.
You know,.I could feel my should too, when you told us how you took that globe out,.....I laughed when you said "That's O.K. ". I don't think I would put that classic light fixture out doors, unless, you could build a roof over it, but I think I'd put a god powerful L.E.D. bulb in that socket, so you cold have it on a long time, and it would only add pennies to your power bill then. Good stuff, for sure.
in my apprentice ship days, I did a lot of cutting and threading black iron. miserable stuff to work. but American black iron is not to be anymore. it did make fantastic conduit however. take precautions working with that glass globe. about as rare as chicken lips. btw, that is not an explosion proof fixture.
Please keep inside You'll soon find a special spot Lot of the tops where aluminum on the early ones You could get a Edison light for it to increase the "cool" nees of it
Fantastic looking Crouse Hinds explosion proof light you have there! Love those old lights! Great score! 🙂🙂
I'd love to have one of those lights !
I'd use that tubing bender and make a nice goose neck conduit bend and mount it up to my shop .
I could imagine it mounted right over the gable end of the shop and a nice vintage sign below it
Yeah Buddy!! The Goose neck looks as good as the light eh!!☺
You got a great deal on that explosion-proof light, and it looks really good after you worked on it. Glad it is in your shop! Have a good weekend!
Looks fantastic what a great deal
Super nice find, keep it in the shop where you can enjoy it more and it's safe! I've got several of these antique green shop lamps and shades but have never seen the glass "explosion proof" one like you have. Super cool, I'd have bought em in a heartbeat.
Cool light fixture. I always look for that style with the swooping wall mount to hang on my building.
Yeah that's how I was gonna mount it if I put it on the shed, The swooping arm looks just as cool as the light!!☺
Great finds and nice to learn. thanks tom
Some cool finds. I really like those old industrial lights.
Yeah I'm really sorry I didn't pick up another one, I forgot all about it when I went back the next day!!☺
That's the new light for the poker room! :D
Looks great, works great!
Thanx EJ!
Thanks Capt!!☺
There ya go RK just like that picture with the dogs. Or was that pool? You get the idea.

Thanks Buddy!! I can't pass up a good deal!!☺
Ya Buddyyyyyyyyy !!!!! awesome score Cheers 🍻
Thanks Bud!!☺
Great find RK,,,, I"d keep it indoors to. Mother Nature likes to bust cool stuff.
Thanks Carl!! Yeah I'd hate to see something happen to it!!☺
Awesome find! I think the reason they are going up in value so much is because Mike and Frank on American Pickers scoop them up any time they find them. A show that's seen world wide is bound to drive prices up.
Thanks Bud!!☺
Sweet looking light for sure. I have a couple of repops similar to that in my kitchen.
That sounds cool!! The Ol' Lady would have a fit if I hung it in her kitchen!!☺
Looks mighty good!
Thanks Bud!!☺
highlights the coupe just right. I say keep it there. Cheers buddy! great find!
Thanks Bud!!☺

Thanks alot Bud!!☺
Buys outdoor light cleans it up to good still needs an outdoor light lol love it
I didn't have the heart to stick it out under a bunch of ratty old trees!!☺
805ROADKING I truly understand
While in the USAF they used these light fixtures in the hangers. I had half a dozen but gave them away years ago.
What a great score. If I was feeling brave I know of a abandoned cement factory that closed in the 60's that has lights like this. Only need some tools and a truck to haul em out of there. lol
Thanks Mike!! It's a shame they will probably be scraped!!☺
Prob not. The place is well out in the country and has sat empty since the plant closed back then. We visited a few years ago. Video somewhere on my channel
Nice find and nice job!
Thanks Bud!!☺
Great find! Cleaned up really nice as well, now you just have to get to that lovely project you got there hiding under all the boxes and taking up the other half of the garage lol
Thanks Bud!! If I finished that car I wouldn't have any place to work!!☺
Fair enough, one of those "one of these days" projects eh?
Good decision...it looks great inside, and as you said, you'll see it every day! :) Jack
Yeah that's a cool piece of history, I don't want to be the one to destroy it!!☺
Great find, Roadking. It reminds me of the light fixtures I used to see at Texaco Stations when I was in High School (a long time ago.) Part of me wants to see it outside and proud, but it's a museum piece these days and might be better off under glass, lock and key. :>)
Yeah I remember all the Stations that had them lights and we never thought anything about them!!☺
We got about 8 of those old ignition prevention lamps from my moms work they are pretty nice for barns
Thanks Bruce!! Yeah they must have been hung well out of the way to have lasted this long!! Sounds like Jim is a Boob Man eh!!☺
keep it in the garage, cool find
Yeah I'm gonna keep my eye open for some rougher and cheaper shit to hang on the shed!!☺
Sorry about the shoulder I know your pain I am going to have a new one put in next month. That is a great find on the light.
Thanks Bud!!☺
NICE FIND!..If I were you I would use a standard sized 110 LED bulb. I've replaced all my outdoor lights with LEDs, They cost about 50 cents a year to burn.
In the garage RK for sure.
Yeah Buddy!! I'll find a rougher and cheaper one for the shed!!☺

