- Instead of spending 5 to 10 dollars on a simple paracord fid (needle), I make my own for a couple bucks.
A quick stop at the hardware store, a 10" bastard file and a cordless drill are all you need. And for less than you spend for a cup of coffee on your way to work in the morning.

For those of you with a grandma that knits, if you can get a set of 6.0mm hollow aluminium knitting needles, just hack at 2 inches and use a finish nail or a toothpick to wedge the paracord in the end, you'll have to sand lightly with fine sandpaper.
Fantastic! I put this diy fid kit into my bushcraft handle. I also modified another tip with an eye and a sharper tip for sewing.
Very nice! Now you can make whoopie slings with those fids and cordage for your hammocks.
I’m planning on using my angle grinder for quicker easier tooling and I’ll use the flap disc afterwards for shaping the tip and fine sanding. Great idea 💡💪
This is brilliant sir
This my friends is a wonderful informative video. Thanks
Very Nice! Thanks for the tip and sharing your knowledge!!!
Thank you for your video I just finished making two fids and only spent $2.14 ... awesome
You my good man, are a genius. Thank you.
In 2020 paracord fids are so common, you can buy a Set for 10 bucks. Marlinspike includet. Stainless steel.
The Tips are was to pointy though.
Still a great Idea.
Great Video!
Geniaal!! Dankjewel.
I couldn't help but enjoy the irony when he informs us that, "...we should have a bastard file........"
Well, I've been told enough times, now, that I'm a total bastard, yet............. You might have already guessed, I do not have a bastard file among my worldly possessions......... I don't have a fid, either, which is just annoying, as opposed to being in any way ironic.........
I felt I should share this with y'all........ It might do you good to see what some people have to put up with + they still find the strength to carry on........
I happen to have one but it’s seen better days and I could probably use it but I’m using my angle grinder. No need for sarcasm you can buy a file at Home Depot 🤷♂️
Thank you
Do you know what size binding post to use for 1.75 (90lb) cord
Love it!
what about cutting of the round part first, and then do the rest?
or is it hollow all the way?
8/32 threads? So.. 1/4"?
8/32 is not a fraction, it's 8-32 (which is not a math function). It means a No. 8 machine with 32 threads per inch.
