- No need to go to the mast to do the reefing. In this video you can see how to rig your boat so you can reef the sails from the cockpit. This is shown on a 1982 Nauticat 38, but you can do the same on any other boat.
What you need to do is to change to linger lines / ropes. Then you need to add a lot of blocks, and make the lines go to the cockpit / aft deck. There you need the locks / breaks and the winches.
Great information tks. I'm wondering if at another time you might show the actual raising, reefing on air. And do you secure reefed mainsail while sailing.
We have a plan to do a video showing how this works while sailing, so follow the channel and see what happens.
When we take two reefs we normally secure the sail.
@@Sailing-Maja Great 👍 can't wait
So effectively you have 6 lines going back aft. Two for each reef and 2 for full main. Is that right?
@@overlandingomar 5. One for main, and two for each reef. So with two reefs it makes up a total of 5 lines.
In the mizzen we have one reef, so there it is three lines.
@overlandingomar Well, you are actually right. There are 6 lines. I hardly use the last line, but its there. We also have the sail outhaul (streching the sail backwards / out) taken to the aft deck.
The kick is not taken backwards (yet).