Thanks for watchin' Bud!!☺

We're gonna wait till we paint the whole car, I'm good but I could never match that Red close enough to look good!!☺
lol That's a good plan. You don'y want to be off on the color it will stick out. Thank you for the Great video's brother, Cheers The Dizz/
What you have is a Imperial Eastman tubing bender, it is the gold standard in benders and they are very expensive new, I ran a industrial hose and fab shop and used them for years
I don't bend much 1/2 pipe but it was too nice to pass up for $5!!☺
it's for tubing , not pipe
nice light , looks good where it is
Thanks Bud!!☺
Time to put that up on E-Bay :)))
So glad you mentioned the masonite seat you can fart thru before I did.
That's one of the reasons I bought it!!☺
Hay RK, If you pull that pin on your vise up and out, you will find that the back jaw of the vise can be moved to hold tapered objects.
Thanks for the info!! I never would have guessed that!!☺
👍
awesome that a 250$ plus light
Not explosion proof, just vapor and moisture resistant. Crouse Hinds makes heavy duty shit. The light output is exceptional due to shade design.

Yeah I dislocated my shoulder real bad about 30 years ago and it's never been the same!!☺
Very cool , Keith rucker put those in his new shop , They were not that nice though !
Looks like a different light after your cleanup. Looks out of place in the garage but I agree I wouldn't put it out on the shed either.
Thanks Bud!!☺
thumb up
I never noticed the aftermarket sunroof in the coupe
That top is pot medal, not paint. the heavy inside bulb is for explosion proofing in plants. Take it off and insert light bulb inside.
I’ve got about 25 of these. Most of them don’t have a scratch on them.
that's a imperial Eastman bender and we used those in the aircraft tubing industry, a lot better quality than ridgid
I don't bend much 1/2 pipe but it was too nice to pass up for $5!!☺
Crouse Hinds makes good stuff, I found a caged explosion proof light, I restored it but it's worth 200 to 300
That enameled metal as long as it isnt cracked will last forever that trailer chunnel yelowvand what red for a train line?
Hey @805roadking were was the show at ? Awesome videos man keep em up
Thanks Bud!! That show was in Washington's Crossing NJ in Sept.!!☺
Your welcome bud!! Nice I'll have to check it out sometime
She's a beauty. 💡

You'll soon find a special spot
Lot of the tops where aluminum on the early ones
You could get a Edison light for it to increase the "cool" nees of it
That would look cool and plenty bright for what I'm using it for!!☺
Just found 14 benjamin green light housings in a building
Hi. Nice project! Is it from the prewar era?
Hey Terry!! I didn't see any Dates on it but it definitely looks like the 1930's style!!☺
@@805ROADKINGThank's for the answer. I like these two decades. (20 & 30). Awesome artifacts, great history! Greatings from Greece.
Keeping it in doors will prolong its life. Hopefully. Better to protect it.
Yeah I'll find something a little rougher to hang on the shed!!☺
The top is cast aluminum
if you could get the prices they are listing on eBay , I'd sell it and buy a cheap light for the shed,, but that's just me.
I'll probably give it to someone that has a good place to put it and find some rougher and cheaper ones for the shed!!☺
