  • In this episode I add a Faller car system to my layout. I build the roof way and lay the wires for the car and do my first test run.

    Thank you. Considering Faller or Magnorail currently, and this was very informative.

    Hi Mark, love it - it looks great and will make your town scene come alive. Hopefully you and the family didn't suffer too much with the recent storm over there... Great job on this! 👍

      Thanks Mike, it was an epic storm had some trees down in the garden but the house and more importantly the railway room is fine. 😅

    It's a great product. I've got the starter set. What i did was borrow mates router and with smallest bit i cut groove in bored. This way all you have to fill is the small grove then just paint your road. Hope this might help. Great layout and looking forward to next episode.

      Thanks Chris, I can’t decide if it will be easier to route out the groove and fill/paint or just put filler over all to create the road, especially as the access in some areas is difficult. I might have a little practice first. Thanks for watching Mark

      Thanks and yes it’s worth considering the starter pack is good value but extra vans and lorries are a bit expensive

    Mark Hi, Your layout is coming along nicely. It may be to late now, but I have been using the Faller car system for years, and I have learnt a few tricks along the way. On my last two layouts I have gone away from the wire, and now use magnetic tape, which I find more reliable. I have found that the easiest way to lay the track is to cut fine card in three strips, sticking this down with double sided tape, leaving a small gap between the three pieces for the wire or tape to fit in. It saves all the faffing, with filler, sanding etc, which is very messy. Over the top of of the card I stick grey paper cut to size. If you go back in my videos, yo will see the system working. You can weather the surface later. Hope this helps. Doug.

      Hi Doug, thanks for the advice I will take a look at you videos. It’s not too late yet as I am still waiting for the extra wire to arrive so haven’t progressed the installation yet. Many thanks Mark

    Hey Mark, this was fascinating, I've always wondered how these systems work and seeing you put it all together was really interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed this. How much does a system like this cost roughly? Great video again. Hylt

      Thanks Hylt, the starter pack is about £100 but the extra vehicles like the fire engine are between £150-200 so not cheap but what is when it comes to model railways!!

    Faller makes a groove cutter for laying the wire in the wood. I have one and it works great. Do you plan on adding any of the electronics with your car system? I have the digital system I'm using for a large layout that I'm building and it really simplifies everything to stopping and starting the vehicles and distance control to traffic lights and traffic control. your setup is looking good so far.

      Hi, I was thinking of using a groove cutter with my Dremel but not sure I can get that under the boards at both ends. I like the idea of digital control but I am still getting my head around DCC so I am a like reluctant to over complicate the car system at this stage. Can this be retrofitted? Thanks for watching and Happy New Year. Mark

      you can add in the digital later you just don't need as many components as you do with the analog (i.e. road sensors, stop solenoids, and other control components. ) and faller has a digital conversion kit for the vehicles too.

    Why have you got those white things in your ears???

    • @chappelstation
      @chappelstation  Před 6 měsíci

      Hi, they are airpods, I use them as a microphone for recording my voice. I did try a cheap bluetooth microphone but it was rubbish and I already owned the airpods so it made sense to use them. The technology in them is far superior to any cheap mike, the only negative is it looks like I have cotton wool in my ears but I figure its better to have good sound than good looks!!! Thanks for watching
