- Today Baron is headed to Eli's to get some new shoes! While we are there picking him up, we have a surprise from Eli's harness shop! Jim is cutting firewood on the farm to keep the outdoor furnace going for a while!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horse farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

Could there be any greater boon to the heavy-horseman than to live alongside an Amish community? No doubt a range of things become possible to the horseman that might not be possible - or at least much more difficult - where there are no Amish. Modern people simply don't understand just what an astounding miracle it is that these folks have hung-on doing things as they do embedded as they have been for the past hundred and change years in what amounts to an utterly opposed and even hostile model to their ways (the way the 99.9% of the rest of us live.) Not only a miracle, but a great gift and source of hope that they are still at it the way they do things, surrounded by all the doomed modern lunacy. Mostly overlooked and certainly uncelebrated. What i'd give to be able to just pop over from my farm to an Amish shop.
Watch the people who save the horses from the Amish... Its horrible to watch how the amish have treated the horses.... My Vet told me the Amish have the largest and the worst puppy mills in the USA..... No, don't preach about something you know NOTHING about...
The horses just gleam when Brenda is finished grooming them. You can tell they really enjoy the attention and human contact.
A hug on your horse is as good as a treat that will be returned many times over.
Loved, loved the video today!!!! Brenda, I can't wait to see the hollow log planters you fix!!!!!❤ I got so excited seeing that saddle at Eli's; thought Jim's going to start riding Baron!! Anyway, the new set of harnesses will be gorgeous on Duke and Earl!!!!!❤ Of all the years watching, today was the 1st time I've seen Lady offer to kick! She didn't like little Skippy sniffing her hind legs!😘 She's such a good girl. She just let him know to leave her feet along!!! I'd love to see Eli's icehouse! That's something I've never seen before!!!! Have a wonderful weekend!!!👋
It was just a matter of time before Jim popped for matching harness for those beautiful boys. Lol
Loved the cats at the beginning…cats can be so funny. Those harnesses are absolutely beautiful….wow, such wonderful craftsmanship. God bless and have a great one.
Give Them all a hug for me please.
haha that cat!!checking it all out.
I liked when Brenda said that she gives her horses a hug every day ☺ Congrats for the new harnesses, they have this brand-new look. Mine look so dirty, it's been lots of mud last two month. Wish you all the best, greetings to Eli -Chris
Greetings across the pond to you Chris!👋 Hope you have been well! (From Terri over in the mountains of Tennessee)
@@territn8871 Hi Terri, greetings to you!! 😊 I'm fine, thanks, my life got somewhat more busy with the new harnesses 😁
Nothing more relaxing then grooming a horse
Never stop asking questions, Brenda 👍🏽
couldn't help singing "Welcome to Mrs. Gordon's Neighborhood" as this one starts
Jim & Brenda great work on the video. 😊 HAPPY Saint Patrick Day ! 😊
I know I keep repeating myself, but Baron is truly, all horse. He looks like he could move mountains. And Brenda, you've got his coat just glistening. Thanks folks.
Great job brushing Brenda, I find it interesting that you don’t seem concerned about getting kicked when brushing their tails. Keep the wonderful videos coming. Have a great day folks.
The cats crack me up 🤣
LOL At 11:00 Lady gave skip a little warning. Don,t mess with me you young pup.
I can smell the inside of his harness/saddle shop. Wonderful smell. (to me)
Baron is truly handsome. Can’t wait to see Duke and Earl in their new harnesses. I’m imagining Ken, Duke and Earl pulling the harrow while Baron and Lady plowing with William and Jim on the reins. Mad respect for Amish families: hardworking, entrepreneurial, finding ways to support their families, and grow their businesses.
You made baron so shiny!!
When you were asking Jim questions, Brenda, and he said he was tired of answering them all, my first thought was, that must be a CRABapple tree he's talking about. :) Just kidding, Jim.
That's funny!😘
surprised that you are "tired of answering her questions" seemed perfectly normal to me
Just for all the non horse people, never stand directly behind a horse when brushing their tails 😊. Brenda knows the horses and they love her. But stand at the side where you can reach the tail, or stand extremely close to the rear end so if they do kick, it doesn't have the velocity of a full kick, still can hurt. I'm speaking from experience. God bless 😊
That saddle is a beautiful example of true craftmanship - please pass along our compliments to Eli. I really enjoyed seeing all of the different projects Eli and his family work on. The new harnesses will look great on the Suffolks.
I always love your video's Brenda! Always done very nice.
👍👍👍
Lady was not in the mood for Skippy shenanigans and just a warning little boy because Lady could have really kicked back further and got Skippy. Skippy is learning. Baron look so beautiful after brushing him and I bet once you were done with Ken he would glow too. God bless you Jim and Brenda..
Love the new harnesses! Can't wait to see them on the boys. Every one seems to love Baron, as do I. He's just such a beautiful horse. I think he knows that, and prances to show off. I could watch him all day. I'm hoping in the coming year the young boys will start looking more like Baron. And with the new harnesses, they’ll be such a handsome team
Your horses always look well groomed and healthy.
those hollow log has several other usages.
one is chimney fire / Swedish torches.
the second one is bitting bears, for hunter where it's legal.
