Amazing system. Very impressive. Just curious, could you use electro- magnets instead on the permanent magnets so that the Faller cars can still be used on the layout?

Hi - someone else suggested this in video #72. Please see my reply there. Basically don’t think it would work - the car motion cars need lots of magnets - 3 just to turn off/on indicators and they need to be in certain order like south then north then south poles and other combinations for speed control etc.
Therefore I would need loads of electro magnets and they are bigger so don’t think there would be the space to have multiples next to each other under the road. Also they would all need to sense and go off for faller and on for car motion. And…. I don’t know how I could get sensors to differentiate between faller and car motion cars
Loads of potential challenges and issues on this solution.
Thanks but don’t see it working

Looks really good great fun ,regarding the bend perhaps you could try to set some of the bushes on the bend further back somehow so the truck can turn the bend more easily, perhaps you could sell the faller cars and reinvest in the other system ,I will look forward to how you get on with it ,good luck Ray.

No need - It's fixed - see my latest video #71 which will be released at 17:00 today (18 Dec 2023).

Hi, I too noticed that Faller vehicles have problems with the magnets inserted into the road surface for the carmotion functions.
instead I wanted to ask how did you manage to age the carmotion truck and the load of sand? Did you make a video tutorial for us maybe?

Hi - This is really simple to do. First, because the red truck is brand new and shiny, I sprayed it with a product called Dull coat, (which is like a varnish). This takes the gloss off the vehicle. Then let it dry which takes approx 5 mins. Then I used some weathering powder (Dark Umbra) - which is a brown rust colour and I dry bushed it onto the vehicle. Because the vehicle has the Dull coat spray on it, the powder sticks to it like a paint.
I then cut out a piece of hard foam to fit in the back of the truck and shaped it into a small mound. Then cover the foam with PVA glue (Use a lot of glue and completely cover it). Then spinkle sand onto the glue. You may need to do this a few times until the sand covers the foam and sticks to it. After the glue and sand has dried just put the foam (with sand over it) into the truck.
You need to watch Videos #71 and more importantly #72 where I now have 3 trucks.
For the Blue truck in video #72 I also used some white weathering powder to look like water streaks. I then put some tree foliage into the back and glued some netting over the top of the truck.
The other blue truck was the same as the red truck but I used woodland scenics dark earth colour instead of sand when covering a piece of hard foam.
If I ever get a 4th truck I would be happy to do a video, but the vehicles are very expensive - approx 200 euros each !!! and more in GBP because of imports and tax etc. :-( so I am not sure when I will buy a 4th.

@@LeisureWorldModelRailway a good job I would say, I don't know if I could also find those spray products here in Italy.
if you watch the video of the diesel locomotive on my channel, you will see my blue carmotion passing by with a load of wooden beams.
now I'm waiting for the second truck (red) which should arrive this week.
But did you have to dismantle the cab and trailer in order to paint/modify them? Isn't it risky?

NO NO NO - Do NOT dismantle the truck that is absolutely too risky. I cover the glass (- the windscreen & rear lights) with masking tape before I spray it with a product called: Testers Dullcote (Dull coat) - Look for it on Google or Amazon. It is a Matt varnish designed for modellers. Other Matt varnishes will probably do the same thing, Try it on a toy car first to check it works before spraying onto the truck.
It means the car no longer looks Gloss and new. Instead the truck has a Matt finish, so not shiny. Then the weathering powers stick to the matt varnish finish. You don't need a lot of weathering powder, just a little amount with a dry brush.
The load I put into the truck is created from a foam base, so I can remove the load and replace it with a different load whenever I want. I do not fix it into the truck.
I like your layout, your rail crossing barriers work better than mine - Mine are Faller, what make are yours ?
Also I see you have Faller cars working alongside the Viessmann - How are you doing that ? Is it because you don't use any magnets in the road for indicators, speed control etc ?
Lastly - I love your backdrop scenes - I was looking for a big backdrop for my layout but could not find one - where did you buy yours ?
      Thanks Rob.
      Rob.

@@LeisureWorldModelRailway I purchased the level crossing card from Gianni tartaruga🐢 he has his own fb page and the bars close thanks to a faller sensor which closes the bars when the first freight truck passes with a magnet inside. When it then passes over the second sensor it reopens them. on the road before the level crossing I inserted some magnets to slow down but they don't get along with faller vehicles because they stop! so I deleted some. I will be able to include them in the future if I ONLY circulate Viessmann vehicles, maybe even Carmotin cars would be nice. finally I purchased the background on Facebook. If I still find the link I'll pass it on to you.