Hollow basswood logs are popular in Wisconsin for bear bait.
Great to see duke and earl in their new harnesses and spring shoes. 😊
Nice little tack shop at Ely's. I love the smell of new leather. when I was a young lad (around 16-17 yrs old i worked in a Tannery (called Litchman's Tannery) in Pittsfield Ma. doing varous jobs. Tanning, staking, pasting, buffing, hanging, all sorts of jobs for summer season. I have to this day two belts that the factory's owner Jules made for me, he was a Leather technician/craftsman. Thanks for sharing all. again a great video. ECF
We were breaking a team of colts once. The right hand horse threw his head up. When his head came down his line snap became unsnapped. The same kind of snap you don't like. Fortunately my uncle was able to quickly resnap the line. Could have been a disaster.
Watching the harness shop, I was smelling the harness shop with the new leather. We have Amish nearby too.
Yes, experience..once in Alaska I was harnessed up getting ready to ascend a tree and I heard "click"! Looked down my wire gate caribeaner had come undone. As you stated, a change in direction or slack will cause this problem or disconnect, life and death! I since have always used self locking safety climbing beaners.. the spring gate are good for "rigging equipment" no life support. (Though some pro climbers still use them, makes me nervous or concerned, I don't trust them.)
Oh,Baron , is stunning,,super healthy,,I luv watching all your horses
Any video with Baron is a good video
WOW… Eli is an incredible artist! His work is AMAZING!!!
When I watch horse videos I almost always find things that I don’t like about the way people treat their horses. Not so with Jim and Brenda’s horses! Nice to hear the spring birds singing in the background. I sure wish I had a neighbour like Eli!
the people on Homestead horsemanship are good to their horses also..... They just got a couple of Clydesdales... wonderful story about Oliver...
Great job of grooming Brenda he looks handsome!
Looks like Lady was about to teach Skippy a lesson
Yea, she was thinking about it for sure LOL
Ewe, yes! , that was close!, sure glad Lady held back, she might not once her colt comes in June, she will pull the trigger a little easier then. Stay clear Skip! We need ya buddy.
Skip is part blue heeler, that is, a heeling Australian cattle dog, bred to heel (nip) cattle to shift them, rush in, nip then duck the kick. Seems to have escaped many near misses and being permitted to learn the hard way. Very canny dogs, heelers.
Yes, we had one on the outback family sheep station too... had 15 kelpie working dogs... but the blue heeler was great on the wild cattle at Girlie Bore (windmill)...
He was ok with sheep... they're faster in the kick!
Interesting shoe and harness maintenance, nice to see Eli s shop etc Jim/ Brenda have a great day 👋👀
Brenda’s mothering instincts kick in even with the horses.
Apple wood - I can remember as a kid Mom and Dad would be so excited about the apple wood they would get from the old apple trees in the backyard. Dad would barbeque his fryer chicken over an apple wood fire. So good, the smell and the taste. Barons sure likes to tap dance in his new shoes.
Skippy like plans with the cats!
I like your horses 🐎 a lot. Good job with them 🐎🐎
Beautiful Belgians💖💓
oh my gosh........I would love to sit and watch Eli work his art......tell him an ol south alabama lady said ---SALUTE.
The cat behind Brenda and Baron was hilarious!
This man is truly an artist with all the leather products he makes that saddle is awesome wish I lived closer I would definitely order one
Love your property and the Horse.
Eli’s shop the best👍
Applewood is great for smoking meat too! Gives a good flavor. So does Cherry.
Yes!, and for fish, I prefer alderwood
You'll be sure to need those snow pads if you take them off.
Just like on a car take the snow tires off and get dumped on w a record snowfall. Lol
lady getting a little mad at skippy in this one, nice set of harnesses for Duke and Earl
At 17:40 jim is the world record for cutting fire wood
Great video 👍👍😊
Thank you for another good video. Barton really looks nice.
For sure, he's such a handsome animal!
One thing Grandpa was always adamant about, 'the horses come first.' In my part of the world we could be using them to log forests killed by pine beetle. Yet nothing happens. I call it a fear of hard work.
Lots of pine were killed from pine beetles here in northeast Tennessee too.
All that dead wood is a fire hazard you wouldn`t believe.@@territn8871
What a beautiful saddle! Thanks for another interesting video ❤
Baron need to be treated with Royalty! I love that horse, especially when he's working and gets that trot & high stepping going! The Harnesses' are lovely, can't wait to see them on Duke & Earl! BUT they are going to have to earn them!!
= Gaëtan (Quebec city)
... Cool, at 6:05 Brenda's shadow on the trailer. Nice ...One day, you might go the Oscars Brenda. But, may we think that you share that kind of humbleness of the amish. A healty humleness ...
So beautiful
The SADDLE!!!😮 Incredible!
I was hoping the surprise was the saddle… for Baron!!! ❤
Is that a draft saddle? Looks awfully big!
You both are hard workers but that is the farm life. It keeps your muscles strong. I'm new to the area, Nebraska. And for once I live in the city.
Got my mares new shoes on yesterday the wife just told me she wants to breed the two mares si I guess I will be pulling off the Hinds lol o will a happy wife happy life
Brenda, good job on the grooming. Baron looks gorgeous! Eli’s saddle and harnesses are top quality. He does beautiful work.
The more you share with us your relationships with the Amish just increases my curiosity. I would love it if you would share more details of how you live among the Amish.
Oh ho!! Lady sure put Skippy in his place!! I know the dogs learn, but I'd sure hate to see him get hurt! 😮 Wow! That will make a unique planter!! A perk of the job! Lol!! That's a beautiful harness! I can almost smell the new leather!! 😊 Of course this was a good video!! 💕
🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣Skippy's messing with the wrong horse.
Must be the great grooming Brenda is so good at they look so SHEAN all winter long! It looks like they didn’t even grew winter coats! Some people still might have an old fashion round buck saw blade on front of a fly wheel tractor! Back in my younger days, it sure didn’t take long to cut up a pile of logs for fire wood when using it! The new harness is going to look pretty spiffy on the young boys! Some pretty fancy tack work by Elie🙌🏼👌🏼🤠🇨🇦
Wow beautiful saddle yoi yoi yoi.
William is not only a good man with horses, sawmilling and carpentry, he is a great camera operator too!
I often wondered why you don't pick up the big rocks around the horse yard .
Yes on Ice house. I know nothing about draft horses but that is a beautiful horse!
Thank you Jim and Brenda
.That is such beautyful harness. Ely is an artist. Baron was dancing like Fred Astaire on those shoes. I repaired my picnic table today. Spring wahoo.😂❤❤.
Brenda Hi , ... 9:25 you say ," Say hello skip . " . I'm sure a lot viewers said HI Skippy ;) .Good dog .
Elie has an impressive shop!
Skippy is growing fast and it seems like he's gonna get kicked one of the days
For a second i thought you were getting them a saddle. Beautiful harnesses. Can't wait to see them on the boys.
I just love barons little strut thinking I look good
I imagine Lady will have even less patience for puppy antics when she has a new baby by her side - Better learn to give her a wide berth Skippy or you just might get launched! Beautiful new harnesses - D&E will sure look sharp in them!
Thanks for another excellent video 😊
Beautiful harnesss
It's hard to describe how I feel about your videos. They bring me peace. I fell like I 'm right there with you.what a pleasant place you have. When Lady kicked at Skippy it looked to me like she really tempered her thrust. If you can call a kick mild I think that would have been one. 😊. Like how Jim is saving his back by having those logs higher. And I also am looking forward to seeing that apple-tree planter ful of flowers or vegetables. Thank you for the effort you put into these for us.❤
The hollow log would make a fabulous natural beehive
That’s what I thought he was going to find in there!
Hi Brenda & Jim......Brenda, you do such a good job grooming the horses and it really shows because they shine like a brand new copper penny! I also like that you give them each a HUG......they need & like hugs just like people! And Jim, you amaze me with how hard you work! God bless....
Baron is sporting his new bling bling. Eli does excellent work. Do you use his saddles for riding your horses?
Lady being pregnant wasn’t having it with Skippy😂 Those hollow logs will be great for flowers Brenda 💐 That’s a great idea and look for to seeing your lovely garden once again❤
WOW....this was a very neat video........lov from south alabama. [Wild horses don't have blankets]
Interesting going on's at Eli's. Intresting to see ice house sometime if possible
Apple 🍎 firewood burn hot 🥵 great for BBQ with a organic prime ribs steak 🥩 Jim and Brenda. 😊
The grey kitty photo bomb! That was awesome hahaha!
I was hoping that was a new saddle for Baron! I would love to see him under saddle some day.
My thoughts exactly! Thought for sure Jim's going to start riding Baron!!!!! Gosh, he is such a magnificent horse, and all saddled up would have looks to die for!!!!!! In my younger riding days, I would have loved riding Baron!!!🏇
For sure, Baron is a handsome animal and the way he gets into his harness ya can tell he's got heart! I would bet he would make an impressive riding horse also.
Brenda you are an exceptional groom. What you do must make a difference for Eli. Clean legs are healthy legs.
That new harness really looks nice. Thank you for sharing.🐴
I'm from Calgary Alberta. Canada loves. You are sharing your videos. Thank you and respect you given the Amish
Hollow logs also can be used to make birdhouses.
I like how you think 🤔 I'd snag the hollow log, too, for a planter.
Yeah I was wondering how often Jim has to sharpen the saw!
Brenda some people will cut those logs on the trailer. And some cut on the ground too. Some have a buzz saw to cut logs into shorter pieces.
Wow. Amazing saddle @24:25
Thanks for sharing . God bless.
